  • I had to get a bus home to watch this match, but there was only one seat left on the bus, so I shoved everybody out of the way and managed to get on. I put it all down to my queue action.

  • All part of his game, his package. He knows he's right in contention. Ronnie deliberately talks himself down to piss off/annoy/distract other players and/or the media. He's a clever chap.

    @rossedwards7560@rossedwards75603 жыл бұрын
    • @tigerarmyrule it's really not weird though. He's done you as well. He creates a cloud of smoke. If he was really honest about what he was feeling it would completely ruin his whole package, he'd be undone. He complains, whines, moans and creates smokescreens to give the media something to talk about. Given he's won 35(?) ranking tournaments I think he's done a rather good job.

      @rossedwards7560@rossedwards75603 жыл бұрын
    • Have you ever considered he talks himself down to take the pressure off HIMSELF. I doubt he really cares too much about what other players/media think. It's simplifying the goal and prevents over thinking. Works well for him and we get to see genius in action. Win win for all. 😁

  • It seems that a little perspective is needed here. Firstly, congratulations to both players on a gritty, hard-fought, see-sawing match. A battle of titans if ever there was one. Very different players, but both masters of their craft. I would add that if one could combine the very best of what Selby and O'Sullivan bring to the game into one snooker player, then that player would be unbeatable. But what is this nonsense about Ronnie's "bizarre" post-match interview? To anyone who has followed his career and watched his interviews for even a short time, that was just standard Ronnie fare. Tongue-in-cheek all the way. The man is not obligated to give pat answers to mind-numbingly boring questions by the hypocrites in the snooker media. Nor does he have to incorporate any particular style of play in his matches, as approved by superannuated commentators, his opponents or the public at large. I respect Mark Selby enormously and am a huge fan of his talent and his incomparable grit and tactical prowess. But his remarks concerning Ronnie's supposed disrespect to him and to the game are unwarranted, as well as showing him up as a seriously bad loser. In all his interviews, Ronnie has had nothing but the highest praise for Mark's abilities, his skill, focus and determination. So, O'Sullivan decided to play a few hit and hope shots during his match. The question on the table is: So what?? Is a little gamesmanship a new concept to all these armchair experts? Or is it something only available to every other snooker player who ever lived, but NOT to Ronnie, lest he cops yet more criticism from the chattering classes? The man has done more for snooker, its profile and popularity in England and around the world than most other players combined, a fact readily attested to by the snooker pundits. How quickly they forget...

  • 3:05 - Had me in fits of laughter, as Walker suggests snooker is all about stories, and Ron raises his finger and pronounces: " I don't believe it is! It's about the cue actions. I'm not buying into these stories, world titles...". Some of the best deflection you'll ever see in controlling the dialogue and switching the narrative.

  • What a guy! You just never know what you’re going to get with Ronnie, either at the table or during interviews. Lol! His volatility and unpredictability may seem controversial and disrespectful at times, but the world of snooker would be much less exciting without him, imo. When he’s ‘on’ and in the zone and in the right frame of mind (excuse the pun), he really is a joy to watch. Makes it look so easy - a true genius. Great comeback to beat Selby (a great player, but don’t really like him as a person).
