I don't know man, i think it's more a JoJo reference

The spindash option from CD is in the game, if you go to "NO SAVE", press Triangle/Y on the controller (depending what controller you are using - Triangle for PS4/PS5 and Triangle for Xbox One/Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch), you'll come up with an option to change it from Mania to CD which will allow you to use the peel out dash. Just wanted too add this because it's easy to miss. Tails's victory pose in Mania is a reference to when you enter a special stage in CD (2011). It's the same pose and it didn't appear in S3&K - only in CD (2011).

Oh, Sonic CD is absolutely my favourite classic game, and I see Sonic Mania as a good compilation of classic games. =)
You forgot to mention in the credits they use the same yay sound effect they used in Sonic CD in Palmtree panic

The torrent tube in Tidal Tempest is used in Hydrocity. The coil tubes in Quartz Quadrant are used in Chemical Plant. And the bouncy platforms in Whacky used in Chemical. Nicely done otherwise.

Sonic cd is my favourite classic sonic game and seeing it getting so much attention from sega is great
I love that the people who made this game actually decided to reference to sonic media, specifically the classics, being that it’s an 16bit game, made by fans which got licensed by sega or whatever, but yeah, I’m glad this was obviously made by people who truly care about t sonic and the entire franchise itself.
I actually love the Metal Sonic theme in Sonic Mania, especially the chorus part.
0:21 back in the day I was very impressed that this pixel looks very 3D
Im pretty sure it is, of course just a flat plane but 3d nontheless
It’s just basic art, anyone can make pixel art 3D with basic perspective knowledge.
The only difference I can think about this from Sonic Mania is this: In Sonic Mania, there is only one UFO, for it is very fast. The only way for you to catch it is if you get blue spheres (for speed) and rings (for time addon).
There is one Easter Egg you missed, and it's actually in Knuckles segment of Green Hill Act 1: there's a set of platforms that shares a striking resemblance to a set of platforms in Palmtree Panic!
The background of this level reminds me of the background of the past version quartz quadrant
There is no platforms there
@@0n1c420 if I could share pictures with you, I would.
Oh now I see
the virgin sprite comparison vs the CHAD platform layout comparison
3:46 also, when metal is stomping the rabbit, that's a reference too, sometimes when you go to the past to destroy the machines you can find metal doing that and you have to destroy the thing he's attached to, to make him disappear.
Is it me, or something about CD seriously stands out from Sonic 1, 2, and 3 (and Knuckles).
That is because Sonic CD was directed by Sonic's creator himself! Naoto Oshima!
That may be because it went for a completely different take on game design compared to the other classics; the other classic games were about getting to the goal as quick as you can with competent platforming and using your momentum, while also checking for secrets occasionally. Sonic cd is all about carefully exploring and interacting with the level structure in order to easily pull off time traveling and get good futures in these huge and crazy levels rather than blazing away in them. This sets sonic cd apart from the classics on the genesis and makes it really divisive amongst the sonic community.
Sonic CD is fundamentally designed with exploring in mind. Unlike Sonic 2 and 3, speed isn't the main focus. And the level design was designed with that philosophy. 90% of the levels in the game build up vertically, and most of the paths are completely optional, yet satisfying to take to see what's on the other side.
Am pretty sure the 3 is sonic cd and knuckles is sonic 3 & knuckles

I dont like Sonic CD... I LOVE SONIC CD!
Me Too!
Edit note: I’ll try and make it simpler for people who didn’t understand or were thinking about a different machine You missed a reference *Reference scene:* In Sonic Mania after you defeated the Stardust Speedway act 1 boss you would 1st destroy the robot generator (will get into that) then go by a future sign. *Reference in Sonic CD and purpose:* Now the 1st machine sonic destroys after Stardust Speedway act 1 boss is called a robot generator and in the original Sonic CD you would go into the past of each act (excluding bosses) to destroy the machine and create a good future in the future version of the act. If you wanted to not collect the time stones but make a good ending just destroy the robot generators in each act (excluding bosses) in Sonic CD it worked as a 2nd good ending.
Also before the Metal Sonic boss fight, it shows Sonic destroy a projection of Metal Sonic stepping on animals.
No, the machines destroyed in Mania's Stardust Speedway are actually taken from the flower capsules Sonic destroys after the first five Eggman battles.
Not THOSE capsules... The ones you destroy in past to make a good future and did you even read the full thing?
@@JumpMan96_ Yeah I think they mistook which machine you were talking about. You're talking about the Alien Capsule machine thing with all the animals in it. The alternative way to get the good future aside from collecting time stones.

For those who dont sonic CD was a big inspiration for mania because most of the setting is taken place on little planet and eggman using the phantom ruby to beat sonic once and for all and successfully capturing little planet. Which is why CD is used alot because little planet I'd literally the main setting
One of the devs must really love sonic cd to put this much references. I mean... I love sonic CD too.
Man, much as I love mania, this just made me realise how far ahead of it's time CD was. Much as I love Sonic 2, it just doesn't have nearly as many little touches. Granted CD is also missing some features (spin-dash, super sonic etc) that would come in later games, but otherwise it was the most advanced sonic game out there.
I love bossfight with metal sonic so much, this music and fast gameplay just so good
i love the ending tune, it feels everything is done, and you can relax now.. drawing last breath...
2. Springs: from sonic 1 3. Tubes: Sonic 2 and CD but CD came out after Sonic 2 I'm watching the video at the same time as writing this. 4? Ok that is one that counts
he dont talk about the springs but the spinning animation, and by the tubes he means the thing that allows you to change direction
2. Ok first off, the spring wasn't the refrence, it was the animation Sonic did 3. Second off, you do realize it doesn't matter if a game came before or after right? Sonic mania doesn't do that. And Sonic 2 and Sonic CD were developed at the same time lmao
Even though Tyson Hesse Sonic is inspired in Toei/Junio Sonic, he feels really different to me...
From what I recall, Toei Sonic never actually smiles; that could be why.
Well, there are many differences between the two designs, as similar as they are. The colors are almost entirely different, Tyson Sonic has shorter limbs, they have differently shaped shoes, Junio Sonic has longer and slightly skinnier spines while Tyson's are shorter and a little thicker, the overall body proportions are changed, as well as how they draw the face.
@@Pixentric Toei Sonic smiles twice in the Sonic CD ending (when destroying a badnik and when riding the cutter enemy). The smile he gives is way different than Tyson Hesse Sonic's smile tho.
Pretty good editing mate 👌
Good vid dude!!! 😎👍
There's also the reference of the robot generator and the metal sonic hologram in stardust speedway. Since that's referencing one of the two ways to get the good ending of CD (smashing the generator in the past and destroying the Metal Sonic hologram)
You don't actually have to smash the hologram for anything, it just makes animals appear.

I'll be honest, growing up in the 90s, I wasn't the biggest Sonic CD fan, favoring by a very large margin the Genesis titles (and even Triple Trouble on the Game Gear). While I still prefer the Genesis games in general, getting to play the awesome Steam port of Sonic CD with the proper JPN soundtrack (which no offense to anyone who thinks otherwise, but IMHO it is FAR superior and far more unique and stylish than the US soundtrack, and this is as an American who didn't grow up with it talking here), and then seeing how the best parts of Sonic CD were injected into the DNA of Sonic Mania really turned my opinion of the game around.
There's no point in comparing the 2. They are both equal soundtracks.
@@NameChecksOut That is your opinion. For me, the US soundtrack is a lot more lifeless and dull, enough to totally color my impression of the game back in the day. But I am glad both soundtracks do exist - even I must admit there are some gems in the US soundtrack too. I just think there was no need to revise something as cool and catchy as the JPN soundtrack in the first place, and even if they did, I just wish we had the option to choose back in the 90s.
Let's be honest, sonic cd have the best soundtrack.
