Dad Accused of Abusing Son to Death by Forcing Him to Run on Treadmill

Christopher Gregor is on trial in New Jersey for child endangerment and murder after his 6-year-old son Corey died in 2021. Two weeks before Corey’s death, Gregor allegedly forced him to run at high speeds on a treadmill, despite the young falling numerous times. However, the defense argues Gregor did not abuse his son and that the child’s death was actually caused by sepsis. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down opening statements in Gregor’s trial, as well as testimony from Corey’s mother about what happened in the days before he died.

Corey on the other hand didn’t even question anything he just did it. Even when he fell off like 7 times in a row he got back up and did it again. I had to prove 8 years of sobriety just to regain my child. Now thanks to that taking so long, my daughter has horrible mental/physical issues due to where OCEAN COUNTY placed her while away from me. My daughter will never be the same and will never be fixed. Once I became sober and proved that for a bit, they should have given her right back, but nope. Even though I had proof of abuse for where they had sent her to, it didn't make a difference. She was allowed to be abused physically and mentally, but it's ok as long as she didn't live with her mother who made a mistake and promptly fixed it a few months later and has NEVER had a relapse. -_-

No, they will be horrified, angry, shocked, but not embarrassed. His client is the one who should be, at a bare minimum, mortified at his own behaviour. The defence attorney should be mortified for trying to place the blame for the child's death on anything other than this monster's shoulders.

    • @@Agent1W That the father was abusing him has been established. The mother sounded the alarm with the legal and medical systems, but they ignored her. And out of the blue one day after being pronounced "thoroughly healthy" by doctors, he suddenly develops sepsis and dies. Obviously the treadmill shows the doctors were wrong about his not being abused. They found no evidence but what tests did they do? That doctor made it sound as if she did a thorough work up but it was all just by looking at him superficially. Were any tests ordered? So either the "tests" doctors did were insufficient to uncover something serious going on, or something traumatic happened to him that day in his father's care. Either way, the father was responsible for sneakily abusing him and causing something the doctors missed, or the father abused him in some way early in that visit that the child could not recover from. Sepsis develops quickly.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t… but I have heard of child support payments being so extravagant that the dads are broke while the moms are going on vacations and living their best lives because they have so much extra left over. Of course, this isn’t the case all the time, sometimes it seems like they are required too pay too little. But it does seem they just come up with a random # sometimes. Without actually taking into consideration what is actually feasible for all parties (the parent with custody has enough and the parent paying isn’t put into hardship) so that you don’t end up with parents fighting for custody just to avoid payment.

    • Have seen a few defence attorney's use this same argument, it's when the prosecution have some nasty evidence against their client that they know will anger a jury, they have to agree that what the defendant did, that the evidence shows, was horrible, and a reason to dislike them, but not as a reason to convict them of a crime. The defence team have to work within the law, and if the evidence paints their client in a bad light, they need to acknowledge that, because they won't convince a jury that the treadmill punishment was okay, they have to agree that it's not about liking him, but about specific laws, intent etc, and beyond a reasonable doubt. This comment isn't in defence of the people in this case either, first I've heard of this case and it sounds awful - just a general defence of defence attorneys and the often difficult but still important job they have.

He's about himself he's controlling. And the mom clearly loved her son not herself. Men like this scare me. If they are not in their life or show any interest I don't know why the courts make them be a part of their life.

It's never the end of the world or their lives. It's just a fact of life. What's tragic is when they're fully irresponsible leading to something like this.. although I doubt we'll never know the actual reasons for Corey's demise.
