An apple a day keeps the doctor away = Fresh fruit is good for you. 2) Orchard (n) - an area of land where fruit trees are grown except orange trees or other citrus trees Exp: an apple orchard; At the moment, hundreds of different apple varieties have been grown in orchards up and down the country. 3) Flavonoid (n) - a substance in fruit or vegetables that may help reduce blood pressure, and improve brain and heart health. Exp: Apple skins are full of good stuff including fibre, vitamins, and especially flavonoids which can improve people's blood flow, and boost their brain and heart health. 4) Peckish (adj) - slightly hungry; wanting or needing food. Exp: I am a bit peckish, I want to eat something. 5) Trim the waistline (phrasal verb) - to keep a healthy body weight with no extra fat around the waistline Waistline (n) - the measured size of the waist; Trim (v) - to make something tidier Exp: Apples also help trim the waistline. 6) Exotic (adj) - unusual and exciting, often because of coming from a faraway place, especially a tropical country. Exp: exotic flowers or exotic food, exotic fruit such as blueberries, banana smoothies. 7) Versatile (adj) - (related to things) able to be used for many different purposes or in many different ways. Exp: Apples are versatile. Exp: He is so versatile, he will easily get another job. 8) Grate (v) - to rub into small pieces Exp: They grate apples into the porridge. 9) In good shape (expression) - healthy or in good condition. Applied paragraph: Are apples really good for people? In my opinion, I think apples can bring many health benefits to people, as the well-known proverb goes, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Scientific research shows that apple skins are full of good nutrients, including fiber, vitamins, and especially flavonoids. Flavonoids are chemical compounds that can help people reduce blood pressure and improve brain and heart health, making them useful in preventing certain types of cancer and heart disease. Therefore, instead of opting for exotic fruits like blueberries or banana smoothies, you can grab an apple for a healthy snack when you feel peckish. Apples are incredibly versatile and can be eaten in many ways, such as snacking on them, grating them into porridge, or baking them in pies. In addition, some people believe that eating apples can help trim their waistline and keep them in good shape. To sum up, apples are not only healthy but also delicious, making them a great option for a nutritious snack or addition to a meal. Bringing apples to the office for lunch can be a smart choice for anyone looking to improve their health and maintain a balanced diet. With their versatility and numerous health benefits, apples are a great choice for anyone looking for a quick and easy snack that will keep them feeling full and satisfied throughout the day. Many thanks for the video. Have a great weekend.

  • thanks BBC! My summary while listening English has many proverbs that give a piece of advice or common sense such as "actions speak louder than words", and "don't judge a book by its cover." Proverbs are found in many cultures and languages and are often passed down through generations to teach children lessons in life. One famous English proverb is "An apple a day keeps a doctor away." that means fresh fruits are good for us but is it really true, does eating apples have significant health benefits? - that's the main question to be discussing today. According to Dr. Michael Mosley, whenever he's peckish, he often snacks on an apple which is not only delicious but also improves his blood flow, boosts his brain, and trims his waistline. Also, what he loves about apples is that they are so versatile. He's been snacking on them, grating them into his porridge, and having them sliced with full-fat yogurt as a dessert. But baked apples are one of his favorite ways to consume them.
