Fun fact, Kisaragi Station is not a station in Japan but actually an urban legend tale of a girl who fell asleep on the train, missed her stop and traveled dimensions. The girl ended up at a place called "Kisaragi Station" which does not truly exist and where she had said her location was near was next to Japan's "dead bodies mountain." It is believed that therefore, this Kisaragi Station was the land of the dead. The girl was never seen again after her phone lost charge, however it was mentioned that she said she had met an old man there before she disappeared. I think this game was a pretty cool twist to that telling, the wife resembling the girl and the teacher resembling the old man.

What? Bro thats so trippy. Tbh i thought that it was a girl at first and it still feels like it is but in this game its a male.
Honestly, I see this as a metaphor for depression and suicidal thoughts. The main character's wife died and he spiraled, The train symbolizing an attempt and the last stop symbolizing death, every night he attempts to take his own life but he always gets off before the last stop, even though in the final ride where he rode it to the last stop before the end of the tracks, he still got off and that put him close enough to death to have a revelation of sorts in the form of the phone call. With the phone call he was able to put his anguish to rest and move on with his life and get a new job.

Honestly, while I know it shouldn't, this made me shed tears. That is so deep and actually hurts, the realization that his wife was dead, and that he was never going to see her again. That she had appeared and saved him from death, and then disappeared, presumably never to come back. Extremely depressing.

I think this game is about a grieving man struggling to accept the passing of his wife. The line, "you're here too early" makes me think that she's telling him he's not ready for the afterlife after attempting to take his own life because the grief was too much to bear. The characters you meet as you play the game could possibly be people that have died too, and you are taking the train with them to the afterlife; but this isn't your stop, not yet at least.

I think the game is about the acceptance of loss. The man’s repetition of going to the station, using the bathroom, buying the applejuice and smoking before getting on the train could represent how often we take for granted the comfort of repetition and stability in our lives until it’s gone, and I think Eiko was represented by the woman who always rode the train with him, and how he didn’t bother to reach out until it was too late. He presence was comforting but because she was part of the routine, he never notice how much he needed her company until it was gone. (That’s shown by him finally talking to her, and her insisting that it was too late even just to talk about her problems.) The first missing stop represented how loss can easily upset a schedule even if you try to prevent it, and it being the conductor’s fault frames it in a way that represents the guilt and remorse always being easier to blame than yourself. The cicada man represents how grief can stand in the way of doing things that need to be done, so much so that it feels like a physical barrier holding you back. The little girl napping with the main character represents the search for familiarity in a foreign place, and her forgetting what her dad looks like represents how grief can swallow you until the person you’ve lost isn’t even the priority anymore, it’s the crippling loneliness of being afraid and suddenly left behind. Meeting the old man represents finding someone who motivated you and realizing that who they are now, after succumbing the grief, is so vastly different from who they really are, and how it takes finding someone like that to truly acknowledge that you’re not too far gone. I think the woman standing on the tracks was a hallucination, and that suicide was how Eiko died. I think the main character tried to kill himself in the end too, but was saved by the idea that ending his own life from grief wasn’t what his wife would have wanted, eventually leading him to change his ways and turn his life around

My dad told me that in Japan, people will work themselves so hard to the point of death. To be honest it is quite common to see someone die from stress in Japan. That being said I believe that along with this information and the information from the game, it could represent that the main protagonist not only worked themsevles too hard, but also got stressed from the consequences of life. The train represents death and how the main protagonist is on their way to the end of their life. The game overall is amazing but the message can be considered dark. Love your videos either way Cory. Been here since day one.

I love how they made a horror game about Kisaragi station. That story just gives me chills whenever I read it but this time the good ending was kinda sweet. From the looks of it, Kensuke's wife was already dead, however, she managed to find him and lead him to the "afterlife" with her instead of him being lost in Kisaragi station forever. And all those people in the train, they too were already dead but Kensuke had met them when he was still alive (that's why they appeared before him and weren't harmful/threatening towards him).
Thought she guided him home because it wasn't his time yet 🤔

As for the story, it is based on a fictional legend that was originally posted on 2chan. I believe the story went as such, Hasumi (the original poster?) ends up at the said ghost station, Kisaragi Station, and comments/writes about their experiences there. In the end, they're never heard from again, saying their battery is dead and followed the mumbling man onto the train. It might be possible that our MC of the game might have died, at some point, or even wandered onto the train on accident, hence the weirdness of it. Probably the people we saw were already dead, given the fact that the MC is a grown salaryman, his old teacher appeared--and sorry, not sorry,--the teacher would probably be dead by then. Depending on the ending we saw, we could get a bad ending(s) or a good ending(s). As has been written, you shouldn't/can never leave the station, but it is possible to call someone, but they would never be able to retrieve you. Luckily, our wife, which we can presume is dead, is able to get to us. This is why she says something along the lines of "You are here too early." Not too exciting? But it at least dives into some of Japan's...tamer...urban legends :) If I get anything wrong feel free to comment lol. Years of watching creepy urban legends have gotten to this point.

The train ride is the metaphor for life. Those people on the train were people he once knew. The “final stop” being death of course…. I believed since the beginning of watching this that the “Old Lady” was dead. Since she said, “It’s too late.” I can only assume it was the guy’s mother. I believe the drunk guy was of course his dad. Who probably drank beer a lot. The bug guy, it explains at the end, was some guy who the man bullied in school. I do not know who the girl was. I assume it was either his younger sister or daughter (since he had a wife). Shimizu was apparently a guy who helped him out in school (and maybe in other situations in life). He also apparently had a wife who died. I believe his wife kept him from dying somehow. (That’s why she “saves” you at the end.)
That's also what I got from it too, I'm just stuck wondering what the significance of the woman on the train was. It doesn't make sense that that would be his wife, or why they just disappeared. For whatever reason they were evidently significant enough to warrant their own sets of dialogue. Also I had to scroll way to far to find a comment that wasn't just circle jerking cory coming back lol

I think the ppl on the train station are people he indirectly knows somewhat. If you call the co-worker, MC explains that his co-worker usually helps. When MC asks for a ride, he can hear crying in the background which is the coworkers gf. And he says, she sometimes starts crying when emembering things. It's cute when she does that, in middle school her friend would get bullied by some student from another school. The coworker then mentions the name of the middle school. Which also happens to be the same middle school, his wife went into.
Adding another thing: Looking up the other endings they all lead somewhat to the cicada dude. For example if you call the taxi, it's the wife's friend, who says it's been 2 years since her wife's disappearance. Since then, the friend felt it was right to mention that his wife was regretting something that happened in the past. "During in 8th grade, our group" Then the line cuts off MC thinks he doesn't care what happens in the past and he'll still love her no matter what. So, I have no idea how the woman, the drunk and the little girl connect. But from what am getting, everyone thought MC was a bully cause he killed the cicadas, but apparently the wife was the culprit.

My theory - the woman on train was his wife in the past (and she is dead by the time of the game is started) and some other people are some people from the protagonist's life (e.g. cicada dude that most likely is the ex classmate) or strangers and all were dead (the thing you place for the girl is one of the symbols that are placed on the children's graves) so considering the middle age crisis most likely the protagonist attempted a self elimination so got on the train and had to learn stuff and get out to live again..

I think the wife might've died on the train, and he couldn't accept the death of his wife. Since every person he knew was on the train, and they all died, the wife must have been there at some point. When he was at the Kisaragi Station, I'm pretty sure the teacher was dead as well. The wife said, "Don't tell me you too..." I think she might've been sent to the same place. The wife was in an attempt not to save herself, but to save the main character. It wasn't his time to go to the station. It was a train to the afterlife. All those people were on their way to the afterlife, and he wasn't supposed to be there. This wasn't his stop.

Compared to the other games this one is a bit slower paced, but the story is still good. Someone just commented about how this is a big urban legend in Japan so there’s probably a lot of lore that we’re missing/reasons for the more mellow tone throughout the play through. I'm really happy to see that cory's back. i remember finding his Among the Sleep gameplay and waiting every day after school for each part to release because it was the highlight of my day. Now that i've grown more, i've had a lot of mental health issues, and i've had my fair share of things i'm not proud of. however, throughout all those moments, i would turn to watch cory's videos and they'd really turn things around for me. i felt really sad when i heard that he wasnt going to be posting anymore. and just recently, i found out that he is posting again, and i've gotten back into watching his content. his content continues to get me through difficult times. samurai for life, thank you for all the work that you've done cory. :)

I honestly enjoyed this game, I'm more into the storyline of a horror game rather than the quality of scares. It wasn't scary at all but the plot was cool. The ending was really bittersweet

when i saw the name of the station, i couldn't help but think it sounded familiar so i searched it up and turns out the game is based on a creepy pasta. i dont remember the whole story but basically, this girl rode a train and it didn't stop at the station she was supposed to get off so she went to an online forum like 4chan and asked people what she should do. people would advise her on what to do and she'd keep them updated. but when she got to Kisaragi station (the last stop i think), she had no choice but to get off. she asked around for directions on the online forum yet no one seemed to know where Kisaragi station was and suddenly, she just stopped posting updates. people were worried of course so they tried to look for the station she last mentioned but apparently that station doesn't even exist. so then, people think it was just someone messing around or, really, she was in a ghost train that took her to another world.

This game had a good message, the wife was a real one. She said “it’s not your time yet” Here’s a story my mom told me once. A baby was sitting by the window, and it was open. The baby fell down to the ground and right as it was going to it the floor, two hands grasped the baby softly, saving it from death. The person then whispered “it’s not your time yet” and the mom came running down the stairs outside to see the baby safely placed on the ground. 22 years later, the baby is a pastor, preaching his survival to those wiling to hear.
Let me tell you a story, when i was a baby i fell out a 2 story window landed on a rough not to far from the window. Roof was slanted, i then proceeded to roll down said roof fall off of that. Landed in a flower pot, all the while my mom saw it happen when she was doing some work outside (about 50 meters away for perspective) (We lived in private property with a community collectively paying for it). 19 years later im a pastor. Naw im jk😂.. the story is true though, all that did happen im just not a pastor. I like to think my mom had quite the conversation with my dad (who was apparently watching me and my brother) when she brought me back upstairs

Honestly, this was one of my favorite Chillas Art games, everything had a meaning and you empathize with the character and get nostalgic in the stories told by his friends and family in the phone. I loved the metaphor for the train being death and how only dead people close to the character were in it. Yes, it was a little confusing and random in some parts but thats honestly a tradition in chillas art games.

@@hoshf47 yeah when he called Home and his wife answered and realized he had somebody to call "Home" since I'm guessing he lost his wife and have moved on too quick by his repeated corporate work. I teared up a bit because I understand that feeling of having no one to come to. It' a 10/10 game for a story/metaphor wise, but horror is 7/10, I don't think it was meant to scare you but to immerse you ig.
