How Does The 2020 Land Rover Defender Perform Off-Road? I Race It Against an Old One To Find Out!

(www.landroverflatirons.com) We would like to extend a huge "thanks" to our friends at Flatirons Land Rover for loaning us this new Defender to test off-road!
( www.TFLcar.com ) In this episode we take the brand new 2020 Land Rover into the woods to see how it performs off-road. To make it interesting we bring along our old, slightly clapped out 2006 Land Rover LR3 we bought for $5,500. Can the new $80,000 defender keep up with this old beast when the going gets tough? We test the new defender on the rocks, in the dirt and through some mud to find out!

    • @JF If you really have seen or would like to find out those measures about the new Defender, you wouldn't call it a total fail. Because most figures are twice even three times better than the Rubicon or the new Bronco with Sasquatch. But, if all you want to do is to make your subjective statement, then all I can say is good for you. Nowadays anything can make one happy without breaking any laws should be encouraged, right?

      @lovice@lovice3 жыл бұрын
    • JF You have got to be kidding about plastic skid protection. Anybody with some sense with change it. It does not change the fact that the Defender is a very capable machine. Independent suspension makes it an overall better vehicle. The only place independent suspension will hold you back is in the Most Extreme Rock Crawling places. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

For all their faults, they’re just epic (as is Jeep 😁) and you do the good ole, oil dribbling wagons proud. My dear dad always wanted a Defender but sadly passed before owning one. He passed that love on to me but whilst I’ve owned Land Rovers I’ve never owned a Defender. This is something I cannot pass on to my son and so one day, one day. • You can option better tires from factory. Also, because it’s the bigger engine car, it’s brakes are bigger and more grabby. Smaller engine has smaller brakes which are more progressive. You can then also get 18” wheels from factory alongside the off-road tires. Make sure the optional diff is there too. This wasn’t a test for either vehicle though really. The trail is easy. I’ve driven tougher trails in a standard L322 Range Rover with ease. We need some proper tests, not just driving on a dirt road.

  • As an LR4 owner, finally the comparo I wanted to see. Of course as an LR4 owner I also kinda already know what the new Defender will do, since it’s basically an LR5. Fun vid. Would like to have seen the Defender do Razor Rocks tho- yes I’m speaking to you Roman! Course I also understand going for the win!! Lol but as Tommy won in an older veh, question is did youth win or age win??

  • Nice video! I have a story to tell you. My dad used to have a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder. We were going to see some trains. But all of a sudden the engine started to shake because the car was getting old. And this was in 2016 or 17. We were worried that it will stop on the train tracks so we went home. Thanks for listening!

  • Excellent review! They nailed all the critical points: 1. 2:34 New "Defender" is really a tech updated Discovery 2. 5:20 Not a serious off-roader or rock climber because of delicate tires, electronics, chassis and design (you can add $4000 scratch protection :)) 3. 12:17 Any buggy, Jeep or American truck, or even old Land Rover, would be much more fun on a trail 4. 2:01 It is still overpriced to the moon 5. New Ford Bronco here I come!

  • Discovery any day! The Discovery was designed to be the best all-round car in the world, you can more or less go anywhere, you can carry you're family to school, holiday or into a desert or muddy field. I think that Discovery generation is probably the best looking Land Rover vehicle be ever and Australians tow 7,700lb travel trailers with them into the outback. A fantastic car and if I could be afford to run one in no Ireland i would but the tax system here is shit!

What I need to know, is in 100k more miles when my LR3 get tired. Will I be able to rely on a gently used 2020 Defender to get me where no one else can go?
