Does the idea of flying with a baby terrify you? I remember my first flight with our young son, it was actually THREE flights to get from Toronto to Rio for a volunteering trip and it was TOUGH!
But flying with babies has gotten easier over time, and as I am flying alone with a 9 month old from Toronto to LAX (with our SEVENTH baby, Phoebe), I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some of my flying with a baby tips to make it an easier experience. If you're flying alone with a baby in the near future, stay tuned!
AIRLINES THAT HAVE DECENT ROOM IN ECONOMY CLASS: Air Canada and West Jet. Those are the only two airlines I will fly if given the choice for US and Canadian trips.
Anytime I have booked a ticket on a more budget carrier to save money, I have paid for it in discomfort. There just isn't much room between you and the seat in front of you so it can get quite uncomfortable for you and baby if you are holding your baby in your lap for the entire duration of the flight.

Whoops, saw this late, I ask for the plastic bag at the family help desk where you check the car seat. One time they didn't have it and I went to the check in of another airline and got it.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you have any idea if the stroller weight included in the weight alloweded to take in the plane.

Thanks so much!! Glad it was helpful! You can do this.
Super video i love your energy
Thank you! I am glad it was a help!
Great tips! A baby carrier is so helpful when flying with a baby. We do a similar method but skip the stroller and bring a reusable bag for checking the car seat. I agree 100% about not needing to bring many toys on the plane! There are other things to entertain a baby. 🌺Heidi
Kensho Quest so awesome!
The bathroom tips are great
Haha insider hacks! Glad to hear it's helpful.
Lovely and useful video, thanks 😊 ❤
So nice of you!
Love this thank you for being honest
You are so welcome! Glad it was a help. Where are you flying to?
So helpful! Thank you
So glad to hear! Happy travels
This is the most helpful video ever
i am so glad you liked it! What was most helpful to you?
You described everything into detail and videod everything:) most helpful was how you brought the car seat and stroller. I didn’t know that airlines didn’t count it as a baggage. I was worried I couldn’t bring my sons stroller. I will be flying by myself with my 9 month old in July and I was nervous until I saw this video♥️♥️♥️
Wonderful! Glad it brought some relief. Happy travels to you both!
Such a cute video and really helpful 👶🏻
Thank you!! 😊 Glad it was a help!
Thank you for this! I'm flying with my baby by myself and am so nervous. This makes me feel better.
You are so welcome! You got this!
Do not be nervous
Best video ever. Thank u sooooo sooo much

Extremely useful tips ! I have taken NOTES. Travelling with 6 month old in a couple months and I am quite anxious...
You can do it!!!!!
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy travels.
Omg thank you!!! Why didn’t I watch this sooner!!! I traveled from Nigeria to Thailand (21 hours) at 12 weeks and it was RIDICULOUS!!!! But now that we’re traveling back to Nigeria (4 months now) I feel more prepared. Thank you sooooo much for sharing
Wow, long hauls! I am so glad that this was a help and I wish you a happy trip home!
Oh my gosh, I am traveling soon with my 9-month-old baby "alone." I am now less nervous when I saw your video. Thank you so much for sharing this! ❤ - I'm using my husband's yt account, lol.
Well I am very glad to hear that the video was a help! You got this!
Hahaha, watching this with my four month old & she smiles & laughs at 7:55-8:05 when you were playing with your baby 😂 I replayed it a few times and same reaction every time 😂💞
Haha that's amazing. Tell her thanks for watching! 😆
I just watched this video back with my 6 year old and she had the same reaction! She watched the part where Phoebe smacked the phone about 20 times 😂
I am planning on flying with my 6 month old in January (so about 8 months when we fly.) It's my first time flying by myself and then alone with a baby. I'M SO NERVOUS! I've been watching a bunch of flying with baby videos, this one was one of the best I have watched so far! Very informative and your reasons were explained. 😊
I am glad to hear that! In some ways it is a lot easier flying with them at under a year. Good luck!
Thank you it was perfect
So glad to hear!
Wow the toilet part is genius. I was freaking out over that part
Haha yup, that carrier comes in handy!
Such a helpful video! I’ll be traveling soon with 3mo! Hoping everything goes smoothly.
lakena chhun I am so glad you get to travel!!!!!! Have so much fun!
You are amazing
You are very kind!
I hope I have ur energy when I go. I’m crying inside already 🤣🤣
You can do it! Anything like this will feel challenging when you’re doing it for the first time, but you can do it!
Good job 👍😃
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it.
Bringing a soft baby carrier smart
Wow I never even thought about going to the bathroom with baby in tow! Of course, keep baby strapped on! Duh lol it may be Tmi but a big pro tip lol thank you. I almost packed away the baby carrier in the suit case.
Penelope Alcala I wouldn’t know it either if it weren’t for experience!!!!
Omg you are the first out of traveling with kids videos that has mention the family lane and that’s my biggest worry is the security point and I didn’t know it was available I checked ATL airport does. I’m traveling to California with two under two during Christmas season
Oh wow! Yes, it is a huge relief to find that express lane. Also, when you are boarding, they let families with kids under two board earlier than general boarding, usually right after First Class. Make sure to listen for the announcement because I've seen families miss it and board with everyone else.
Thank you so much you been such a big help honestly the most helpful video ❤️❤️ Definitely gave me little more relief I hate flying I get really bad anxiety I saw you mention the oils I might try it I never had.
Ur video is soo helpful 😄 ,i'm going to go to Indonesia from amsterdam alone with my 6-month baby 😂 , nervous but excited 😂
You can do it! Remember to breath through it and give yourself and the baby grace ♥
Flying with an 18 month old on Sunday, both flights are only 2 hours each but I’m nervous he’ll have a fit. I’ve been online for hours and people are not very understanding of babies on planes. This video was helpful and I love all the tips! Thank you 😭
Good luck! And if he throws a fit, that's ok too! Don't worry about what people might be thinking. A lot of the time I find that other passengers are accommodating and even helpful. Glad the video was a help ♥
I need to fly with a 10 month old and super nervous she'll have another fit as last time was terrible at 6 months! It was the longest 2 hours of my life. How did your trip go?
@@Lilly9420tm it went extremely well! I downloaded some long episodes of kids shows on Netflix and brought snacks and bribing treats. The only time he had a fit was on our layover in a super busy airport bc he wanted to get out and walk, that’s when the bribing treats worked!
Yes, same here and so true
Hi, Such a useful video at such a good time. As my sistr is travelling tommorw, (she is super happy but nervous) first time parent going 7 hr plane journey after good 10 yearssss. Yes you heard me right! 😅😄😅😄😅 Thank you for making this video🥰blessings from 🇬🇧
Welcome to my channel Humaira from England! Blessings right back at you! Wish her happy travels from me! Across the Atlantic, I am guessing?
We just did a 8 and 7 hour flight overseas from Holland to Toronto with our three kids (youngest is 9 months old also). It went really well. I never understand Why people stop travelling once they have babies! ☺️
Maaike van Dijk-Bokkers oh my gosh awesome- do you have a tip I did not cover in this video?
For international flights it is a bit different I guess. I ordered a vegan meal for my older kids and they got It before anyone else which was nice. Also, they have a baby cot for an overnight flight (we didn’t use ours, you have to reserve them).
Maaike van Dijk-Bokkers that is so awesome. It is my dream to bring my kids (all of them lol) on an airplane and take them across the pond!!!!
This was great! Am going to be traveling with two kids this coming August. My first is 6 and my second will be about three months . Am so nervous
Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully the 6 year old can be your special little helper on the journey.
Your baby is adorable. I am travelling alone with my 14 month old and 3 year old from Lima to Miami on a humanitarian flight since we got stuck in Peru when visiting family. This will be another ball game for me to travel with 2 under the current circumstances. Thanks for the tip on how to go to bathroom, may have to do the same and hope my almost 4 year old stays on the seat. My 1 year old will NOT be sitting so happily like yours, he just wants to go down and explore if not he will yell BAD, wish me luck!
Rosa Tapia oh my goodness what an adventure! Best of luck to you, you can do it!!!!
this will help me, I'm going to travel alone 37hr flight with only 2 stops
Wow that is a long haul! I am glad this was a help.
I wish i can do this too. Huhu fighting!💪🏻
Wowww super mum
haha just doing my best and learning every day! Thanks for watching.
I wdnt try flying with my 9months old..very unsettled baby.myt start screaming.but that was gd advice.your baby is very calm&doesnt cry.
Oh, she sometimes cries! I have flown with less agreeable babies, too. It can be rough, that's for sure, but you get there.
This is such a detailed and informative video. Thank you Lisa! We are travelling for the first time on an Air Canada 14 hr flight with our 6 month old and are super scared and confused. But your video gave us hope, I guess we can do it! Also can you share details of your stroller?
Wow, long haul! I am glad the video provided some hope! Yes, that stroller I still have, it is a Bugaboo Bee and it has served me very well for a long time. Happy travels!
This was incredibly useful. Planning an 11h flight with a 9mo old...
So glad! That's a long one. But we did three legs on a return flight from Brazil once with a 1 year old. THAT was a toughie but we survived :)
awww you are so Amazing! thanks for your tips, you make it look so easy. I am soon travelling to the UK from Ottawa with a 8months old and Hubby too, my biggest worry was how am i going to hold my baby while seating, is he going to sleep on me as well as he does n his crib? toys to bring! i thought i would have to buy a travel stroller bag , surprised airlines provide one supper helpful!
Definitely ask if the flight is full, so you may be able to get reseated with an empty seat beside you to let him rest there. And if he sleeps on you not quite as well as the crib, at least it’s only 5 or 6 hours 😄
You don't need the carseat base when flying? What happens when you land and need to put the infant carseat in a vehicle?
Hey Hi just stumbled upon your video amazing tips, last week i travelled with my 6m baby girl to Maldives. All went on well, only difficulty was i just couldn't put her to sleep on flight, she wouldn't take feed to sleep.nothing could comfort her 😢 please advise next me month we ll be on 6hr flight to Bali
So informative. Thank you I just wanted to know where did you keep the stroller before boarding the plane or who took that? I am a bit confused about it.
Great question! You can bring the stroller right to the plane and gate check it. So they take it from where I left it and put it under the plane, and when you land you find it right back there. When you are about to board they will give you a tag for it
@@ThePossibilityMom thank you so much
Thank you soo much I would have never taugh to hook the car seet to my suitcase 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 super mom
Yeah it gets me some fun looks! Someone stopped me once and asked if the suitcase and car seat came together because it looks so perfectly convenient. #momhacks
Hi Lisa, thanks for the great video! I saw you checked the infant car seat but I did not see the base part of it? Where do you put the base when you travel?
Hi there, great question! This carseat is able to work without the base. The base is nice because it's very secure, but you can also just loop the seatbelt through part of the seat. Happy travels!
Traveling alone with a very active 1yr old & I am not ready 😅
You can do it! 💪
Thank you for for sharing, informative video. Question: which airline do you recommend is best with space - I'll be traveling with my grandson.
I found the bigger airlines had more space- Air Canada and West Jet in Canada, United in USA- whereas the budget airlines were way too tight. I would check if you can see the space between seats before you book and compare flights, but when in doubt I would pay a bit more for a bigger name airline.
