Never ask for a "darker" version of anything. Movie producers and writers nowadays think that means "make it look like riverdale"
i’d love some brothers grimm versions of lots of fairy tales but i don’t trust today’s producers
We share the same thought! That's what I think about "Power Rangers" (2017 movie) and "Fate the Winx Saga". Both productions are so Riverdale-lized.
The greatest "darker" or, better said "Grimmer" version of Snow White (but in a well-done way, not a Netflix-way), is"Snow White A Tale of Terror". It is beautifully made, my second favourite Snow White after Disney's.
@@rockerdude8289 except the power rangers movie was incredible tho
Snow White a tale of terror is actually one of my favorites
Fun fact, Snow White used to have the shortest hair of any Disney princess but her record was beaten by Rapunzel who also holds the record for the longest hair!

And it's all thanks to Eugene 😂

Fun fact: For Red Shoes and The Seven Dwarves, the whole fat= ugly thing wasn’t in the original Korean advertisement it was the American translation that messed everything up and gave the movie a bad name. Edit: I saw the movie trust me the movie is amazing and promotes a beautiful message of self love
It really is a shame, since the movie is actually amazing

In the original story the prince actually doesn't kiss snow white in the glass coffin. He takes the coffin with him and the servants stumble which shakes the coffin, so that the apple piece in snow white's throat gets out.
That’s right, Disney borrowed the end from Sleeping Beauty, not knowing at the time they would one day adapt it as well, Walt wasn’t even planning on more fairytales until the studio faced bankruptcy and they had to make Cinderella. Sleeping Beauty came out 22 years after Snow White. So it’s funny how the true loves kiss that’s often mocked these days became a trope even thought it’s not actually in fairytales. Little Mermaid isn’t actually a traditional fairytale since Hans Christian Andersen wrote it in 19th century it instead of it being a oral folk tale. And there the kiss doesn’t happen even though she does try (and in the tale she doesn’t end up with the prince either). Later after everyone else used or subverted or mocked the kiss trope Disney itself subverted it with Enchanted and Frozen. But it was never a stable in fairytales or Disney the way people think it is.
I like this ending better
Holy crap WHAT?? I have been into original stories for god knows how long and I haven’t heard this one yet. This is pretty cool ngl
What was he planning to do with it?!
@@Salmy3 she was so beautiful that he wanted to take her back to the castle, because it was a shame to leave her there in the forest 😆
Those who call Disneys snow white a damsel in distress are wrong. She has had to survive abuse from her stepmom, almost being killed, running away and being alone, as well as spending some of th time as a slave. For a princess that is scary and Snow white always did it in the best way, being kind and graceful to everyone. She will forever be an icon to me both then as a child and now. As a child she was like my best friend who I want to spend lots of adventures with her if only there was a sequel.
Not to mention that she is a literal child, being the youngest of the Disney Princesses she really went through hell in this movie despite doing absolutely nothing wrong, one really can't avoid feeling bad for her after watching this movie
And she was 14, what could she have possibly done?
It's a story of how kindness can selflessness can prevail.
Try telling that to all of the Frozen fans who hate on the previous princesses and say Elsa was the very first to do everything.
Disney's snow white was pure , she worked hard and made her dreams come true. Absolutely beautiful. The prince was barely mentioned. She created her destiny.

The Prince in Snow White was intended to have a huge action scene where he escapes from the Queen’s dungeons. However, the animators were not as effective at drawing males, so the plans were scrapped. It wasn’t until Sleeping Beauty that the animators got a good enough grasp on drawing men to have them take part in a heroic climax (in that case, the battle with the dragon).
Relatable

....ima hop on this Relatable drawing men is hard XD
I wish we could've seen how that would've looked, and see how it would've affected Sleeping Beauty.
I think mirror mirror, has my favorite versions of her dress, hands-down. Actually wardrobe in the whole movie for everybody.
In Disney’s version: The reason there were not more interactions with the prince was that he was difficult to animate. A goofy cartoon make face was easier for them than a realistic handsome face. They had originally had more of a story that they recycled for Sleeping Beauty.
I think the evil queen being motivated by pure jealousy is actually not a bad trope. It's very simplistic, yes, but jealousy is an emotion any person and child can relate to. So even if as a character that doesn't give you much to work with, you easily see yourself in the queen.
People want to say it’s problematic. But isn’t jealousy an actual emotion? An actual problem? Something we can feel to great extent? Like are we just gonna pretend it has not been the cause for murder or violence? Especially when it comes to competition. (Hey Tonya Harding how are you and your Huntsman doing!)
@@romeostruedude How is it problematic? Jealousy is a real thing that many people experience, I mean there is literally real life cases where people have murdered each other out of jealousy, like its a very real thing. Honestly I'm so over this generation and just this whole culture we live in, they want to label that everything is problematic and its irritiating.

i always like mirror mirror. it’s something so different, i loved it.
Yeah, I wish more of the Disney live actions would take after it, it’s such a fun take on the story, even though it’s not perfect. The costumes are also amazing and super creative.
I loved it
Love mirror mirror, but all of armie hammer’s performances creep me out a lil, the cannibalism thing didn’t help lol
Bad movie, great costumes.
And Lily is a beautiful Snow White.
I really liked OUAT Snow White's wardrobe. I've always really liked depictions of the character in whites as it's what makes the most sense to me and OUAT had her in whites quite often, as well as creams and light browns. I really liked her practical but still feminine outfits she'd wear as a sort of middle ground between the elaborate gowns and the bandit furs. Her wardrobe actually greatly inspired the design of an OC of mine.
The big point of Red Shoes kiss scenes are also the fact that the first kiss is with the shoes on, and the last one that broke the curse was without the magic of the shoes. I think that was my favorite part of the movie.
really love how red shoes doesn't degrade her original appearance nor what she looks like when she wears the shoes, but is still aware that more people would be willing to help her if she was conventionally attractive. it shows that you don't have to look a certain way to be beautiful and that you don't necessarily have to be naive to be kind
Yeah I just watched it the other week for the first time because I wanted to see if it was as problematic as they advertised it. And I loooooved the movie, legit one of my favorite animated movies XDD I love the idea and I love like you said that that don’t degrade ether of her appearances and see strength in both of them, and I love that they didn’t make her unhappy with herself before she got the shoes! No absolute *chefs kiss* 👌🏻👌🏻
I really love it too. I was looking for this comment
I absolutely love this movie but I was surprised that the songs from it weren’t mentioned, they are some of my go to empowerment songs!!
Not only that-she LOVED her appearance. She loved that she took after her dad, loved her strength, and was at her most comfortable in her original-true-appearance! She even says “this is me!” in relief taking off the shoes the first night she stays with the dwarves. She never wanted to change her appearance-she just used the shoes as a tool because her main goal was always finding her father 🥺
I loved it so much because it really helped me alot

The Prince wasn't an actual character, he is more of a symbol for good things will come to those who are patient and kind. The prince kissing Snow wasn't a rescue, it was Snow receiving what she deserved, her happy ending.
i love this take
thats so cool!!
Hard agree!
the princess awakens the princes fierce side - makes him grow up and take action and so does the prince to the princesse. The point in fairytales is growing up, and your opposite gender will wake u up, and make u grow up, to start take action. Fairy tales are all about that, i hate it when people keep on saying its sexist that the prince rescues the princesse, itsnot, its not the point - the princesse did rescue the prince just as much: rescued him from not growing up
THANK YOU! Finally someone understands that this story is just that, a story.
I think Snow White is the most misunderstood Disney Princess. What I feel like a lot of people don’t get is that she’s a victim of abuse and she remains kind and selfless in the face of peril. It was her kindness that motivates the dwarves into become better people. Additionally, she never once talk smack about their appearance. She treats them as individuals and they protect and care for her in return. I think that we need more people like Snow White in the world. She’s a good role model because it’s her kindness and inner beauty that makes her the fairest of them all. She just happens to be a reflection of the 30s in terms of her role and portrayal in the Disney version. Fairy tales won’t hurt people, so calm down. Edit: Why is saying Snow White is a good role model such a controversial statement?
The 30s version is not strong
How letting them be passive
@@PrincessMavenKittyDarkholme Snow White is strong through her being kind to others and remaining optimistic in spite of one’s circumstances. While she doesn’t have the most complex personality, Snow White really does not deserve all the hate she gets. :/

When I was a kid I LOVED "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" with Kristin Kreuk. I thought it had an interesting aesthetic, music and just a more "mystical" feel. Not the best movie ever, but I thought that the cast made it good and it was beautiful to look at. Kristin Kreuk was so breathtakingly beautiful in that role! Not an amazing film, but I have a nostalgic attachment to it
Same! It's got such a unique aesthetic and Kristen Kreuk was so pretty, and Miranda Richardson was amazing.
Can't count how many times I watched her version. ❤
100% agree I found it more interesting than Disneys tbh and I loved the casting choice of Kristin Kreuk for Snow White, she's beautiful.
But isn't it abjectly offensive for Snow White to be someone of mixed heritage? Kruek was part Chinese! How can that be tolerated?!
OUATs is my favorite, she has the perfect round and gentle face to complete the look of one of, if not the youngest Disney princess with the perfect balance of storybook gentle princess and willingness to do whatever she had to in order to protect what she loves
the backstory of snow white and the evil queen in once upon a time is honestly so genius. it makes it completely understandable why regina would want snow dead and why it would make her turn evil while also not making snow white the “bad guy” or having her do something out of character or not snow white-like. if you haven’t seen it, all 7 seasons are on disney+!
It also shows that altho snow was a little bratty when her mom was alive, she learned from her to be kind and she was always kind to Regina. And that Regina actually liked Snow until she made the mistake to trust Cora. I also love Regina's redemption arc.
That show was so good! Unfortunately the show got milked in the later seasons and kinda ruined it
@@dangalvan2484 also that snow’s mom was pretty bratty, by ratting on Cora and probably learning better after she had snow
I always thought it was a bit stupid. I mean Snow White wasn’t at fault for Reginas boyfriends death it was Cora. To the point in original Snow White with the prince not seeing her during the film, makes sense because Snow White was in hiding from the queen and not wanting to be found.
I think the Disney movie deserves a lot of praise just because of the fact that it's going to be a hundred years old in less than 20 years and still looks visually fantastic.

I think that for the upcoming Disney adaptation, they should cast a fresh new unknown actress. That way we won't compare the actress to her previous roles, and she can really embody Snow White.
I think they should cast Anya Taylor-Joy. I’ve observed some of her known previous work like Split, The Witch, Emma, and Marrowbone and I honestly think that she has the right amount of versatility to play Snow White whilst adding some modern day nuance to the tale. There was one detail missed out: In the original story, the prince charming had in fact not kissed Snow White but he traded her supposed 'dead body' for taking good care of the dwarves in the castle for the rest of their lives. As Snow White's glass coffin was being carried away, one of the servants carrying it slipped and fell, dislodging the piece of poisoned apple from her throat Edit: Thanks alot for the likes!

Snow, from Once is my fav, because she is snow white irl and married her prince charming co star. Plus she was the most well rounded version imo. She went through every possible arch a character could and came out better for it in the end and still true to her self.
I understand the mistake she made as a child that made Regina hate her, but I still can't forgive her for what she did to Malificent's child. That's just wrong.

There's just not enough talk or recognition for Once Upon A Time's Snow White. We saw more of her character; as Snow White and Mary Margret. We saw her as a princess, a wife, a mother, grandmother, and a badass hero/leader. She struggled with darkness and was the embodiment of true love. What's best about this Snow White was that she was not perfect, but she was so human.
Right?
Can we appreciate how adorable Ginny is?
She also struggled with the guilt of giving up Emma and, after Emma breaks the curse, having a relationship with her because she knew everything Emma went through and how horrible that was for Emma. It took Emma time to accept her parents, where she came from, her role as the savior, sheriff, and mother herself..then eventually found true love with Killian and a friendship with Regina. Yes season one had the best story line and I love the darker tone! There were other good ones but I found the plot wasn't as enjoyable overall in later seasons
@@roseolena7765 after season 3, it should have ended.
Agreed! They planned the HELL out of it and it all works so well
yess i loved season 1
on pOint! also, how did we forget that Christian Grey is the Huntsman in the series
red shoes was amazing but the marketing was so bad it didn’t do as well as it deserved to 😭 p.s. merlin and red shoes are so cute
Amen! 😭👏
Mhmm it was the marketing that did it dirty I tell ya, such a shame. I legit love that film not just for red shoes and Merlin but also for the comedy and action.
OR, maybe they did it on purpose so when people (who judged the film) watch the movie, they will think 'why did I think THIS film is about fat shaming?'
@@yuri-tang7885 but it didn’t work out and it lost money😢 such a shame

My family actually really liked "Fairest of them all" - we watched that one a lot. :) It might have been low budget, but it did try to be creative. Kirsten Kreuk's acting was stiff as always, but for Snow White it seemed to actually work well.
I loved this movie when i was little, I thought she was so so beautiful as a child, looking back at it her acting is quite wooden, but it gives her this strange, haunted regal vibe that i kind of like.
I know this sounds strange, but Disney's Snow White and the seven dwarfs is actually my favorite disney movie. It just looks so aesthetically pleasing and it has a nice feeling to it in my opinion.
Mine too.
Disney's dress design for Snow White is probably my favorite Princess dress in Disney. It's got so much detail and and I love that it's multicolored. Hardly any of the princesses get dresses like that anymore.
Cinderella's dress that she got from her mom was multicolored, but Drizella and Anastasia made sure it was never meant to be.
@@Igorcastrochucre I really liked both of Cinderella's gowns. It's always interesting to see the dresses that get featured briefly in the films get attention. I loved when Disney released designer dolls of Cinderella's pink gown and made it in a set with Lady Tremaine and had the dress intact on one side with the other side having a ripped edge on the skirt and torn ribbon on the front; but with intricate detailing on the skirt (also Lady Tremaine's ballgown was given detail). The one they made with Snow White's scullery maid outfit is the doll I'd love to some day own more than any other one since it's so detailed and beautiful. (It's called Wishing Well Snow White). And I think my favorite Tiana dress is her light blue one and she only wears it for a few short minutes before turning into the frog version.
Yeah, most princesses just get a random color and then a random silluete to accompany it. But Snow White has multiple colors and it really makes her pop out
Although I’m not a fan of the classical princesses I prefer the dresses of the classical princesses like Cinderella, Snow White and Aurora. They were the ultimate traditional princess look
mulan did in her asian housewife dress
i love how snow white is in full beauty guru makeup even when the queen dressed her like a peasant
@Inés Lázaro De la Garza "i'm gonna turn you into a peasant cause i HATE YOU. oh you can keep your james charles pallette if you want sweetie."
@Inés Lázaro De la Garza That would explain why even her peasant chlothes dont look that bad.
Well, maybe she isn't really wearing makeup. In the story it says she's born with her lips naturally that red, so she probably isn't wearing lipstick or anything. And then some eyelids can have the appearance of having eyeshadow on
@Inés Lázaro De la Garza i love how we were being sarcastic and some people be acting like we is dumb or sumth like sir i know she aint born with her makeup, like kylie jenner she fought it four years ago, simple.
@Inés Lázaro De la Garza I am a girl and my eyelids have the appearance of having eyeshadow on. It's from the eye shape causing a shadow and depending on the skin tone it could be gray. It's a pretty simple thing
Thank so much for adding Mirror Mirror ! I had never ever seen anyone mention it. It was the only Snow White live action Snow White adaption I ever saw growing up so it is my favorite.
Omg!!! So glad to see someone mention Happily Ever After. It's one of those movies that when I talk about it people look at me like I'm crazy and made it up. Used to watch it over and over when I was a kid.
Fun fact, originally the Huntsman was supposed to cut out Snow White's heart and lungs so the Evil Queen could eat them.
what 👁️👄👁️
thats not fun...
munch munch i guess.
Yup and in most versions he brings back a pig heart and she eats it. In the 2001 adaptation the queen secretly feeds it to the prince, thinking she's making him cannibalize Snow White 💀
"fun" fact......
Until today I thought that Happily Ever After was a fever dream I’d had in 1997 while my mother was in labor with my little brother...
WHAT THE FU-
Lmao I thought it said you were in labor and watched this movie????
@@catherinepoteat haha I was definitely not in labor in 1997. I was also 6 years old🤣
I finally sat down and watched Red Shoes and the movie turned out to be really cute! I loved the message and I like the animation.
I’m actually glad you put in some lesser known ones I like for one reason or another, I actually grew up watching the Happily Ever After version more than the Disney version because we had it on VHS
I've heard that the reason the prince in Disney's snow white was such a bland wet blanket is because they couldn't animate all the things they wanted him to do at the time. Philip's plotline in sleeping beauty is apparently recycled from the original plot for Prince charming in snow white.
Yeah, heard the same thing. Something about male anatomy being harder to animate than female anatomy. Strangely, it seems the opposite is true when it comes to animating faces.
I would love to see Disney do a parallel movie which depicts Prince Florian as he realizes Snow White is missing and his quest to find her.
disney was almost bankrupted before this did this movie.
Mirror Mirror is a more funnier take on the Snow White story. It made it more interesting and gave Snow White a personality
Snow white had a personality before too.
She already had a personality. Go watch There Will Be Fudds video on the 1939 one. Go watch Red Shoes where shes sarcastic and self assured and funny without being campy about it. I love Mirror Mirror too, but it doesnt hold up imo (and the one of two awfully tasteless jokes bring the movie down SO much)
I think it could have been the best adaptation if they kept all the characters funny. The whole premise of the original story is hard to take seriously, so a dark comedy would be the best option tbh.

AGREE. I LOVE MIRROR MIRROR SO BAD
I’m so happy you included my two favorite Snow White movies, Tale of Terror and Happily Ever After!
I've just remembered Happily ever after!!! The animation, some of the characters, the dragon!!!! OMG thank you for puting it on the list!
I’m absolutely obsessed with mirror mirror. The casting, the exaggerated costume omfg amazing.

UGH YEEEESS I watch it eevery year, the cast is perfect the actress who played snow white was really the perfect casting and the scenes were just really funny and cool plus it's so aesthetically pleasing sksksk I wanna watch it again today lol
Dude, I actually just watched red shoes and the seven dwarves and I freaking love it! My favorite part is how she's not just 'fat', she's a healthy person who happens to love food AND she's very strong without being the idea for a 'strong' person.
Where'd you watch it?? It's getting such high praise in the comments, I really want to find somewhere I can watch for free!!
@@sophie427 go on the soap2day website!!
@@sophie427 My library had a DVD copy of it. I love the premise. The script was a little cringey, especially at the beginning of the movie. Had it had a better writer this would have been an excellent film. As it is it's just okay with an interesting and unique premise.
And the best part is she loves herself even though she knows people treat different sized people differently ❤️
It's also important to realize that obesity does lead to a wealth of health problems though, and this is coming from an obese person.
Happily ever after was my childhood, THANK YOU for adding it to this list
first off- great video! I also would love to add that one of my favorite things about this part of KZhead (the hard working, very talented, fashion commentary part) is so supportive towards one another! Its so fun to watch and definitely makes it a lot more educational that way! love that!
I'm really glad you ranked Red Shoes so high! I saw the original "fat-shaming" trailers for that film and was intrigued by it nonetheless, because even if it was suggesting an iffy message, it was a new take on Snow White's story. So when I watched it, I was really pleasantly surprised. Red Shoes is such a good character, I love that her first thought upon putting the shoes on and becoming "more beautiful" isn't that she's prettier, it's that "hey, where're my muscles??" Her fat form also has more muscle mass and she's genuinely STRONG, both physically and mentally and I love that about her. Also I lowkey had a crush on Merlin so that made me happy
Yes Merlin simps stand together
And the character development...mwah😍
also really love how she doesn't degrade her original appearance nor what she looks like when she wears the red shoes, but is still aware that more people would be willing to help her if she was conventionally attractive. it shows that you don't have to look a certain way to be beautiful and that you don't necessarily have to be naive to be kind
It was so sweet and refreshing. I loved it.
OUAT deserves more love for how they portrayed Snow White. She's kind, compassionate, and puts others first ahead of herself. But like every rose she has thorns, she's tough and isn't afraid to get dirty to achieve her goals. Snow also isn't perfect, she has flaws and knows it. I just love her character and Ginnifer Goodwin's performance so much.
I love that in OUAT eating the apple is not an oopsie on Snow's part. She knew it was poisoned and chose to sacrifice herself.
I hate Snow White. She tried to justify herself for stealing and nearly killing Maleficent's baby because the baby didn't want to turn out like Maleficent. I lost respect for her and Charming since then. In season 6/7, they already became annoying and too much "white savior complex" like Emma.
@@Valkyree8 that was a very low point for Snow and Charming.
@@Valkyree8 she a imperfect princess that’s what the writers wanted us to know
Your damn right she has flaws... Like how she placed darkness in Maleficent's baby just to save her own 😃. Idc if she thought it was a dragon. Also she's said awful things to Regina in some episodes. The fact she isn't perfect makes her tolerable and respectable to a degree(to a depression because I lost respect for her with Maleficent's baby). The og snow white was such an angel but she didn't have any flaws and she wasn't my favorite and at times she annoyed me
I loved happily ever after when I was little, playing it on vhs all the time and I loved the music! Awesome to see someone else talk about it.
Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was a literal masterpiece. It was art in motion and is one of the few representations of kind woman that still is popular today. It was a staple in film history and it honestly breaks my heart that they are creating a live action. Snow White was special and beautiful and continues to be one of my favorite films of all time.
Try telling that to all of the Frozen fans who hate on the previous princesses and say Elsa was the very first to do everything.
So, .. no love for any of the Snow White movies discussed in this video?
Can I be honest I would absolutely love to see you do a ranking of all the Romeo and Juliet movies 😗🤭
ooh yes!
only if gnomeo and juliet is number 1!😤
I was asking the same think yesss

I like how in snow white: a tale of terror is closely similar to the original tale. Like how there was three attempts and that the apple was lodged in her throat.
Yes! Me too! I loved Segourney Weaver as the evil Queen. She was just too perfect. (And it got rid of the problematic kiss in such a clever way)
it makes more sense
I love that you mentioned the opening storybook in the Disney Snow White. I do love when the Disney movies did that.
Happily Ever After is one of those movies i was half-sure i had imagined, and to be reminded of it decades later is a real trip
Once Upon A Time will always be my guilty pleasure. Regina and her costumes helped me.......realize some things about myself.......

I LOVE Happily Ever After! One of those movies you remember fondly from childhood that doesn't disappoint when you rewatch as an adult.
OUAT Snow white was another level! She had depth , she made mistakes she grew as a person And she fought to help people and inspired others.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Loved her. Such a shame that her character (and the show) went dowhills after seasons 3/4
Just watch OUAT and shes the best Version, period
Honestly, Snow White is one of my favourite Disney movies and princesses, she's so misunderstood. I like that her character is based on kindness and being caring. She's also unapologetically feminine and sweet, she's hard working, and not as bland and personalityless (not a word but you get it) as people think, like when she's cleaning with the dwarves, she bosses them around and takes no shit. She's very unique among the princesses, and I'm kinda over the whole spiel of "to be a strong woman, you need brute force", she literally takes control over her circumstances and makes the best out of it, never feeling sorry for herself. She is also very kind to the dwarves and doesn't judge their appearance ever, she's amazing and I will always defend her!
I think the words your looking for is devoid of personality. But other than that I completely agree. I think people take kindness for granted see it as a sign of weakness rather than strength. As much as I adore the modern princesses for their bravery and courage, I think it’d be nice to see a princess who exudes her kindness and compassion for others as a way to show young girls of another type of strength. Sadly, I doubt we’ll get such a movie as of right now since physical strength is what’s considered strength. One can dream though and perhaps we’ll get that movie.
@@thisisanuncreativeusername2745 That’s not true. Moanna does exactly that. The whole reason she defeats “the villain” is because of her empathy. Rapunzel showed selflessness when she risked her life to save Eugune. It was Anna’s love and compassion that allowed her to save Elsa. None of these princesses are known for how good they can fight. The only princess that are known for their physical prowess are Mulan and Merida.
@@PrincessLioness Moanna is...fine. But honestly, I think her character would have been stronger if she hadn't heard the "call of the sea" but instead decided to make the journey despite never intending to leave her island.
@@swanpride Now that you've said it and I thought it over, Moana as a character definitely would have improved for me. Her going to get Maui and return Te Fiti's (hope I'm spelling it right) heart not because it was 'her destiny' but because she knew something bad was happening and intended to stop it from getting horribly worse for everyone
@@PrincessLioness and even mulan and merida are more than that. Mulan risked her life and disguised herself as a man to protect her old and ill father. She is not known so much for her combat strenght as for her courage and loyalty and protectiveness to her loved ones. Merida just wanted to take control over her own life, her stronger point is her determination , but she also shows she is still a kid and needs her mother. She showed you can be strong and determined and still need your mom sometimes.
I haven't heard of most of the adaptations so thanks for sharing them.
as a kid i really adored Fairest of Them All. It felt so fantastical and horrific at the same time, as a classic fairytale should. The aesthetic was mesmerising and everything about it felt so wonderfully strange. It think it really captured how nonsensical and chaotic old school fairytales felt when reading them as a kid. Like, oh the prince turned into a bear, okay cool. The dwarves can travel via rainbow? Sure why not. Sometimes i feel peope try to make too much sense of these stories and overcomplicate them, and the magic and meaning gets lost along the way.
Mirror Mirror is always my favorite snow white, it was the first “ big girl “ movie my mom took me to when i was younger and i had its poster in my room for years :)
oh gosh, once upon a time too. i watched every season religiously and was regina for halloween in fifth grade😭😭( i’m 16 now lol )
*“It feels like fan fiction”* somehow this is *so* right!!
Can it be good fan fiction? lol. I personally love Sydney White, but I also agree with this comment. lol
Great summary and ranking of all these very different adaptations ! I wasn’t sure about Red Shoes, but now I definitely intend to give it a chance ! This reminds me, several years ago, I accidentally discovered an 90’s anime series called The Legend of Snow White. Even though it was clearly made for kids, I ended up binge-watching it with my sister, partly because it was pretty cute and imaginative, with all kinds of random fantasy elements… but mostly, we just couldn’t stop being ridiculously amused by the weird fact that the prince barely appeared at all, while most of the focus was on the youngest of the "dwarves" (here more like ageless gnomes) having this *massive* crush on SW and being a sassy brat about it. It was an interesting version for sure. 😆
Absolutely love Red Shoes and The Seven Dwarfs!
I absolutely adored Red Shoes and The Seven Dwarfs. Such beautiful animation, unique characters and an amazing message. The movie really encompasses its core message and if you haven't watched it yet I highly recommend you do

Red Shoes was actually really good. The animation is stellar and the characterization of Snow vs Merlin is done really well

Right! Love Ginny's take. Emma and Killian will always be my favorites though. I even cosplay Emma.
@hotdog water Killian. Neal/ Baelfire was toxic and hurt and traumatized Emma while Killian was faithful, loyal, and loving to her. No competition
@hotdog water it was more of a dramedy to me. Starting from season 2, the comedy and real adventure starts. I liked it until season 7
As a pre teen I was OBSESSED with it ( I’d be lying if I say I’m not anymore)
Mirror Mirror will ALWAYS be my favorite Snow White adaptation! The costumes are stunning, and I just love the entire storyline
Me too! I love Disney's and Red Shoes' too!
I love the prince. He has a character arc, funny moments, etc. Not just the guy that shows up a couple of times and it's the super awesome prince guy.
