Descriptions such as "black as night," "black as a shoe," "black as asphalt," etc. are all horrific terms that some people feel the need to use when describing dark skin. If skin color really doesn't matter to you, you would not have had to make sure to give such a vivid, rude description of your great-grandmother's skin tone. Colorism is strong. People don't even know when they have insulted their own relatives.

Jewel dosen't seem to be the demanding type, partly because she is consumed in living every second of life in her own capibilities which she depends on no other but herself. The two of them have a lot in common. Kevin comes with baggage with others that require to be at his forefront. Jewel seems like the sort of person that will be able share Kevins attention. She will find a way if the relationship is meaningful enough to her. I think everything going on will have its place and fit in comfortably, because in the end they both are successful in their accomplishments and content.
