    • That’s right, Disney borrowed the end from Sleeping Beauty, not knowing at the time they would one day adapt it as well, Walt wasn’t even planning on more fairytales until the studio faced bankruptcy and they had to make Cinderella. Sleeping Beauty came out 22 years after Snow White. So it’s funny how the true loves kiss that’s often mocked these days became a trope even thought it’s not actually in fairytales. Little Mermaid isn’t actually a traditional fairytale since Hans Christian Andersen wrote it in 19th century it instead of it being a oral folk tale. And there the kiss doesn’t happen even though she does try (and in the tale she doesn’t end up with the prince either). Later after everyone else used or subverted or mocked the kiss trope Disney itself subverted it with Enchanted and Frozen. But it was never a stable in fairytales or Disney the way people think it is.

  • Those who call Disneys snow white a damsel in distress are wrong. She has had to survive abuse from her stepmom, almost being killed, running away and being alone, as well as spending some of th time as a slave. For a princess that is scary and Snow white always did it in the best way, being kind and graceful to everyone. She will forever be an icon to me both then as a child and now. As a child she was like my best friend who I want to spend lots of adventures with her if only there was a sequel.

  • The Prince in Snow White was intended to have a huge action scene where he escapes from the Queen’s dungeons. However, the animators were not as effective at drawing males, so the plans were scrapped. It wasn’t until Sleeping Beauty that the animators got a good enough grasp on drawing men to have them take part in a heroic climax (in that case, the battle with the dragon).

  • I think the evil queen being motivated by pure jealousy is actually not a bad trope. It's very simplistic, yes, but jealousy is an emotion any person and child can relate to. So even if as a character that doesn't give you much to work with, you easily see yourself in the queen.

    @ghostlobster6631@ghostlobster66313 жыл бұрын

I've always really liked depictions of the character in whites as it's what makes the most sense to me and OUAT had her in whites quite often, as well as creams and light browns. Her wardrobe actually greatly inspired the design of an OC of mine.

  • I think Snow White is the most misunderstood Disney Princess. What I feel like a lot of people don’t get is that she’s a victim of abuse and she remains kind and selfless in the face of peril. It was her kindness that motivates the dwarves into become better people. Additionally, she never once talk smack about their appearance. She treats them as individuals and they protect and care for her in return. I think that we need more people like Snow White in the world. She’s a good role model because it’s her kindness and inner beauty that makes her the fairest of them all. She just happens to be a reflection of the 30s in terms of her role and portrayal in the Disney version. Fairy tales won’t hurt people, so calm down. • Honestly, Snow White is one of my favourite Disney movies and princesses, she's so misunderstood. I like that her character is based on kindness and being caring. She's also unapologetically feminine and sweet, she's hard working, and not as bland and personalityless (not a word but you get it) as people think, like when she's cleaning with the dwarves, she bosses them around and takes no shit. She's very unique among the princesses, and I'm kinda over the whole spiel of "to be a strong woman, you need brute force", she literally takes control over her circumstances and makes the best out of it, never feeling sorry for herself. She is also very kind to the dwarves and doesn't judge their appearance ever, she's amazing and I will always defend her!

    @Neliel97@Neliel973 жыл бұрын
    • I think the words your looking for is devoid of personality. But other than that I completely agree. I think people take kindness for granted see it as a sign of weakness rather than strength. As much as I adore the modern princesses for their bravery and courage, I think it’d be nice to see a princess who exudes her kindness and compassion for others as a way to show young girls of another type of strength. Sadly, I doubt we’ll get such a movie as of right now since physical strength is what’s considered strength. One can dream though and perhaps we’ll get that movie.

This reminds me, several years ago, I accidentally discovered an 90’s anime series called The Legend of Snow White. Even though it was clearly made for kids, I ended up binge-watching it with my sister, partly because it was pretty cute and imaginative, with all kinds of random fantasy elements… but mostly, we just couldn’t stop being ridiculously amused by the weird fact that the prince barely appeared at all, while most of the focus was on the youngest of the "dwarves" (here more like ageless gnomes) having this *massive* crush on SW and being a sassy brat about it. It was an interesting version for sure. 😆
