Question….. Where did Julie get pronunciation “par-fect”? (I have been enjoying Babbel the last six months.)
Your brunch prices seem surprisingly reasonable. So often an attraction’s cafe prices seem exploitative and leave the visitor with a bad feeling.
I totally agree and I was thinking the exact same thing. McDonald’s prices have gotten ridiculous, you cannot get breakfast for less than 10 bucks these days. I refuse to pay that and McDonald’s can keep there egg McMuffin! Your prices are very fair.
😊luke has his hands full with the erosion priblem at Mapperton. Good luck with restoration.
It just feels like the engineers and county didn't put that road in properly or the road was there for years, but no one appeared to actually think about what would happen when it rained. The sand and drainage ditches also didn't look like they were properly prepared and built.
its an adventure, an opportunity to bring in new energy to the place, sort of like a rebirth
Actually, the problem with the road is not Luke's responsibility. Fortunately for Mapperton, the road is under the control of the council.
@PLuMUK54 I agree with you on that. However, the work the council did was poorly done and damaged his property. Drainage wasn't properly installed, and the foundation of sand does not appear to have the proper thickness. Heavy flooding and rains do happen. That said, most roads are able to survive such forces. Unfortunately, this one didn't, and now the Mapleton property is feeling the effects!
This is the council's responsibility, which I hope has consulted with a geological firm specializing in soft soil erosion. That entire slope should be taped off as a precautionary measure.
Luke & Julie, You know, down the road at some point, another good idea/venture to incorporate would be horses. The ability to book a couple of hours to ride horses across those glorious green rolling hills could possibly generate another revenue stream. While providing lots of outdoor adventure and fresh air. The byproduct (manure) would also be great for the land. While people are there, they would probably partake in the other Mapperton offerings. I know here in the US, it is quite popular but not plentiful. Just a thought.
Thanks for a fascinating channel. Julie, you are an asset to the family with your warmth and energy.
As a graphic designer, you did an absolutely fabulous job on Alberta's 'point of display' for her exhibition. I'm not a copywriter I hasten to add, but researching, editing, writing, correcting and having someone proof read is exhausting (even with help). I'm sure you spent 80+ hours not _eight_ 😁😁. They look amazing.
The café looks amazing! Well done it’s a huge amount of work
Restaurant owner here: you have a well-rounded and enticing brunch/all day menu. Well done!
Thank you for sharing the deep connections of Mapperton to Chicago! For years I have enjoyed walking in the summer around Buckingham Fountain, having no idea of its true history. Nor the precious gifts to the Art Institute of Chicago, which too, is a favorite stop whenever we are in the city. Incredible are the links to Illinois agriculture and storage of grain, and the new home on (Pine St.) and Michigan Avenue and Huron. Living in Streeterville in my 20s I had no idea the links to a Countess in the UK! Looking forward to a virtual tour!!! Again, this family is so lucky to have another hard-working dedicated midwesterner from the US doing all the things needed to preserve precious family history and Mapperton itself, indeed more than lucky, Sending wishes for a great season of visitors and a viable solution to the land slippage issue, which is located at a most beautiful spot!
As a Brit it is so lovely to see how Julie is helping to transform Mapperton with her enthusiasm, creativity and hardwork. These are I believe the characteristics of Americans with their can do attitude. In years to come there will be exhibitions not only about Alberta but also Julie.
I would suggest you put those amazing boards on easels. That way no need to put screws in the beautiful book cases Wonderful episode. 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Successful, happy season!🍀 Everything else will fall into place with your wonderful, positive energy. Keep calm and carry on 😇🫶🏽
Julie, I love that you have a Masters in Restoration and Historical research. I love what you are doing for Luke's Great-grandmother and your fellow Illinois-Americam Aristocrat. Makes me wish that I had persued my interests in historical preservation (a Curator).
PS: We all have time to learn enough Spanish on Babble to go to Spain in 2028 for the full eclipse there! Did you know? Kudos to Luke! Im so impressed! He cleaned up a dead bird and all the poops without hesitation and bagged El Birdo to protect you from having to see the poor thing. So thoughtful! Only a special guy would do that, I think. But, it really scares me to see you walking on that landslide, Luke, when its still wet! Get the heck off of that thing! Don't want to see you surfing down into the valley! Why tempt fate?
What an amazing time! The open house for families, the lovely dining area and of course, the Alberta exhibit. Julie and Luke, you are doing great work. Fingers crossed the road can be moved and stay stable. ❤
Yay! I’m so happy for you! 😊 I’m from Springfield Illinois and would love to come to Mapperton! You are doing Americans proud!
Agree with you about removing the 2 chairs with embroidered seat and back, but maybe place the two big armchairs close to the sofa, allowing more space to walk while maintaining the ambiance. Posters are fabulous!
I absolutely love that both of you, Julie and Luke are so down-to-earth! Not fussy, just so approachable. This is why you have a packed house!❤
It was enjoyable as always. The exhibit boards look great! I was wondering how you will protect the precious books behind the boards. Visitors could easily reach in and touch the books, so they must be watched constantly. The cafe food's inviting!
Poor bird. You need screened caps on the chimneys.
Phillip and Anna at "How to Restore a Chateau Without Killing Your Partner" on KZhead, just had the same thing happen. A Baby owl flew down their dining room chimney. They have also put screencaps on their chimneys to prevent that from happening again. Anna is scared of birds. Phillip was brave and fearless, gentle and kind in the successful rescue.
The food at the cafe is quite gourmet and the presentation is lovely! Julie eats the English way now!!
"..eats the English way now!!" Am curious - what is the 'English way'?
@@Django44 Americans, normally, have the fork in left hand, cut their food with knife in right hand, then put the knife down, switch the fork over to their right hand and pick the food up with their fork to eat it. Visa versa if they are a lefty! That is the way I have always seen it happen anyway. 😁
@@soniahamilton9914 Oh okay. Thank you for taking the time for your excellent and very clear explanation.
It's the only polite way to eat! (I'm Canadian, raised the English way) Good on you, Julie!
Julie also pronounces "perfect" in the English way now.
Love watching y’all!! Can you tier the area where the erosion is happening? Use your local stone and it would look amazing. They do that all over Texas and we have different soil from clay to sand to rocky. Good luck!
Had the same thought of terracing. There are also no trees to hold the soil with deep roots. Once the road is moved those slopes should be revegetated with trees.
The cafe looks great. Please think about some plant-based options for the brunch menu. Julie, you have done a brilliant job with the Alberta exhibition materials.
Hopefully you have a amazing summer turn out and make your goals
Julie, I have to say you are incredible all the things you have done, congratulations!
What I can offer about the road as someone who lives in Northern California where this sort of thing happens every season, is that the road could go on pilings that attach to the bedrock below (if the engineers can find it) and make a drainage system so the land and water can move under the road instead of pulling the road down with it.
The library paint colours are wonderful!
Cafe looks great. Good menu, reasonable prices. Food looks delish!
Best wishes for a successful (and less rainy) season at Mapperton.
Let's hope all has fun and are respectful too
The chalkboard with events at the cafe is perfect 👌 and love the Alberta boards, they look fantastic!
The brunch menu is lovely and if I didn't live so far away (on the Cdn Prairies), I'd be there in a flash. (just a note - I love Holly's lovely "What's Happening" board - a reminder that apostrophes are usually used to denote ownership not multiple items, such a "trees" and the like ... I work with words for a living and love mentoring folks.)
Bellissimo posto🌄
Oh the exhibit boards are perfect !!! This is so exciting, all the best ❤.
It all looks wonderful!❤
This is so exciting! A wonderful event during Easter.
Wonderful video! Cheers.
Haven't checked in in quite sometime! Look how much y'all have accomplished since the beginning!! Wow! 4:58 Absolutely LOVE the blue ! The lawn also looks incredible as well as all of the rolling green hills! 😍 I know you two must be so proud! Ah! The photographs & boards are lovely! I'm waiting on a book about Mapperton's history & all of the restorations you all have done! Love from America! ❤🤍💙
I just got something to share with you, i watched this chateau guy who has a reflection pond in which he has a special plant that eats algea , it needs a bit of dirt in the pond but his pond is clear and stays clear, he is Chateau de Dampierre , Reflecting pool of the Chateau + restoration of the hydroelectric generator ask him what plant that is, it could be a wonderful solution for your pool
Love this channel ❤
Congrats and good luck with everything 😊
Julie I watched you back in the day on Ladies of London and something made me search you a few months ago - not only did I find you and your channels ( love them!!) it opened the door to chateau vlogs and I love them all, so thank you!!
Here is an idea. Sell copies of your menus for an inexpensive souvenir .
I look forward to visiting beautiful Mapperton one of these days. Julie, the posters look lovely and very professional! Well done!
Congratulations and thank you so much for all you do. Your dedication to the Montagu family and its history is an example and an inspiration to one and all. A very special thanks for the way you and Luke share everything through videos for those of us who can only dream of visiting Mapperton.
Best wishes from Toronto, Canada for a successful season! Mapperton has been on my "must visit" list since discovering it on the Smithsonian Channel's An American Aristocrat's Guide to Great Estates over a year ago. I then found your Mapperton youtube channel and American Viscountess channel and have been hooked ever since. The "sandwich" menu looks delicious...I'll be tucking into the Fossil Farm roast beef and horseradish. Seems fitting perhaps as the signature sandwich at Mapperton considering its history.
Yes all love to eat and visit after. The cafe looks great. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
All looks amazing! Just a thought about hanging height of boards in library… the initial higher position might be better because the lower height looked like people would have to really lower their heads or step back a distance to see the middle on down. I think better/easier to look slightly up to start. So well done! They look fantastic!!
Oh, I wish I could come for a visit! Love seeing all that you have done.
Congratulations on a great opening day! Cant wait to see the exhibition. Having lived in an area with numerous land slips I'll be curious to see how the road problem is resolved
I just found your channel through Kirsten and Joergs older video! Love it!!
BTW the Map House in Knightsbridge has a lot of old prints of manor houses and castles. You might call them and see if they have any Mapperton memorabilia.
Julie, you are amazing doing a hundred things at once in helping to keep Mapperton going. Jennifer in Seattle ❤
Wishing you a successful year 😍😘
Oh oh my! I’d have either!❤
So happy for you!
Good luck with your erosion issues and hope all gets tsken care of satisfactorily. Julie your boards are a resounding success, fantastic job.
The newly upgraded library - absolutely perfect colour scheme ❤ - 👍! About the information about Alberta, consider easels for some of them. It might save some work, and work very well for placing something in a corner, or - possibly - on top of something else that does not allow for drilling. I wish my family and I could be in Dorset this summer. That brunch is, IMO, absolute perfection!
Everything is so exquisitely beautiful. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. Your enthusiasm and hard work are such an inspiration to me. It is wonderful to see inside this beautiful Castle like house, from the opposite side of the world. I so much appreciate what you are doing. From an old granny, in a faraway country.❤❤❤💯
Amazing episode 🎉❤! I hope I can visit one day and to meet you both!!!!!
Sorry about the critter that got trapped in your bathroom, but carpeting in a bathroom? Really you should put a nice time floor in.
Yes - carpeting in a bathroom is just nasty!
I suspect it has something to do with the heating in there, perhaps there isn't any.
I love your rewilding project! I cannot wait to visit your lands some day.
Love all your programmes on all your channels. Can't wait to get over to Devon from Ireland some day to visit. Beautiful home.
Oh my goodness! I would be so overwhelmed with the land slippage issue. Julie and Luke u both do a phenomenal job!❤
I pray that the Spring brings warm dry weather to your part of the country & that you do manage to exceed your greatest expectations with the visitors coming to view all you have to offer. You could try sending the wet weather my way as I have solid roots & won't slip down the hill (I hope!)
You guys did a great job
i love watching your lives and adventures...
Y’all are so precious and down to earth ……..so hardworking……we are rooting for you ❤️ Cheers from Sugarland Texas 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Another great video, Julie and Luke😊
The Cafe looks lovely and food looks delicious 😋 it made me hungry looking at the selection.
I would love to come to see you all. Especially the cafe!😊
I worry about people touching or trying to remove books from the shelf in order to get a better look at them. And you've stated that they are fragile. I'd hate for them to be covered up, but sometimes it's better to remove temptation.
……and the season is off with a bang! Congratulations🥳 The brunch menu is amazing, the kids playing and how green and beautiful the landscape is… Bummer about the road🥹 Alberta’s exhibit is sure coming together nicely. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The exhibit boards are top quality!
Julie & Luke So happy to see such progress. Hope to see it in person one day. You say you do not have a proper watercolor of Mapperton… “Landscape Artist of the Year” could resolve that AND bring new patrons from near and far.
Next door in Somerset, definitely think we will be pootling across the border to you for brunch!
The simple things House and Garden magazines don't tell you - birds still get into the house and poo, as does the rest of nature, the more rural you are, the closer to nature, the more the wildlife of all kinds lol. We had a problem with our flourishing bird life taking a fancy to the catfood. Nature.
Julie, the boards look fantastic! Years ago I used to do the publishing for my mom’s quarterly publication. Completely understand how you feel, especially regarding typos, and the joy when looking at a finish product. Great Job!! After all this work your dissertation is going to be amazing. Hate to ask you this, I’m sure you’ve repeated yourself so many times, but how do you buy the coffees? So awesome to have the opportunity of doing the tour while sitting in Oregon.
There's a link in the description to the buymeacoffee page.
Julie,Luke. Both did a Beautiful Job all around. And all the People and Family that Help you guys.Thank you all for helping Luke and Julie. And everything is Beautiful.Love Raquel.🤗
Julie, how about adding Waffles and Chicken to your menu and call it “The American Cluck”! My favorite chic restaurant here in town has that with endless mimosas!
Very much enjoyed this episode and all the preparations for the opening of the public visitation season and the Alberta exhibit! I hope the land issue can be corrected! The scenery is fabulous!,
How about sandblasting the house? Give it a whish for the next 100 years!??? There are also new pressure washer attachments for garden hoses, to clean walkways and driveways of discoloration, unless you want to go whole hog for a professional blaster?
Best of luck with ALL your new endeavors ❤ Love from PENNSYLVANIA ❤❤❤
If I ever win the lottery I'm definitely coming over. Especially now you have Eggs Beni. Love your channels. All of them. So real and funny and interesting. I'm in New Zealand and I have been to the UK many years ago. Would love to go back. If I could only remember to get the lotto ticket each week. :)
Your whole menu has great options and prices!
I've been following! How exciting. Love the A1 boards. Sad about the land movement . Very hard to stop nature
Julie...amazon simple solution is the only lroduct to go over everything that was left behind!
Thank all the New People that Joyed the team I Love 💕 you all.Keep doing a great job.. Love Grandma Raquel. From Bakersfield, California.🤗.And Please say hi to Nester your Son for Healing you guys.
I'm so happy for you! Sad for the little bird. Hope your opening day was all you imagined it to be!
Look forward to every Mapperton Live. First time commenting! Look forward to visiting Mapperton In July. Cheers Pam Tasmania!
Need a huge colvert ..round pipe to move water under the ground..make a pond for natural foul then another pipe to let the excess water to go to the sea
Happy opening day! I just listened to a podcast about the history of the sandwich and-of course-your family was mentioned. 😀. “Everything Everywhere Daily” is the name. Date is 4/15/24. It’s fun.
Congratulations on opening day. I have to applaud you Julie for going above and beyond creating in creating the Alberta exhibition. I think it is an amazing part of History. And I believe God brought you to Mapperton & Luke to create this for posterity.❤ well done Julie & Luke 🎉 blessings
Julie. I live in Michigan. About an hour west of Detroit. West of of my small town is a small town called sturgis. Is there a connection to your family. Hope to hear from you 24:59
24:15 OMG! I grew up in Philly! So exciting the local paper carried the story in our favorite news paper, the Philadelphia Inquirer!!
Great prices … and the good looks amazing
I think you’ve left us all wishing we could be there!
Please keep us posted on the land slippage and road rerouting projects. The view from there is beautiful and not one to be marred by erosion issues. Would planting trees help to prevent future problems? The children’s play area looks like loads of fun. I didn’t take a close look at the menu, but I’m sure there are kid friendly brunch items/portions for hungry children, too. Julie, I was trying to read your boards because they looked so attractive and interesting. What a labor of love! Many wishes that you reach 20K visitors by the end of the year.
❤Love you!
Wow! The display boards in the library look really really nice. Perhaps putting them in front of the books might appear to disrupt the reverence some might regard when looking at book titles? Perhaps, consider temporarily moving the books out of the library?
Wonderful video. Beautiful Alberta boards.
