The passenger side rear view mirror started delaminating on my wife’s E90. Ali Express to the rescue. $30, new mirror glass, all’s good!
Please Jamie next time try to solder it from the side. The fumes/gases are flowing straight up and you inhale them. Also put on safety glasses because solder can just fly off the wire if it somehow brakes free while you holding it down with a screwdriver. Trust me I got some experience in university from being dumb 😅 Now I almost soldering everyday as an engineer. Nice fix by the way, saved a lot of money for you.

Alternatively if you don't want to solder, you could just pop the two metal strip of "clamps" off and just swap the entire assembly to the new glass.

I tried to get the m3 mirrors to fold on my E46 touring. No luck. M3 mirror Modules, coding, new switches. Gave them to my friend and worked perfectly on his convertible no mods.
My 04 Acura TL has the auto dimming mirror as well as the tilt down side mirror in reverse but you can switch it between drivers side and passenger side and then if you want it off you just put the switch in the center position. Great for backing into parking spaces looking at the lines

You need flux to reuse the old soldering metal.
Using old solder is tricky without flux or rosin.
Shortly after acquiring my E46 M3 with this issue, I sent the mirror to a site called Radar Mirror in Texas. He repaired the mirror, probably using a very similar method, for $99.

So a solution for customers is to clean the fluid. As long they don’t mind the loss of the dimmer function.

This is what I did - separated the two halves, then cleaned all the fluid. I have a power rear sunscreen that is permanently up as that is what blocks glare from headlights
@@timothyer2447That one is a fairly simple fix as well. Many times you can just take apart the electric motor and clean it, reassemble, and it will work good as new.

What if my mirror doesn’t work at all. No tilt in reverse, no auto fold in, and can’t adjust them with the remote. The only thing that works is the heat. Do I need to replace the whole mirror assembly or just like a motor or something? Thanks

My car didn't have a rear view mirror when I bought it because the mount had detached from the windshield. I bought a mirror that attaches with a suction cup and it cost me $10. Of course it doesn't have any electrical features but I don't care about that

Brand new bought 2017 X3 top of the line engine blew valve cover gasket after 5 years. I wonder what other important parts are cheaply done! Not buying another BMW in US! European BWMs are better made.
