  • Gary, I am happy to stand by your side on this endeavor to support equality. Here in the USA; we are struggling….whilst walking my dog, I’ve seen people on the streets, make shift tents of people living below an underpass of a freeway, people in bushes are found dead or dying of exposure from 120 degree heat, scratching their skin off of their body and face or even passed out with needles still stuck in their arms and the hopelessness is unbearable. Humanity has been dealing with what I call: ‘MSS’ (master and servant syndrome) for ages now…all the way back to kings, queens and peasants or surfs with lords…nothing has changed, it’s now just called business with CEO’s, REIT’s, private equity, corporations and the like…shielded by financial products, bought and paid for politicians and tax havens; the behavior continues…year after year and it’s disgusting. 😞

    • This is it. Continuous exploitation of everyone. Removal of workers rights, removal of being a worker and instead being called a contractor, freelancer, etc just so you don't have employment rights, so you don't have holiday or sick pay, etc. And because they only need to convince voters once every 5 years, and because they can hire the best psychologists, strategists, spin doctors, bot farms and media, they reduce taxes a little bit just before the election in Leeds to win and then remove more rights, lower wages, put up prices, all so the rich have even more and we have even less. 35,000 people are now waiting more than 12 hours in Accident And Emergency at hospitals in Britain. It used to be Zero before the Conservatives got power 14 years ago. Zero hours contracts, with no pension, no sick pay, no holidays. How can anyone budget when you never know what hours you're going to work? In 40 years house prices increased by 10x while wages only went up 2x. That's why a mortgage is now 9x salary, but in the 1980s it was 3,4x salary for an average house on average wages. We have been robbed of so much.

  • The thing is what Gary talks about doesn't just affect the UK, but pretty much the world. I've seen countless programmes this fortnight about people struggling and just trying to get on the housing ladder in Australia, Europe and other countries. Ideally it needs a global approach to put right, but there's certainly a lot the UK government can do to put this right.

    • The Co-operative movement tried to address it, by helping people to help themselves. However, it only takes one bad egg (cf Co-operative Bank boss) to ruin it. Reading Animal Farm by George Orwell was an eye-opener for me. What makes someone selfish is one of my key questions. I've come across two partial answers: one is a genetic or mental disorder (sociopathy - there's a higher percentage of CEOs and Directors who suffer from it than the rest of the population) ; and the other is a traumatic childhood (often) incident that leads to a loss of trust in other people.

  • The Occupy movement (2011) was about gross inequality. (0.01% vs 99.99%). It came in response to the banks crashing the global economy in an orgy of fraud in 2007. One value this has is there is a wealth of archive material on gross inequality and the economic harm it causes. This was quite a big movement. And there is a wealth of professional and activist allies. For example, OXFAM shifted to focus on gross inequality. There is a solid foundation

Remember how the post office and miners crap happened, but most people had no idea what/why or knew the truth behind the events because of the cover-ups by the powers that be? Sympathy for them was thin on the ground until the recent documentary programmes. There was a roar of emotion in their favour because people had no clue what really happened. Gary, make a documentary, and get the word out there! It will get more people talking. Who knows, a taxation law for the very rich might get passed. Look at Brexit. The politicians didn't want it, but the people did. Whether you were for or against Brexit, the population voted and got their voices heard. I really hope you read this. I'm so impressed by your words. Your parents must be very proud of you. I'm proud of you ❤ 🤓

    • What is a society? Or an organisation? It's a collective of people. Simply turn enough people onto a cause and things can shift. All societies are shaped by movements and all movements start with a common goal. We all agree we want a better future but we need to agree on how to achieve that. If everyone chases their agenda then those with money will win because they can buy support, common people need to chase the same agenda and do it with a 10,20,50+ year plan and not jump ship on poor policies like tax cuts which grant them no benefit after a few months have passed.

    • @@UkSapyy Yes. Neoliberalism is built on spreading the narrative that “society” kills “freedom”, so for 40 years we’ve more or less shouted for “more freedom”. What we got was freedom for nominal capital, ownership, and incorporated entities to dodge responsibilities across any border - borders governments cannot traverse legally, as well as people themselves. Restricting this “freedom for wealth” will mean deep legislative changes across the OECD. This is also why internationalism often is tied to socialism. That’s not to “spread the word”, but simply a causal outcome of the hyper-nationality of capital by treaties and law. I don’t think “politics” can achieve this as incremental change in a totally interdependent financial and macroeconomic status quo. It’s as global as the ecological constraints we also share. Nationalism is the even more dangerous antidote, we know what that brings. So, not “EU” or “trade” based on corporate power. Since people across too many governments share the same perils, changing PMs or presidents is a distraction. Changing corporate “freedom” reaches across that deafening noise. Best of luck from a heterodox 🇳🇴’gian, Gary and everyone…!

I can't even begin to imagine what it is, but can't help thinking that just repetitively saying "tax the rich" is not going to get the job done. Stating problems without giving solutions is what politicians do, which is why the general public have lost faith in them. This is something I think Gary can take advantage of. I try and buy local, from small producers where I can. For example: Rapanui/Teemill which pays suppliers in India a "living contract" (similar to a "living wage" here in the UK), uses renewable energy for all it's printing & packing etc in the UK (their t-shirts etc are also good too, if a little more expensive, but they last longer).

  • I really wish you would make a documentary series educating people on the economic truth, a deep dive expose topped off with the taxing the rich situation. Your personal story is great but it’s what you’ve discovered that we are really interested in. How you got there isn’t near as important as what you have understood from your journey combined with your incredible IQ. I’m sure the book is good but I was frankly disappointed in the apparent concept… so much crucial time spent away on this too. I hope it works as a promotional tool for the real movement like you intend but you need to do a cinematic documentary series, a few hours per episode…. In a kind of trilogy. It can include your back story but only by way of a brief introduction to the actual cause. Somehow though your personal back story has taken center stage and I can’t help but feel like your talents have been distracted from what’s important. From a genuine fan.

    • That makes no difference. Just follow the FT story about the demise of Credit Suisse. It lists all the Banking factors that produce the problems. If you want an historical perspective, because we've been here before, you should check the works of the former Wall St trader, and now economic historian Michael Hudson. There are loads of interviews with him on KZhead where he outlines the history of Finance and Debt back from Ancient Mesopotamia, and he cogently outlines the evolution of both into the globalised financialised world we live in today. A prolific author, his work is easy to read, and prides the context for the ideology behind Neoliberal economic policy making. I would offer an honourable mention to Mark Blyth, a Scottish expat International Political Economy professor at the Ivy League Brown University in the US. An excellent disseminator of economic ideas, he has written books like "Austerity: the history of a bad idea" and "Angrynomics" with Eric Lonregan. Coming from holes-in-your-shoes poverty, to having his love of economics and political debate nurtured by the wlefare state and the Scottish education system, Blyth passionately believes in wealth redistribution via optimising tax on capital gains and the creation of sovereign wealth funds. He gave me the bug, because he communicates complex ideas clearly, and he is astute politically. He publically said why Trump would win, listing clearly and succinctly the evolution of Neoliberal economics that seeks to legitimise expanding wealth inequality through globalised financialisation's chickens coming home to roost. He's here on KZhead, with lectures, podcasts, and interviews. (He's funny, self-deprecating, and plays the bass.) Along with Gary, they are all critics of how economics has been used to legitimise economic policies that fail to make economies work for everyone, because, "where ideology leads, suffering is sure to follow." I hope you find this useful.

I would recommend young people to migrate to low tax countries such as those in Eastern Europe. In Poland you can pay 12 percent flat tax and work remotely for a western company.
