I'm with you. I hate these episodic recaps too. I usually can tell one by the run time. 15 mins and up is a good bet it's a movie. There're unfulfilling. Shet, I've seen recaps an hour long. Might as well watch the damn show.

It's actually not uncommon for people who nearly starved to start gorging on food once they have access to it again and become overweight. It's not like they said that he just went through that 4 weeks without food recently, we don't know how long it's been.
@@giantWario But, that assumes the person has free access to get enough food to gorge. The food is heavily rationed though. That's a huge plot point for the series.

I don't know if this is directly inspired by it, but this reminds me of a short story I read in high school. The premise was, eternal life was possible (no dying by aging, eternal youth kind), so to make sure overpopulation was kept in check, every time someone was born, someone had to die. On discovery that his wife was having twins, rather than sacrificing his father (who was the original "life donor"), he killed the doctor who made the discovery, then himself to make way for the twins.
This system is extremely unstable though, some would inevetably rebel and separate themself, and would cause war and depletes resources even more lol, also did they underestimate agriculture hehe
@@theeyeofomnipotent Oh, absolutely a bad idea (see China's attempt at population control...). Still, it was painted in the story as a "utopia", but with the potential dark side. They didn't get around to mentioning war or resources, it was a super short story.

Seeing the storyline l have the feeling that the real problem might be to keep up the number of the population rather then to limit it.
They invite people from the mainland if it drops below 513. Besides, 513 is too little even if they were the last of mankind... you'd need at least 10.000, preferably with as diverse a genetic background as possible.

Cannibalism isn’t that far fetched but raise small game and crops isn’t that hard and WAY more sustainable

that's why they ae the only 'survivors' and why their system runs like crap.. without antibiotics and medicine, more 1/2 of hem would be dead already, no need to 'sacrifice' when the baby is just born, ..the writer has no idea how hard is to keep infants alive without modern medicine... just 100 yrs ago was 50%.. way less moving back..
They didn't take Henrick to the expedition. They abandoned him on the mainland, which was his punishment, then they went on the expedition.
Prior to the development of ultrasound technology twins were often hidden. The positions in the womb meant they didn't detect them both until the babies were emerging. Apparently even with ultrasounds it still sometimes happens.

I'm not surprised to see a series made on a dilemma of the social credit score. It is a very disturbing system - especially when anyone can obtain scores just for doing something good in the sight of the leader. In a sense, the leader in this story, is no better than her son who coerced women to have sex with him in exchange for food. As long as people please the leader, they get to stay.
and still a lot of Europeans are ok with such a system, because the "higher ups would never do wrong"....

There was no hospital on the island but the man had his research stuff. Do you not understand that a lab and a hospital have different machines? Right now in the real world if a doctor goes to a lab, all the machines there won't be any helpful for him. It's like wanting a mechanic to use a carpenter's tools.

You’d think that would be a top priority for an island that maintains a constant population of 513 people, something that would prevent being surprised by twins at birth 😂

Oh I don't like this. Another big recap channel started to do episodes instead of movies, and it just wasn't nice to lack a proper ending. I soon stopped watching their content.

Because of story logic Same with Dying Light 1, the main character destroys a supply crate of vaccines needed for survivors because of... plot reasons and his secret agency orders him, to meet the main bad guy. Resulting in a number of the survivors dying and side characters.
