@@seams4186 the title says that the video is from 2011, which is 12 years ago and if we search on google the age of khabib it says he's 34 and islam 31 years old which means that (if im correct) khabib was 22 years old and islam was 19 years old in this video. Great and humble men, I really look up to their humbleness and greatness as a 17year old young man who's also trying to make something of his life.

He may have sparred the best, but he still needed a signature win against top talent to make a claim for being the lightweight in the world. Just look at Gilbert Vs Chimaev as an example of stepping up and fighting at the top of the division instead of smashing lowered ranked fighters (Hooker, Green). It's not as easy to run through the top 5 of a division which is what I wanted to see Islam fight for the past year. Dariush vs Islam would have been the PERFECT title eliminator for both men. It's not Islam's fault either, fighters were definitely ducking him. In the end Islam did stake his claim as the best, but nobody gets points based off who they spar with.

Two best friend from the same village both become world champion, the odd perhaps like winning a lottery. Whatever Abdulmanap taught them it works. Abdulmanap legacy is not necessarily about superior technique, its more about 'team culture'. The atmosphere in this team is very unique.
they are not from the same village. Islam is from a village that is very far from Khabib's. Islam is from Burshi and Khabib is from Sildi. They met and became best friends due to training together since Mackhachev being very talented was sent to Abdulmanap's camp.
This is the myth that it’s culture over technique. Technique wins at the top level where lost guys have extremely similar mindsets and physical ability. Simple

They reminds each other when one of them lack on discipline, getting lazy, lack of focus, and so on. To stay competitive at the top this team culture is very important. It set the mood when practicing everyday because you surrounded by people with the same mindset, champion mindset. It boost moral in fight because you are not fight only for yourself, but for all your team, because they have gone all out to support you. And this is what I think the biggest legacy that Abdulmanap left for Khabib team.

I think this is partly why he is so good at controlling his opponent with his legs and head, sparring with boxing gloves means you can't get any hand grips and have to rely on head leverage and your legs much more to control your opponent when grappling.

They must have done that only occasionally for a specific purpose or when it was convenient. I think it might have helped but it’s like the gi vs no gi argument. Sure training gi will help you get better given you have to get past the grips and build some skills given the handicap compared to gi. In the same way doing this with mainly MMA gloves (the closest direct match) would probably be superior to training like this alone, but maybe 80/20 MMA/Boxing gloves GNP training would be a good balance and help you so i think your right but maybe it’s a bit overstatedZ
