Impeachment is not a criminal trial. It's a political process. And it is a bit of an open question while there are people who have been impeached after leaving office there are also some where the impeachment stopped because they were no longer in office. In general: That's more like if my employer sends me to a sexual harassment course for some misconduct but i leave the company before that. The person i did this to can still press civil and or criminal charges depending on the situation. So your question about not getting arrested misses the point a bit.

"Impeachment in the United States is the process by which a legislature (usually in the form of the lower house) brings charges against a civil officer of government for crimes alleged to have been committed". You can't impeach someone who is no longer a member of government, you can try and charge them for the supposed crimes that they committed to bring about the impeachment or you can try and impeach them if they do run and win office again. Impeachment != Criminal charge. And I'm English, so I really don't give a crap for or against Trump.
@@xenoborg007 I hate to be a stickler but there's nothing in your quote that says the charges have to be filed while said official is still the official. Also, he's being impeached, so chances are people who get paid a lot to know how the law works have probably done more research than what can just be looked up on Google. And I'm American, so I really don't give a crap for or against Brexit. Cheers.
@@asatowne5234 Again Reread, these dumb analogies people keep using are moot, being charged for an actual crime and being impeached are two entirely different things. Impeach is to remove you from office while you are STILL IN OFFICE it's not to charge you with a crime, impeachment is brought about usually because of a crime. THEN if successful or not (impeachment) you can still be actually charged with said crime. No one's saying the accountant can't be charged for murder, but you can't remove the accountant from his job when he has already left said job. The only reason these people are even bothering is because they want to ban Trump from ever becoming president again, impeachments take quite a while to do, they can't be done in the single week left in office. So once again Impeachment charges are not the same as actual criminal charges, one is basically to get you fired from your job, why they use the word charge who knows.
@@asatowne5234 They were going to impeach Nixon, but he resigned from office so there was zero point, because he was no longer president, and subsequently I think he had all the criminal charges dropped later on. I love the natural informality and imperfection of these audience-free shows. I hope some of that can be kept, post-pandemic.
"I have a feeling that I just did something very expensive." We've all been there...
"Oh my god-" 😂
I felt that the time I got hit by a car and did not see the license plate before thay drove off.
6:14 _“Parallel Data Streams”_ sounds like a polite term for _“Alternative Facts”._
This is the scariest part for me. Was the former president using it as an excuse to push his own agenda or did he truly believe that alternative data set? Did T**** think it was real? Because if the latter is true.. I think that night be even note terrifying considering there were several people allegedly calling him and putting false information in his hands knowing he would absorb it.
And "alternative facts" sounds like a polite term for "misinformation".
Or a very nerdy way of saying piss fetish
@@renagonpoi5747 'IS'. 'Alternative facts' IS a misleading term for lies/misinformation.
That's exactly what it is. It gives you a choice which "truth" you want to believe.
Seeing Stephen go from mischievous kid 4:10 to a very concerned adult 4:13 in 3 seconds flat. :D
Jenga gave me a laugh that I didn't know I needed. Danke Mr. Stephen.
*Division according to the GOP:* “No please, mr policemen. Don’t hurt this family more than they already have been, by prosecuting the hit and run driver who killed their children when crossing the road. Now is not the time for further division”,..
"we can't arrest him for drunk driving, because he's not driving, NOW."

Romney has about 1/3 of a spine. He'll stand up for his principles if he thinks it won't hurt him electorally.
True or not, that's still 1/3 more spine than the rest of the RNC!
@@jcorbett9620 There's a meme kicking around about how Romney went from worst of the Republican party to best of them, all without changing at all.
How serious the topic might be, nothing made laugh this hard in quite some time as this clip. Thank you!
Thank you this one just cracked me up!
The chaotic energy of quarantine Steven Colbert is precious.
The best part of the quarantine Late Show is hearing Stephen's wife laugh in the background.
Is it me or was this episode like Extra Funny?!!!! LMAO Hard!!!! Thank you Colbert Writers and Stephen's Fantastic Delivery. Love this Show!!!!
Give it up for Steven Colbert everybody, the best comedian to grace our political issues ever. I love this show and Colbert has never been more on his A game. This is what we were waiting for.
"We already have a flaming fire in this country" So.. when did yall make america great?
I think it was a typo. They meant grate, in reference to delivery pizza.
its only a great country if they have the power... now its a flaming fire... typical repubs, and 6 months ago i didnt even know what a republican was! they made Merica' weak n pathetic, but this Biden fellow, he seems to really want The United States Of America to thrive, and i truly hope he makes America at least decent again, i really do!
To quote something I saw online: "I don udderstan dis but MAKE AMERICA GRATE AGEN!"

Yes, pee tapes should be the least of it. I dread to think there may be literal skeletons in his wardrobe.
Thank you for not editing that gold out 💜
Hello Steve and the team. Watching with, you from UK. Love to youball🌹💞❤️💐😁😁😁😁💋👀
WHY cant Republicans EVER just answer the question that is put to them ?
Republicans: "Because, this is America! Freedom of speech! We can say whatever we want to even if it's a lie! 1ST AMENDMENT, YALL!" ... Rest of the World: 😕
BC R-trumpers are all malignant narcissists and this is part of how they shunt responsibility away from themselves
gaslighting is the answer for everything
They have to pretend they care about the people who voted for them and not just lobbyists. They're very bad at it.
That's a very common trait actoss all politicians. I remember a Pelosi interview with Wolf Blitzer about Covid relief bill.... He asked a rather important critical question her respone was more or less (paraphrasing of coirse) "I came here for an interview not for another discussion with a Trump supporter".... yeah she called Blitzer a Trump supporter and never answered the question.. Politicians do stuff like that all the time it's just getting rather blatant and outrageous the longer it goes on
"this'll all be edited out obviously.." "obviously"
Yeah , for sure , we edit out all takes that do not fail .
Love the built-in bloopers! 😂
That bit with the silly string was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
