  • Extremely unfair of Ryan to b so impatient with various buttons and features of the vehicle. He is not familiar with the vehicle at all, which is a press vehicle from LR. If he bothered to familiarise himself with how things worked before he drove the vehicle, he would have known how things work. Once u get familiar with the vehicle and use features a couple of times, u then know how it works. The Defender is obviously a brilliant vehicle that has comfort, features, tech, safety, and a great daily driver, that is also hugely capable off road. Obviously u would option the vehicle to suit ur requirements, and fit proper off road tyres to give it heaps more ability off road. Great achievement. Well done LR. 👍👍

    • You should be able to intuitively use the vehicle out the box tho...

      @90FirstGenPGT@90FirstGenPGT3 жыл бұрын
    • JoshuaM U clearly have NFI. There r so many gadgets in a modern vehicle, it is generally not very intuitive at all. Particularly when many things can only b done via menus, and sub menus etc on the multi function displays etc etc. U really do need to study / find out how things operate / function before u start driving the vehicle. Very dangerous to do this whilst driving an unfamiliar car, as ur eyes r off the road for ages etc and u r not watching the road whilst u scroll through various menu screens. Most new cars have this issue...

      @StephenFogarty2023@StephenFogarty20233 жыл бұрын
    • @@StephenFogarty2023 exactly why complicated systems should not be complicated. Im just speaking on general terms really. Vehicles should be intuitive out of the box. Even though you get to know its functionality, you're still taking your eyes off the road to press many buttons to do one thing. No need to bash me. Im assuming "NFI"is "no fucking intuituon" and clearly you're offended for no reason. And if im wrong then no big deal... move on.

      @90FirstGenPGT@90FirstGenPGT3 жыл бұрын
    • The vehicle is far too complicated for serious off readers. ARB doesn’t even make after marker accessories for this vehicle because JLR are becoming like Apple. If you for stuck somewhere with this, barely anyone would be able to get it fixed unlike with a Toyota, Gelandewagen or a classic Defender.

    • The Kia Sou... Sorry, the Def was sitting there on the body so simple pulling wouldn't help. As someone has already mentioned above this situation required a kinetic energy rope to literally jerk the Def out of that pit. Though imho they could try it with the available one, sometimes even a little impulse helps.

  • Sport mode is on the gear shifter with the S icon, Put the car into drive and then slide the gearshift left into the S position, you can then change gear manually (push up up or down) or when fitted as an option with the flappy paddles on the steering wheel, but remember it is a 2ton off-roader not a Porsche bit still, it is surprisingly quicker than the older model. Also, its a press vehicle, it has the standard 20’ rims with all terrain tyres, if you went for the 19” rims you can go upto 33” off road tyres.. 18’ rims can only go on some of the models due to differing brake caliper sizes. And there is an optional winch which was not fitted to this model,

  • In the heydays, the tyres were neither broad nor radial(they were tall and stiff), so even though they got buried in sand, they always found the ground beneath the mud, so never got stuck in mud, unless your vehicle ran aground because of its low departure angle or ground clearance. I wonder if you'd have been able to claw your way up, had you just deflated the tyres? Or would that have caused the vehicle to run aground at the belly? Back in the 1980s, while on a duck-shoot, I got stuck in very shallow marshes with an Isuzu Trooper because it had these massive Desert Dueler sand tyres, and it had to be towed out by a tiny Suzuki jeep, just because its tyres were narrow enough to cut through sand and the tyres and the vehicle were high enough for it to not run aground at the belly.

  • I have to admit, Land Rovers Discovery is an awesome off road performer, they did good! BUT... I just can’t get past the poor reliability issue. And an 8,200 pound tow rating is also excellent... if it didn’t VOID your warranty. Land Rover is a love hate relationship, I loved my Range Rover, drove nice, looked great, and very respectable off road... but in less than 2 years it had about 3 tows, 20 repairs including not so minor 2 transmission replacements, 1 transmission repair, a dozen electrical issues, and had the alternator replaced twice, starter once, and several suspension component failures. The kicker was when the transmission failed and the dealership brought out the manual which clearly stated “NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING.” As well as “NOT RECOMMENDED FOR OFF-PAVEMENT USE.” (Both of which I was guilty of.) It took three weeks and my lawyer to convince them they should pay for the transmission replacement. I sold it and never looked back. The worst part is the existing reports of Defender reliability show so many issues... Land Rover has clearly not improved at all.

  • I don't pay much attention to the price or the looks, but I want a vehicle that is capable and reliable and not terribly uncomfortable. Automatic all-wheel-independent traction control and suspension are what really matter. The other thing would the be the angles of departures and arrivals and inclines. It also helps if one can inflate and deflate the tyres, while one's on the move. I don't care much for horsepower, but torque does help with off-road performance. I've generally preferred diesel engines for their torque and fording ability. During the 1980's, I mostly used Land Rovers Defenders(those were the only kind then, although there were Range Rovers), Toyota Land Cruisers, Nissan Patrols and Isuzu Troopers, with the differential locks, but without turbo engines. Do the turbos work well in sandy and dusty conditions or do the filters clog up? Of course, 6X6 vehicles aren't easy to run aground over humps and ridges, but which one of the 4X4 vehicles, in your opinion, are the most capable, reliable, and durable with the least systems that can malfunction, fail, or clog up? I don't care about the number of systems or their complexity, provided they don't fail that is why I would generally favor Mercedes, Land Rover and, perhaps, even Land Cruiser over others. Hummer, of course, is a monster, but too broad for cramped streets. This is a crossover, so it does help to lower the suspension for a lower center of gravity when cornering over the highway.

  • 0:41 As Hamster said, the new Defender looks more like a Disco than the new Discos or words to that affect? I agree. Thankfully the new Defender should result in older Defenders depreciating less too? The new Disco looks like the Range Rover Evoque too. Very timid Land Rover design person.

  • For me, I'm questioning why the off-road car and the highway cruiser needs to be the same car. I might be naive, but for that price, could you not get two cars that would each be as good or better than the Land Rover at cruising and offroading?

  • Want to do exactly this with my wife, in Northern California, Oregon, Washington State, Canada, and the Smokey Mountains. My legs are not currently in any condition to walk anywhere, don’t know if they will ever be. If she were my wife, would want her to love this stuff just like me. Splitting the driving time. Enjoying one another, and beautiful world God created. Staying in remote cabins here and there, and sometimes positioning the back of the vehicle for a beautiful sunset view, talking all night. Then sleeping together on a special mattress fitted specifically for the back of the Defender.
