  • Jerry Jones won three Super Bowls with the team Jimmy Johnson built. He hasn't won one since because his ego and his nepotism get in the way.

  • Simply the best, he can spot talent when everyone else spots trash. When with the Dolphins he spotted Zach Thomas in the 6th round, then started him in the first game. Zach is not big, he’s not fast but that man out works and out studies everyone. His first tackle, he hit the guy so hard he knocked him out completely. He would read the offensive set and call out their play to his guy’s. Jimmy loves SMART players, 100% truth. Oh and now Mr. Thomas (my friend) is in the HOF. Yeah, Jimmy loves smart players. Simply the best

  • My dad was the biggest Oilers Fan and during this era of the Cowboys, I was slowly becoming a Cowboys Fan. I can say the 93 AFC Championship solidified it for me. My dad was just without a team when the Oilers for a few years. He packed up all his Oilers stuff and was without a team. He didn’t like the vibes of the U or those early 90s Cowboys. But, he met Jimmy Johnson in a hotel one night - just randomly. I’ll never forget.. he would always call home from work trips and he would have a lil buzz going, be a little more lively than normal. Anyway, he met Jimmy Johnson and he was the nicest, most down to earth guy and they talked about ball and mutual friends in college coaching and that’s what I know about Jimmy Johnson. He isn’t the kind of famous coach you could really like, meet only to learn he was an asshole. Jimmy Johnson is the kind of a guy you could really dislike, meet, and call home to tell your family what a nice guy he is.

  • You must admit it he knew how to pick the players and get the most out of them. It's obvious if Jimmy and Jerry could've kept things right together the Cowboy organization could may of certainly won more championships together and maybe more than anyone could match. The team was still young and had many more years together along with others to come. The proof is just looking at who from those teams have been inducted into the pro football HOF.

  • What made Jimmy great other than the Herschel Walker trade was picking players in the draft. That's what the Cowboys missed after Jimmy left. They couldn't get the right guys and the Cowboys fell further behind. Just look at what Jimmy drafted who became starters in the NFL and were big parts in their Super Bowl run. Darren Woodson, Kevin Smith, Larry Brown, Dixon Edwards, Robert Jones, Darren Smith, Alvin Harper, Erik Williams, Emmitt Smith, Moose Johnston. I can go on and on those guys were part of the 3 Super Bowl wins out of 4 years.

  • I imagine his players always had such respect for him and at this stage of life hold him in such high regard despite it being well established that he was an asshole most of the time and demanded so much from them all the time because he was simply up front and real all the time. Personally I’ll take someone who’s straight up all the time even if they’re a douche at times over somebody who pretends to be nice all the time but are full of shit and use protecting feelings as the excuse. At least if you have the true expectations and know where you stand you have a genuine chance to succeed and if do fall short knowing precisely what was expected then you can accept that things not working out and be able to take ownership of your role in things and know how to have a better chance to succeed in the future. So having a coach who will say the unpopular reality straight up you can interact with them better because you don’t have to be paranoid or play a guessing game. If a coach is simply real with you about how things work it may be hard to hear but you can at least know that what they tell you you can trust and proceed accordingly. Even something as simple as him talking about his scale of where players stand and how where a player sits on that scale determines how they’ll be treated compared to another play who did the same thing and frankly saying that a player at the top of the scale will get away with something that a bottom of the scale player will get cut for. Obviously this is how the world has always worked and nobody is truly surprised to hear it but a coach actually cutting a bottom of his scale player for something and then straight up saying that if it were Troy nothing would happen is refreshing since there are so many authority figures out there that if asked will pretend like they’d handle it the same way for every person even though nobody would ever believe that to be true. And if we’re honest about it most of us would never actually find that a good idea to operate in a way that your rules are the most important thing and that applying them equally to all is important enough that you’d cast aside the key factors of success to operate a perceived morality. And it’s crazy to see how opposite Jimmys approach is from Jerry. Jimmy would just tell you what’s up and you’d know where it’s all at while Jerry hopes on a radio show where he makes passive aggressive remarks or backhanded compliments about guys to pretend he isn’t doing what he ends up doing. If you were coaching a team and Jimmy was your GM he’d be real with you and if you were entering your final contract year he’d tell you that your future depends on how the season goes and you would coach the season knowing what you need to do and what happens if you don’t while Jerry sends out a press release about how great you’ve done and how thrilled he is with you yet has you enter your final year which paints a clear picture that what he says isn’t true otherwise he’d extend you. And then the public chirps since they know it’s BS whereas if they just shared the truth the public would get it and not take an issue.

Jimmy Johnson was talking to other teams to learn more about Charles Haley and what he did in San Francisco personnel which were horrendous btw. JJ didnt WANT that guy on the Dallas Cowboys and OPENLY SAID HE DIDNT WANT HIM. It was Jones, who LOVED pulling out the GM & OWNER card, who superseded Johnson- overruled whatever JJ screamed and made the trade for Charles. So much so, Jimmy didnt speak to Jerry for about a week and Jones personally pick picked up Haley at the airport and took care of him. FACTS. Jimmy never wanted him but now tells Belichick he made the trade for Haley??? Utter BULLSHIT.
