  • I loooove that you didn't go to the usual posh places and instead went for the very basic and the most relatable to the Filipino masses. This is why I have always followed you. OMG you have out done yourself, Tinaaaaa. I remember the first video I saw of you was you cooking with your mom, some Filipino dish. Started following you then, you were still single and all hahaha then you moved to your own place then Kevin then Mija and the rest is history! Here you are now in our country. Never thought this day would come! Welcome and mabuhay 😁🖤 May I add I follow Jessica too and I was thrilled when I saw you two together 🙌🏻

    • uh isnt it the other way around? Philippines isn't really known for "posh" places. It's actually known for its shanty towns and rubbish streets. Would have been better if she went to the nicer cities to promote the other side of the philippines that many people doesn't really see that often.

    • @@brotato654 "it's usually known for its shanty towns and rubbish streets"... Maybe it's just you that thought of the Philippines that way. Most folks either know nothing about the Philippines or know it as having beautiful beaches and super friendly people. Also, the caption clearly says "Filipino street food". Why the f would she go to fancy places when street food is right there with the masses. There are plenty of vloggers that already go to posh areas showing fancier Filipino food. This vlog ain't it.

I don’t comment a lot but I felt the passion in our food and culture in this video and I wanted to say that you did amazing. I loved how you kept saying po and kain tayo in all the places you visit and it’s these small things that make you feel that someone really is passionate about learning a country’s culture. GREAT JOB!

She also explains the taste/compares it to something more known to most people; i appreciate that she educates her viewers about techniques used in cooking a certain dish, history of the dish as well as ingredients. Im a Filipino and grew up in the Philippines, but she’s tried more food and restaurants in manila more than i have. Haha. Thank you for trying Pinoy food.

  • Holy crap so given how it ended there's going to be more filipino content? Woohoo! Firstly, as a Filipino-American I'm the type who has only ventured into the malls to get food and rarely at the streets so the fact that you made a whole vid about Filipino street food really opened my eyes and now I genuinely would love to try all the spots you visited. Gotta say love the chemistry between you and Abi because Abi has that similar insight and knowledge about food like you. Of course I'm absolutely impressed with the great lengths you went to to make this such a rich and varied food journey (as you always do). The sense of respect for the culture was very evident and I love that about you. Much gratitude for making this content for the Filipino community and for those who have never experienced Filipino food. Lastly, those dessert drinks from Chunook's Kitchen had me salivating. I so want to try all of them. Looking forward to more Filipino content.

  • I remember watching the first adobo short, and just like any Filipino I was thrilled at being validated because not only is the dish our own, I really love to eat it. Over time the channel became less about cooking, but more about life around food... and I used to be young too so I felt real feelings as Tina go through young adulthood. I felt uncomfortable being let in her conflicts with her parents, and into her romance. But I was rewarded by being let into the business experiment of such a unique and ambitious restaurant. She and Kevin started Mija Seoul while I was starting my own business. The struggles they went through were too real, but like parasocial ghoul I felt like we were all in parallel foxholes, as if I had fraternity with them. I enjoyed the whole day of eating videos, around Korea and the world. What sets her apart from a lot of food creators when it comes to the actual food content is the entry level and casual food science that comes with the food description. It's not too indulgent (not that I dislike Alton-brown level food nerdiness) and just in keeping with the casualness but intentionality of the eating. It works. About the Filipino food content: (I'm so happy you brought your folks! I hope they enhoyed themselves too) There's nothing shanghainese about our lumpia I think. Abby should have educated you. I haven't been to Binondo in more than a year, so that Binondo Bites was wild to find out about. I have very few good experience eating adobo from restaurants or even carinderias, I'm sure they're good, but they're not grandma's. Like many, I prefere adobo with soy sauce, but the soy-free ones in Visayas, and the one cooked in coconut milk from Bicol are wonderful. The sisig you got from the Tutuban night market is the Manila style mall sisig that more discerning diners have begun to dislike. The one in Mang Tootz looks so much better. All purpose dipping sauce: 1 part soy sauce, 2 parts vinegar, 2 squeezed calamansi, siling labuyo (chillies, as many as you want) The food you had at the Palutuan is fire. It must be said that you really chose the realest parts of Manila to eat from. Can't wait for the Cebu leg of your trip.

Snow Sheen Resto (Bird's Nest Soup, Buttered Chicken with the orange sauce, Pancit Guisado). This is a very old restaurant, a bit hard to go to but every Cebuano at heart loves this place. 9. Pochero 10. Fried Bakasi 11. My husband is Danish too, He’s a huge fan of sinigang but the Filipino food he doesn’t like are Balut and Bagoong and the cartilage inside the pork sisig 😅😂

You engage all senses while eating. And that makes us all crave for the food. I love the collaborations you did in this video. Keep it up. Love from 🇵🇭

  • Pro tip from a Filipino: especially with fried and grilled foods but pretty much valid with anything is asking for some vinegar (spiced or not) and some chilis! Mix with optional soy. The acidity and sourness cuts all the greasy or oily flavors and adds another umami flavor component. Highly recommend! Side note I’m surprised it’s your first time in the ph for some reason lol

Thanks for your content and for actually getting into the true local ways of eating as a Filipino. I can see a lot of research and respect went along with this. Thanks for inspiring me to pursue as well that even being in the food science/technology field doesn’t mean you’re gonna be stuck in a lab or corporate factory but you can go to other places that food truly reaches out into (small businesses, cafe, R&D, street food, etc.) I wish you tried suman or kakanin, our sticky sweet rice desserts huhu!
