Impact without pain. A couple years back I hit a block of ice under the snow with a snowboard while braking, with my back towards the slope. I hit it fast and I did a full 360 before landing on my chest. Thanks to my clothes and the snow it was pretty much painless, but the impact took the wind out of me pretty hard, I was gasping for air for a good 5-10 seconds. So I'd imagine that's kinda what happened to Johnny too.
it's like having your teeth done at the dentist, you can't feel the pain but if feels horrible. He felt a thud in a shovel like area but did not feel the pain.
Hearing Knoxville talk about turning down SNL because he had faith in the crew and what they were doing hits hard.

Hearing him comment on the concussions broke my heart. You can hear how he knows he’s due for severe issues in the future.
I hope they keep doing interviews like this with him before that time comes. They all have to know what their futures might look like.
Anytime I feel down or having anxiety issues, I find anything Jackass to watch on YT and I feel better immediately. Better days. Amazing times. If I could ever meet any of them, I’d thank them for how much they helped me over the years.

it's actually a good descriotion. He means how a shovel is wide and flat so it would disperse the blow across your chest. Which is what the vest made the bullet feel like, rather than being concentrated in a very small spot and causing a lot of damage like you would expect.

Love Johnny Knoxville a ton watching the big brother documentary on Hulu and seeing how he wrote about the devices for self protection like the taser, stun gun, mace and vest shows dedication to the art of writing.
