    • Yeah its about moving on to the next chapter. The LOB was one of the greatest defenses, on one of the best teams of all time. But every modern player has been living in the shadow of that including even a all time great like Bobby Wagner who was part of that. Just like every player was living in the shadow of great players like Alexander, Jones and Hasselbeck from the Holmgren regime. It implies you're the face now, its your turn to earn this wall space. Fans know that players involved in the organization in the past are and have always been welcomed as family (short of showing themselves the door like a Wilson situation) and many of those players are going to be in the ring of honor, representing in the Hall, or involved in the team in terms of media (Mack Strong). Noones gonna forget about them, the team certainly wont, its just important to let the next generation be themselves (which is why you give a 6 year contract to a coach, to give them a realistic set of comfort/opportunity). For me personally, it lightly bothers me. But I understand what the goal is. The message its intending to send.

I’m sure that there are plaques, books, pictures, trophy’s, etc. not to mention, we live in a digital age. Painting over a wall and letting your team create their own identity instead of chasing after former players’ identities isn’t “burying history”

  • Leonard Williams is an odd choice to get a player's perspective. He played in the old regime for less than a season. He probably doesn't have the same connection to Carroll or the players from the Superbowl era like other Seahawks would. What does someone like Tyler Lockett think? All of this is fine if Macdonald delivers. If he does, it's a brilliant motivational tactic. If he flops then this is stupid and disrespectful. As a Seattle fan my expectations are that Carroll won a Superbowl and lost a second and Mike Holmgren made it to the Superbowl. Aside from one season between those eras, that's the Seahawks of the 21st century so that's the standard. If you're going to paint over the wall to create a new wall, then there better be great stuff to paint on the new wall. Personally I wouldn't take this approach because it just gives people more ammo to crap on me if the team struggles but I'm not an NFL coach.

  • I love it. For the better part of a decade we had to watch players - especially defensive rookies - come in and fail miserably to live up to previous names. The Seahawks organization has tried to milk nostalgia for too long. We brought back Bobby Wagner on a failed attempt. We brought back Lynch for the last couple games of 2019 and it was ugly. People were even talking about bringing back Russell before the Steelers signed him. Let it go. Turn the page. No one's going to forget the Lombardi or the tip because they took down a few pictures on one wall.

  • At Rogers' Place in Edmonton where the Oilers play, it's hard to go long without being reminded by the history of the Edmonton Oilers, the last official NHL dynasty with 5 cups in 7 years. Two highways in Edmonton are named after the Oilers two biggest stars. It brings fans and players together to remember what we once were and that despite the decade of darkness we can believe that we lift the cup again. Painting over that history doesn't mean the Seahawks won't win a Super Bowl, but I do think by doing that you lose that added bonus and pride of who you're playing for. Now you for those players, they're just a part of an NFL team in Seattle, not a Seattle NFL team that won the Super Bowl.

As not to put pressure on these new softer players, they just bury legacy of the men before them. You will never see a Ronnie Lott, Lyle Alzado, Lawerence Taylor in this game ever again, simply because the new guys aren't built tough like that anymore and the league has taken all the traits we loved about football out of the game. No big hits, no tough defenses, not letting corners fight for the ball etc. Todays game simply looks like an x box video game, sterile and washed out.
