Mosul offensive: Fighting ISIS on the frontline in Iraq

French cameraman Olivier Sarbil spent 6 weeks embedded with an elite unit of the Iraqi special forces as they struggled to recapture the city of Mosul that had fallen to Islamic State in just two days back in June 2014. Subscribe for more exclusives: bit.ly/LtASif.
Iraq's Prime Minister says his forces, backed by coalition airpower, have taken complete control of eastern portion of Mosul. But fierce fighting continues as Iraqi soldiers continue their push.
This film was filmed and directed by Olivier Sarbil. Produced and directed by Teresa Smith, edited by Agnieszka Liggett and reported by Andy Davies. Translation by Nazar Alrawi.

    • I was in high school during the Iraq War (2000's) and whenever we would ask this, since many of our friends were sent overseas only never to come back again, they would tell us 'its not part of the curriculum'... fucken ridiculous considering many people lost family and friends. Least they could do was help us understand. Same thing when 9/11 happened. Many of us were so confused and had no idea what was going on but no one wanted to talk about it.

  • This city is my city, its name is Mosul. I was there during the battles. The soldiers were from all the provinces of Iraq, even from Mosul itself. I am now still in Mosul, and it is very safe. Whoever wants to visit it does not hesitate. Now its reconstruction has resumed as if there was no war.

The Sunni army commanders order the soldiers to throw their arms and go home. The Kurds collected weapons left behind. When the Shia force came. We wiped isis and the Kurds got scared. We managed to kick you out of kiruk using only car horns hahahahaha. If you love kiruk so much come fight for it.
