How To Pattern and Re-Wrap Door Panel Inserts In Vinyl - LeatherSeats.com
www.leatherseats.com
Our leather-trimmed seat upholstery kits are all built to order and come pre-sewn and ready to install. They are designed to be installed by either a mechanically inclined DIYer or a local upholstery shop in your area. With many of our upholstery kits, we include extra matching vinyl material for the door panels/inserts. Installing this material can be difficult so we made this Tech Tips video to show you how we pattern and install door panel inserts on a 2004-2007 Toyota Highlander. Most of the steps that you see in this video are universal concepts that can be used for other vehicles as well.
Be sure to check out the leather upholstery package for this Highlander here on our website: leatherseats.com/shop/special...
Installing this Highlander kit is an advanced DIY project that will require basic hand tools, hog rings, hog ring pliers, upholstery spray glue, a pneumatic upholstery stapler, and optionally an upholstery or clothing steamer for optimal fitment. In this specific door panel application, you will also want to have some rivets on hand to re-attach the window seal after the installation.

Nice work!
Educational and right to the point. Love it. Subscribed.
Great job
Your work & work of style always inspiration for me.
Tilak Raj Singh Rathore Thank you 🙏
It is amazing how much better it looks with one piece of vinyl, surprised Toyota doesnt do this from the factory specially considering how much Toyotas cost.
Top job guys looks great
Mark Tindall Thank you!

repairvehicle Thanks!
Hey, those plastic circular tabs at 1:00 minute with the circular "hole".... how are they removed? allen? cut em off? a bunch of mine broke lmao
Looks great! Hopefully mine turns out just as good.. gonna try to do it myself but we shall see… it’s a 2014 Cruze.. wanting to replace that mesh shit on my dash and door panels with leather
Thanks! Good luck with your project! Hope this video was of some help to you!
Very interesting and educational video. How do you do for hollow shapes, which is often the case with door panels.
Reverse curves are certainly one of the most challenging parts to upholstery. Between having the material laminated to backing foam, using a foam with scrim backing on both sides, and a lot of patience, it can be accomplished.
Looks awesome where you guys located I have an 04 Silverado I’m in Palmdale Ca can you point me where to get my interior redone
serious beaner Thanks! We are located in Oklahoma but we ship our kits all over the place. We have a fairly extensive recommended installer base any may have a recommendation. Please feel free to email sales@leatherseats.com or call us at 1-866-639-7328.
Top job 😊
What was the black glue you used to reattach the plastic?
@stevenzemo8602 Pause at 04:07 for the specifics, but it is essentially a higher capability hot glue. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email sales@leatherseats.com.
Very good education nice l see thanks tutorial
Awesome job! Where do you buy the black vinyl from?
We offer our automotive grade vinyl on our website by the yard. You can check that out using the link below, or give us a call at 866-639-7328! leatherseats.com/shop/professional-upholstery-supplies/raw-materials-supplies/standard-vinyl/
what is the thickness of upholstry foam and what is the material of 2nd upholstry?
In this video, we used 1/8" foam, our Dark Graphite vinyl, our T-1000 marking pen, DAP Weldwood Top and Trim Adhesive, and patterning chipboard.
You place extra backing foam to make it softer when you touch it? First time I see something like that. Most fabrics here are ready for use with foam on the back. I guess that what you do here is better than that thing I saw here. Am i right?
Hello! The backing foam is to give the material a soft touch and to make it lay evenly on the hard surfaced being wrapped. You can certainly use a material that already has foam laminated on the backside. The material we used was not available with a foam backing, so we added our own! Thank you for your comment.
@@LeatherSeats thanks for this helpful information you gave me

I need help, Im redoing 98 4runner door panels and the glue Im using makes it impossible to tuck the vinyl into the crevices. Its like in this video but the crevices arent at the end of the piece, rather in the middle! I'm losing my mind!!!!!
is there a heat activated glue that I can activate with a heatgun after placement?
@@pyrathian If you'd like to send an email to sales@leatherseats.com with photos of your project, we can run them by our installers and get their feedback
What is the name of the gum you use
@user-tp8zt8dy8v If you are referring to the tool at 4:30 it is a rivet tool/gun. We also used a pneumatic spray gun for the contact adhesive at 2:05 Hope that helps! If you have any questions, feel free to call or text us at 405-848-9999 👍
