So this piece of English Oak has been outside for a while now... I'm sure you could tell. I was never 100% sure of what I wanted to do with it, but the idea came to mind when I started turning. I didn't want to waste the angled part at the top so decided to make it a feature.
The bread bin has been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with Danish oil and Wood wax.
The main body is English oak, the lid is Sapele, and the handle is African blackwood.
Let me know what you think!

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. I am still relatively new to woodturning and some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest. When using any tools or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines.
Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practise. The gloves I wear are tight fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.
Fantastic!
Turning of any shape of wood has its tenuous moments. The legs I've turned were all square or rectangular. That being said, the larger the cube/square the more alert you need to be. Just a bit of tension release on either of the centers can be shaky. I stand on pins and needles until a rounder shape appears. Anyway, very nice. I enjoy watching him work and picking up pointers. He seems to be very safety conscious.
Beautifully done, you're an artist! Absolutely gorgeous! First time viewer, guarantee I'll watch more! Thank you for the entertainment!😊

lovely!
Thank you! Do you think it looks a bit like a pumpkin? 😂👍
Very nice. I love work with a character. For some reason this makes me think of Las Vegas, with an ice bicket from the Pink Flamingo, and Frank Sinatra performing. I must be old school......
Sssssssoooooo BEAUTIFUL!!! TYFS
Absolutely nuts to start that turn without cutting those corners off first.
❤What a lovely bowl and lid! A little different ❤

This was a really nice looking, and very well done piece. I have to admit I am 71 and haven't gotten used to some of the non-symmetrical areas on a finished product that seem to have gotten popular the past few years. That's just me though, and it really doesn't take away from the beauty of this piece. I like the way the cracks were filled, without having to flood it with epoxy resin, and then do a lot more turning on the lathe. Thanks.
Absolutely gorgeous!! ♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful bowl! Like the way the ebony plays off the black glue you used to fill the cracks with. I thought the loaf of bread was a kind of burl at first, then I realized my mistake, how foolish of me!
I've been watching Sprague and I wanted to see more.. congratulations 👏 your my next subscription. Even though his wood and resin creations are so beautiful, my prefence is solid wood and it's grain and color.
Beautiful work love it

@@HarrySmithWoodturning It does and I did not even see it at first. I remember my granny's bread box. It was insulated with a shiny tin on the outside. She lived on a farm and the house was 70 years old so mice sis on occasion get in. But the bread was always safe. Your box would be a good safe unless the mice chewed on the wood. I've seen them chew through the thickest plastic. Yucky when they do that. I have to say the mice are kind of cute, though.
I really like the asymmetrical top!
Beautiful.

Very nice, a beautiful mix of woods and design. I think you have a few extra steps in there that you can delete. But STYLE is everything and result beautiful.😊
Amazingly beautiful work Harry well done mate 👍🏻
I'm just curious ... Why wouldn't you band saw the corners off to make it an octagon shape before you started? Seems like it would save some time and be easier.
Bread 🍞 🥪 🥖 🤑
Thank you, Sol! Do you think it looks like a pumpkin 😂😄
What a great save. A round bread box, never saw that coming. good job Harry
Thank you! Do you think it looks a bit like a pumpkin? 😂👍
Great job, well done. What was that black paste you put in the cracks.
Beautiful work. As a novice I am curious though. Will the wood sides eventually split or will they maintain their integrity?
Very nice work with what condition the wood was in!
Very nice work. What is the two-part paste for filling?
Very nice work, Harry. You could always store your watermelon slices in it. ;0)
Thank you, Jim! What a great idea!! Also, do you think it looks a bit like a pumpkin? 😂👍
Hi. What did you use for the cracks? You can give a link to the store
Great video - but omg... If the piece ever grabbed those gloves - kiss that hand goodbye!
Amazing amazing job. A total joy to watch you work. Question: What paste did you use to fill in the gaps of the wood ?
It's a two part epoxy putty
What’s the name of the putty and can you include a link to it please?
Harry, you really showcased several of your skills and your mastery of the craft. Best wishes.
That's a lovely piece and it's given me an idea for a piece of wood I've refused to throw away. Thanks for sharing.
