We’re back for Episode 3 and I have to say, I’m loving the comments from you guys on these videos. Me and Watto are loving this new concept and it’s going to improve every week, so thanks for all watching and sharing your thoughts!
In this week’s ep, we took inspiration from the comments and we’re analysing a mistake of my own! This comes in Man United’s BIG 4-3 Derby win over Man City in 2009 and my error which allowed Craig Bellamy to score…
Tottenham’s Vicario has come under heat from set-pieces recently and we look at two goals he conceded against Arsenal in the North London Derby.
We look into Andre Onana and the penalty incident, Wes Foderingham being beaten by Alexander Isak and a sloppy bit of play with his feet from David Raya to allow Spurs to score.
There’s also some goalie love for Onana and England’s Jordan Pickford as they make TOP saves!!
Just to be very clear again…..We aren’t goalie bashing here, we’re just explaining what the goalie could have done differently and discuss if the outcome could’ve been different 🙌🏼
Big up the GK Union 🧤🧤

  • Still getting through the video but I'd like to thank Ben for bringing this type of content into youtube. Goalkeeping analysis tends to be given by non-goalkeepers that have no clue about what they are talking about and usually portraits us in not the most flattering of lights. Thanks for the great content! Up the fozcast

  • For the third Arsenal goal I think what it really highlights is Vicario's age. He hasn't masteted any of the 'Dark Arts' yet. I think other Goalkeepers woukd have just toseed White out the way, held on to him to make sure he's offside, or even step into the contact as White runs in and make a huge fuss (he comes in a lot quicker then most players do). I'm not saying any of these things definitely would have actually done anything, but he doesn't seem to have any of that in his game.

  • Love this corner. Your last comment about feet to save was astonishingly similar to hitting volley in tennis. Footwork is everything. Thanks for such an interesting piece.

  • Love the analysis, breaking stuff down into the micro moments is exactly why i love goalkeeping. What you said at the end about footwork is spot on and i honestly think Jordan Pickford has the best footwork in the world at the moment. His ability to get around the 18box and across the goal line is unmatched in my opinion. I always bring up Pickford clips when I'm coaching youngsters to illustrate how much of an efffect footwork has on making saves

  • Ben Whites movement on the corner is perfect. Starts behind Vicario. Moves around to his front as Rice is stepping to the ball, starts his backup as the ball is struck and bumps into vicario just as he tries to read the flight of the ball. Then he is away from the scene before he can be called for offside once contact is made by Havertz. Just a beautiful timed choreographed move.

Either the attacker blocks you from inside the goal which the reff can see or he tries to engage you as you come out in which you have the momentum meaning you have an advantage

Not that I want to turn it into a Ben bashing segment, but would love to hear your thoughts on the Martial dink goal from 2020 scored against Ben when he was at Watford. In my uneducated view I wouldn't have thought there was much more that Ben could do and it's just exceptional play from Martial, but would love to hear an expert take on it.

  • Love these insights. One question though, I know keepers are now ball players and are supposed to keep the ball and pass, but when they get into a difficult situation (Raya) why don't they ever just clear the ball? Just hit it our far, or out the sidelines? They never do that anymore.

  • Completely disagree. The keeper needs more protection from the officials in situations like this. Listening to the commentators at the time saying “he should move” is absolutely bizarre, because if he moves, he’s taking himself out of the position he’s set himself in (in what I call the sweet spot) all because you’ve got a c*nt of a player trying to obstruct you… why should a keeper have to move from the best position he can be in between the sticks, because of unsportsmanlike behaviour like that? Given the importance of the position, the keeper needs to be protected by officials in situations like this. And on top of that, Ben White needs a slap for trying to undo his gloves.

  • Honest question Ben. How can Ben White trying to take off Vicario's gloves be justified? I'm fine with the man marking but impacting a players attire and taking their attention off the play should be considered cheating in my opinion. If messing with Vic's gloves is fine then untying players boots, pulling down their pants or even pulling off someones headband (Raul Jimenez etc) be fine under that same logic? It's purely cheating, Arsenal did it all game and I don't think the argument that 'Vic should be stronger' can't apply because he shouldn't even have to deal with that in the first place.

  • Nah I’m sorry the Ben White stuff is illegal. Must be within 3 yards of the ball to shield the play which he’s not. If Vicario smashes him in the back to move him and White goes down it’s a PK. The issue is VAR! This used to be called by the ref all day before VAR, but now the refs hold their whistle and let VAR decide and they don’t have a clue. How are you allowed to just back into someone without even attempting to get to the ball. It’s crap, and this is coming from a Chelsea fan

    • Bang on. I know these two are ex pros (I’m also an ex pro) but they’re also KZheadrs who know they need rage bait/outrage for clicks, and the headline “he needs to be stronger” is what gets them those clicks… it’s a foul on the keeper all day.

      @rainycitymcr@rainycitymcr17 күн бұрын
    • Not even a foul lol, if that is a foul then every single player defending a corner should be a foul then, they are constantly shoving and pushing each other. Watch brentford against arsenal where brentford scored from a corner after deliberately blocking ramsdale by putting 2 hands over him, that is called a foul, not this

      @ttheguyy@ttheguyy17 күн бұрын
    • @@ttheguyy it’s completely different what a foul on a keeper is compared to a what a normal foul on the pitch is. A keeper is and needs to be more protected as the slightest disruption or distraction to their play, or attempt to play the ball, results in a goal 9 times out of 10. It’s not just a change of possession or the other team getting the ball/advantage, it’s a goal that can change the entire game. You obviously aren’t a keeper, or a referee, to which I’m a former pro keeper with a ref licence, and my uefa C coaching badges in outfield and goalkeeping. That should’ve been given a foul, without a shadow of a doubt.
