welcome to the rabbit hole! I started with a G923 on a coffee table... now 1000's of dollars later, 4 different monitors from 48" OLED to now a 57" G9... 2 different rigs now a FGT and a CSL DD 8nm... I pretty happy with my equipment to what my skill level is.

Getting my super ultra wide was hands down the biggest jump ive experienced in gaming. It was absolutely mind blowing , and still impresses me when i revisit old favorites to rexperience them all over again
So going from my 55' big screen tv to this should be a huge step up? But will this be better than tripled ? Having a real sense of speed seeing all around you show help my brain adapt to the sim driving.
@@mrj3217 pure sim triples have an edge but if your just getting it for overall gaming and racing the ultra wide goes too hard

I just started doing sim racing and I started with a wheel on my desk with a 27". when I built a rig I bought a 34" and I am quite happy with it. 49" is goals but I dont know if I will ever get that deep into it unless I can find a deal.
I been in ultrawide almost the years ago, unfortunately I don't have the space for a superultrawide. I'm truly crammed in my office space. But I use vr, so field of view on the monitor had not been an issue for racing.

I'm always tempted to get a 49 inch curved ultra widescreen because I think it's the best compromise between triples (huge space & alignment issues) & VR (stuttering & visual compromise); I have a widescreen 29 inch which is fine for now but I'm thinking about investing more....you're right that's it's immersion above anything else though & that's what we all want I think; as such a large ultra wide is a very good option.
I watch boosted media and other guys with triples and it is like your driving a real car . This has to help your driving because your driving vision is just like a real car.
Yeah 49” is not affordable in Canada unless you want to spend $1500+++++ and it’s rare there on sale, so I had to settle for a 34” ultrawide which was $499 on sale. Went from a 29” ultrawide to 34” and it’s a massive difference can only imagine the 49”…… great video Timo 👍👍
bestbuy ca had a Samsung 49" Ultrawide on sale for 850 but it ended last night.

I always would use tripple setup its usualy the same price as an ultra wide or cheaper moslty cheaper. and i get much more pro´s than con´s of course if we only talk about pure sim racing not arcade racing games because the latter often doesn´t support tripples, where true sim´s usualy do and with nvidia the setup process is easy and easy to revert back once you know what youre doing.

I also made the same progression but I started on a 27inch 1080p 60hz VA panel before upgrading to a 1440p ips @144hz. That change alone was a game changer. Upgrading to a 34inch 144hz monitor improved my immersion even further but getting the G9 was the end game. I'm interested in the 8k ultrawide G9 model coming out next year as long as it isn't priced out of whack.
8K - could your system/GPU handle that?

Jadier using 21:9 BenQ 3415R 3440*1440 UWQHD and he use only 56 FOV in ACC. I am using this monitor too and it very versatile.
I have an ultrawide 49 inch monitor, it is great, never regretted it. Brand Agon, it is 5k. Costed me 1200 euro's. So the same as yours! But you need a fast computer, because your videocard has to work twice hard.
Great video. When I went from 16:9 to 21:9 I had a real “wow effect” too. I can’t imagine how great and immersive it feels with a 32:9 screen. One can dream. But right now I don’t have the room for it and my pc couldn’t handle the extra pixels anyways. Did you consider triple screen? And what made you choose the 49 inch monitor?
Thx. Yes, I also considered triples (quadruples even) but that would have definitely been too big for my room and too much for my PC.
Using a 27" 16:9 4K monitor since 4 years. I can sense how 49" UW must be super immersive! However I'm not sure I'd appreciate losing the incredible pixel density of my current monitor , which almost eliminates aliasing and provides such clarity in the distance. Seat position is indeed very important (assuming proper FOV): I always put it a tad forward (and usually a bit up) to see more of the road as it helps immensely for better cornering and improves immersion
1440p in what is essentially the height of 27” monitor is still crystal clear. 4K for 27” is overkill IMO
@@beemrmem3 4K @ 27" is a tad clearer even, providing better clarity in the distance and making aliasing almost a non-issue. It's hard to go back once you are used to it. But it's not widescreen, I get that.
Have you tried trackIR 5 with your super ultrawide monitor? I thought it would be a game changer

🙏 In ACC I also use just a single screen (49"). The FOV is the same as for AC.
I upgraded from the 49" to the new 57" it's pretty awesome. I did try 32 triples but felt I couldn't use it as a regular PC cause the way Surround works. You dont have any issues with the 57" just feels like one monitor

This monitor is on sale in the UK via Amazon for £599. Mine is arriving Thursday. At that price it is good value.
Well may sound nice, but I will still go with my VR headset for my gaming. Cheaper than buying a huge monitor. I do have a large LCD display which I have had for many years now. Works fine for me, got it on a sale price, and does not take up allot of space.

Thanks to this review I myself decided to get a 49 inch monitor and it was one of the better purchases I made . Now a new 57 inch product from Samsung has been released, or have you thought about switching yet? Surely that would be the next step in taking the plunge.
Hi, thanks. Didn't know about a 57 inch monitor, will have to investigate ... As of now, I don't plan to switch, but you never know. Sometimes the urge becomes too strong and makes you ignore all rationality 😜
@@TimoDick It's true, sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation. I also have little space for a Rig, practically every cm of free space in the room is used. As it turns out I have 12 cm left on each side for the monitor, I can't stuff Tripel there, and this 57 inch monitor adds about 9cm on each side, so it would almost perfectly fit into the free space. At this point I haven't yet seen a comparison of how much more I'll see compared to the 49, but I'm already getting ready for it. I'm also hoping there will be a competitive response soon, and the price won't be so sick.

At the time of the vid it was a RTX 2080. Could handle AC and AMS2 easily.

At the time of and for this video I guess it was "Inmersive Natural". Today it's CSP+Sol+Pure with ILP_natural
I think you will go with triples next. Wide wise it takes about the same space, and if put right in the corner the triples are parallel to the walls, so it’s very compact . But you will see the cars on both of your sides. There are lots of situations in racing, especially at start , in which you are in “sandwich “. You have a great monitor though. I am still debating with myself between the ultrawide and triples, only because of the price on the video card. Thank you for sharing 👍
I currently have triples (3x 1080p 144hz) I'm going with a 21:9 34" 1440p. If I don't like it I'll save for the 49". Triples even at 1080p are a lot on a system. I have a 3080ti and it struggles sometimes. With new games coming and new effects coming to iracing its only going to tax it more. Not to mention I like to play FPS games and my gpu only has 4 ports. I do not want two pc's.

@@MatheusZag0 I do like it but playing ATS and ETS2 makes me miss the triples. If you’re tight on space it’s nice. If I had the cash I’d go for the 49” instead but for the money 34” the smarter option.

So how about 55'' 120hz gaming tv compare to 49'' 32:9，in same distance and ‘’correct‘’ fov setting，u get almast same horizontal viewing area（ tv got tiny a little bit more）.
I prefer a 65", you can increase FOV more, and it's not bad compared to triple, but not enough, for information a triple 27" is like 81" :)

They look great but you still can’t see right hand mirror on most cars
I can never go back to 16:9 monitor now that i've experienced 32:9 aspect ratio.
The linked video is set to 'private'' now. Any input why I should be using 54cm? I'm sitting about 70cm from my 34" and I always find it hard to set the correct fov, feels kinda limited from what the calculators say. Of course, 56cm vs 54cm like your is quite a bit different than 70cm vs 54cm...
Essentially that is a rule of thumb. Don't take the 54/58 cm too religiously. If it feels natural and right to you, it is right (for you). Remember, we are still sitting in front of a flat screen. As another rule of thumb I for instance try to match the size of the virtual driver's hands and wheel with my own physical, and also put the camera where his head is.
@@TimoDick I try to match that too, but is there some shortcut to automatically set the right head placement? Often when I move the camera back so it looks pretty ok, when I glance left/right I seem to be in the seat and not right in it.
@@lapinobelAfaik there is not automatism. However, here is what I do and am content with it. I look down (you can assign a button for that) AND also move the pitch (again button) down to the lowest. Then I move the camera so that it sits right on the neck. Usually that is the case when you don't see the neck coating of the overall anymore. The rest then is finetuning. Luckily, the game remembers your position for the respective car. So you don't have to do this every time.
I'm not sure if 49 inch is the way to go. For the same price I would get a combination of a 34 inch curved ultra wide and a VR headset for shorter fully immersed sessions. I already have issues with the image looking stretched on the left and right side of the screen with a 34 inch ultra wide monitor and it looks a lot worse with the 49 inch.
Yeah, in his example the right side mirror is visible. That FOV isn't available in all cars from what I understand. I am working my way to triples if I can get it to work
Setting up the super ultra wide 49" screen correctly using triple screen fov settings and correct angle you can get rid of the stretching. (for example 1800r = 13 degrees) iRacing even has direct support for wide monitors so you don't even need to use the triple screen trick to get a correct view across the screen.
Use smooth tracking with 49" monitor and its chefs kiss. dont "need" triples
it has never been cheaper to build a triple 1080 screen setup to get all the driveability benefits you would ever need.. go up in resolution or a 32:9 and its going to enhance the experience, but not necessarily make you faster. where a 32:9 screen shines is to build a more simple and cleaner setup. and if its a 1440p, it is future proofed for a long time.

If I downscale the ratio and resolution 1440p (16:9) from 1440p Ultrawide (21:9). 1440p will it look native or blurred in ultrawide 1440p? I can't find this kind of video test on youtube. Amd 1440p Ultrawide to 1080p Ultrawide and 16:9 1080p. If it's possible so we will have 4 in 1. Like 1: Native ultrawide 1440p (21:9) 2: 1440p (16:9) 3: 1080p Ultrawide (21:9) 4: 1080p (16:9) It will help me buy 1440p Ultrawide. So in the future, if my native 1440p Ultrawide can't handle the game I can downscale the resolution like 1440p (16:9) or 1080p (16:9) that I mentioned until I buy my gaming parts.
Afaik if game and monitor support your desired resolution, the image will always be scaled correctly on your screen, eventually showing black horizontal or vertical bars.

Triples is cool. But I don't have the space and I shy the load on my graphics card that comes with them..

Yes. Great immersion, no doubt. Yet, as a content creator, I prefer monitors. ATM I do not own a VR. I found it too much of a hassle.
I have the 49” G9 Samsung. I don’t even use it anymore after getting my HP Reverb G2 VR set. I’m waiting to see if they ever make a double 32” size monitor 😁. Which would be around 60”!

Same. I have a samsung G9 but it’s used to be my mirror because I only race with my varjo aero. So it was a waste of money for me looking back There was a time i was single and had my rig in front of my tv. That could compete tho. But that is a 77 inch lg g1 oled so yes if you sit 1m from a 77 inch it fils your fov completely. But the main reason i don’t think i will ever go back to tv or monitor setup is using a motion platform and the movement is wierd on static images on flatscreen. But when in vr it takes away all oddness. And if you are prone to motion sickness in VR The best thing you can do is buying a Motionplatform. Might sound strange but nobody that used my simrig, even my grandpa and dad both well over 60 and never used vr did get motionsickness and sat there for over an hour.

Yes, and yet I overall prefer monitors. Less technical hassle, more comfort, and better for producing content. I cannot imagine using VR for 3 consecutive hours.
3 Triple 27's is better imo and way cheaper. But to each their own!

I notice that in an open wheeler you can see both left and right rear view mirrors, but in a touring car it seems to lose either the drivers or passenger side mirror depending if the car is right or lefthand drive. I imagine if the FOV is adjusted so the missing mirror comes into view, the end result means the FOV perhaps isn't ideal, would that be right?
I came very close to getting the 49" Oddessy. I ended up just getting triple 32" instead. It's insane how much better it is than a standard 16:9 monitor. I can't even imagine going back. It's such a handicap. No offense to people, but you're a straight up liability if you're playing with a single monitor. Your spacial awareness just isn't good enough. Exceptions apply to some very good drivers out there, but chances are you ain't it.
I’ll make sure to give you and your triple setup a friendly nudge into the runoff’s with my lowly single 24.5 in 16:9 monitor.😎

Very disappointing video. The 32:9 image has been reframed to 4:3 and letterboxed instead of showing a true 32:9 image. On my 49" screen, the image appears as a comically small rectangle in the center of the screen. Why do this on a piece supposedly extolling the virtue of the super ultrawide aspect?

Been there, done that. Sold my VR headset. Admittedly, best immersion, but too little comfort, too much hassle and just not the right thing for most of my content creation. But as always, different people, different tastes and opinions. Best, Timo
