The Rise, Fall and Resurgence of Joe Flacco

In football, there is the constant question of whether or not a player is elite. Are they truly good or a product of what is around them and there may not be a single player who has represented that debate more than Joe Flacco. It’s the old age question from his time playing for the Ravens. Is Joe Flacco elite? It didn’t help that he was stuck in the same era as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Yet, in one postseason, not one did Joe Flacco have arguably have the greatest run in playoff history, but he knocked off Brady and Manning before winning Super Bowl MVP after beating a dominant 49ers defense. Flacco was clutch and was no doubt elite during that one month in 2013, but was he an elite quarterback? He earned a big contract after that ring and there were high hopes for his future in the league. Instead, he slowly sunk into irrelevancy. Flacco became a backup and was mostly forgotten about, but not completely. At age 38 after being a free agent, Flacco got off his couch and led the Browns to the playoffs. He wasn’t supposed to be good after years on the bench not playing, but he was. He was still that same guy that wasn’t a highly sought after high school recruit, who had to transfer to get play time and eventually shocked everyone when he won he won a ring in Baltimore. You’ve never been able to count out Joe Flacco and whether or not he’s elite, his legacy will live forever.

  • Joe represents the supreme confidence of already being Great and wanting to provide that to others on his team. This is the 'zoned calm' that you would want in any battlefield commander, Team Leader, hunt co-ordinator, campaign Director...He's done it for himself, and now it's about those around him.

  • You don’t see these QB resurgences very often. Usually when the magic drops off it keeps dropping. Joe has somehow found some magic. Now obviously he’s helped out by a really solid defense but he’s done incredibly well for what he’s been asked to do. I don’t think he’s a long term solution given his age but what a way to end a career if he and the Browns could pull off a superbowl appearance.

  • It would be nice if the Ravens if they let him come back for a game and retire a Raven. Both of my colleges had starting QBs in the NFL this year WVU with Geno Smith and University of Delaware with Joe Flacco. I was actually in a class with Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, and Steadman Bailey when I went to WVU. Although he is not from Delaware it is still cool he played for UD.

    @YoSweet@YoSweet3 ай бұрын
  • My Vikings should have picked him up instead of Josh Dobbs. KOC tailored his offense to Cousins and wanted all the backups to do what Kirk did. Flacco is an aged professional who could have put that playbook to use and with weapons like JJ, Addison, and Hockenson. We might not have fallen on our face right at the end of the season. But go Cleveland y'all deserve something good

  • The rise of Joe flacco shows how the media has so much influence over everyday America. They hyped this man up like he was the next coming of Joe Montana and he only beat one playoff team in this rapid rise. That was the Texans without CJ Stroud and when they played them in the playoffs and the Texans were at full strength Joe showed who he was. Just look at his stats, yes he put up a lot of gaudy numbers but he also threw eight interceptions in five games. That came back to bite them in the playoffs when he threw two more interceptions both of which were returned for touchdowns.
