@@paanchenko yes but what if the float had a small hole, or it isn't inflated properly it can strangle or hurt the baby. Any sort of inflatable tool is unsafe at that age. Babys have great swimming reflexes, and at that age, they should be taught how to float on their backs

So sorry for your loss 😢 I lost 2 of my brothers out of 6 of us one brother by suicide when I was 23 & he was 20 it was like a piece of me went w/ him & another when I was 29 he was 28 in 2022 (my irish twin) to an overdose. Nothing in life prepares you for the loss of your forever friends 💔 I never expected that he would ever get so low it would be his answer & I always knew it would happen with my other brother but it still couldn't prepare me for when it actually happened. I can not fathom a triplet or at such a young age, I'm sure you still think about them all the time and what could've been.

@Randomnessandwich I feel that I have but it took a long time getting used to losing my brother to suicide 💔 I kept feeling like if only I could rewind time, had nightmares, became an alcoholic for a while then traded that in & became an addict but I lost my dad when he was 46, & much more I just couldn't be the strong one anymore. I'm happy to say I've been 2 yrs sober & very focused no matter what on staying a good person. Which hasn't been easy bc I keep getting robbed/taken advantage of & it kind of makes me feel like what's the point? But I won't let anyone steal my shine. I sure as hell don't have much to be jealous of but they say hurt ppl hurt ppl 🤷‍♀️ I often repeat this quote to myself "don't give in to despair, believe in the truth". & I feel like losing anyone no matter the time is hard, thinking about what could've been, it's not about the time on earth it's about the impact they made on our hearts. Something about 10yrs old haunts me I spent a lot of time fearing death like how scary it was for my brother especially to go through that. Now I'm a little less paralyzed by some of those thoughts. But I was a wreck for the 1st 6 months I cried everyday driving, hearing songs, seeing places & realizing he was gone but I had to realize the ones I love that are here still needed me & I needed to live my life too.

​@@peggyreinhold886 They are. I've seen parents with their yound babies using them in a public pool (during quiet times int he kiddies zone and never ever letting their eyes stray away from the baby). Although a toddler needs actual propper devices like a life jacket.

In this case I agree, they're obviously in the pool with them but overall, assuming that a large adult presence means assumed safety can have dangerous consequences.

FYI, though they have been deemed unsafe, it doesn’t look like they plan on leaving their children in the water, unattended, like some of the parents of the deceased did.

Due to flotation devices like those being wrapped around the neck, a dangerous decrease in airflow can occur even before the child is placed in the water, and since their body weight is being held by their neck, even in water, the consistent pressure can cause everything from soft tissue damage to spinal damage to oxygen-deficient brain damage. This is especially true in young children whose bodies are still developing. That aside, while many drowning deaths and injuries to occur when kids are unattended, many, MANY happen when there are adults around. That person I mentioned that lost their son? He was being actively watched by a lifeguard. He was the only kid in the pool. Both of the times my parents almost lost me, I was being watched by several adults. The second time, my dad was looking directly at me. Drowning doesn’t look like how it does in movies. People don’t usually flail around or splash at the surface of the water. They don’t have the energy. Most drowning is silent, and by the time you’ve realized that one of the kids under your watch isn’t acting right or has been under just a little too long, they have already inhaled water at the least or are already dead at the worst. Most of the time, it’s brain damage and lung damage from chlorine treated water. In babies it is even harder to tell. The reason why alternative flotation devices are so dangerous is because they either present dangers themselves or aren’t sufficient to keep the head of a child above water consistently. They also don’t teach proper body positioning in the water, so kids that use these devices are far more likely to sink if they *do* fail. Lots of parents don’t know that, either, since they assume there is some sort of regulatory requirement for flotation devices. Unfortunately, many have found out that there isn’t in the worst possible way. I get you mean well, I really do, but water safety is one of those things you never take shortcuts with, especially when babies are concerned. There is a reason why so many of those devices are recalled every year. They are inherently dangerous, and they all have a death count. I didn’t make my original comment to shame these parents. 99% of them that use these flotation devices genuinely don’t know. I know for a fact my parents didn’t, and it took two near tragedies in quick succession for them to realize that they needed to do more research for our sake. Parents that have lost their children beg for people that see parents using unsafe flotation devices to tell them and direct them towards the safe ones, because if someone had done that for those parents that lost their kids, those kids might still be here right now. (Also, my aunt and grandmother are both nurses, and I’m fairly certain my grandma was about to throttle my dad the first time he told her he had been using water wings instead of a life jacket with my little sister.)
