I'm in Turkey with Frank and in the last episodes we have visited an abandoned ghost town with Disney looking castles and some traditional Ottoman houses.
Now we're on our way to explore the giant cruise ship Carnival Inspiration.

Thank you for showing this the Doctor on board had video links to Docs. On shore to help on more complicated medical Emergency. Very advanced EMS systems.
So sad to see here like that. My family was lucky to be on board for 3 cruises the last year of service. They had just put all new carpet and updated a buch of stuff. Is there a way to buy things from the ship?? I would like a life ring or other thing that has her name. Cant help but wonder who got the ship model that was in the main dining room. 🚢🤠🦆🚢
As i'm currently working as an engineer in german shipbuilding on the next Carnival project, tears come to me. When you consider how many people worked on such a project and did everything to ensure that it was built in good quality and on schedule. But in order to make room for new things, the old has to go.
Ich finde es schrecklich und schön zugleich
i was a guest on this ship. it is so sad to see this amazing ship being retired..
They’re not being scrapped to make way for new ships; they’re being scrapped because there’s no cruise industry at the moment and it’s extremely expensive to keep them serviceable while not even using them.
I get the same feeling with airplanes. In airplane boneyards I see a bunch of scrapped Boeing 747s and its sad knowing that its probably the most iconic airplane ever.
@@ProFlightAviation Those 747’s have served their purpose, and have made massive amounts of money. Unfortunately, airplanes are restricted to a certain amount of “cycles”. Those “Covid” cruise ships and PRETTY MUCH ALL a380’s never served their purpose or made massive amounts of money…
I used to be a commercial diver. I've been on and under that ship various times. I've cleaned her hull, polished her props, cut tires out of her thrusters, and swam the annual inspections. This video feels strangely personal. I've had some great times on that boat, and the other carnival hulks. Just depressing to think about how hard that industry has been hit.
The industry is rebounding, these ships are well past their prime and time to go.
24 years?@@pjp7259
Pjp is right. We taking cruising back this year!
I went on the Inspiration as a kid and it’s crazy seeing her like this. So much looks so familiar yet so different.
It was refurbished a few times. It really looked like a great ship, must be great to have been on board :)
I went on it about 4-5 years ago its honestly wild that it’s just sitting there now
@@lowkz8958 that's what I'm saying I went on it when I was in 6th grade and now I'm a junior
@@lowkz8958 Ik I went on around the same time and it’s crazy to see it’s no longer running
As someone who has worked on cruise ships for the last 10 years, I find the pictures extremely sad.
Lies
@@David-hb9mf u a weirdo
I know your sadness. Isn't cruise I took was on carnival was on the Sensation. I watched the video of the ship being beached in Turkey on April 4 2022 good memories but sad
What would've made this video epic is if you had contrasted this with photos of when the ship was operational.
oh yesss!!!!
wife and I went on this ship in the mid 2000's to celebrate our engagement. Makes me sad to see the state that it is in now and what its future holds. The ship really isn't that old.
I think I saw this ship 25 years ago when it was being build as very little kid in Helsinki. Crazy how fast she retired.
Yes, it was built there😇 way too young for a ship indeed.
Can you imagine if they "retired" a 40 story office building after only 25 years? What a waste, but IMO the cruise industry as a whole is a waste.
COVID19 is the cause of this. Blame China.
@@jammi__ Actually short lifespans of cruise ships is somewhat normal in this industry. Wasteful, but normal. Covid just sped it up some. Please take your right-wing talking points elsewhere, it's exhausting and unrelated.
@@kerigpope Oh, so speaking facts is right-wing these days. Yeah, makes sense, with lefties doing nothing but spreading lies. Anyhow, the Wuhan Virological Institute is to blame for this, and the US government did fund their experiments. The fact is, these ships had a much longer planned life and would've been used without COVID19 suddenly drawing the demand to zero. Without COVID19, these could've been re-sold to other cruise companies or whatever, but the demand was zero for every other company operating ships like these as well, so they had to cut their maintenance losses and sacrifice a few of these ships in order to survive and keep on operating the newer ones.
I was a bus driver for the band 3 Doors Down, and this was the ship we were on for VH1’s Best Cruise Ever in 2010.
My dad was building this ship back in 1996. Time flies😢
1996 at Kvaerner Masa yard? It suppose to be her sister ship M/S Inspiration almost identical copy of her.
I've worked on many Carnival Ships as a Art Director including all of the ships in this video. It makes me sick to see these beautiful ships that were in perfect condition scrapped.
What is the job of artistic director? Did you participate in the organization of shows and events?
The newer ones are just boring looking
Perfect condition....er no.
Cruise ship graveyard could be a great FPS map.
Absolutely captivating. The mind-boggling amount of work that went into designing and building these floating resorts seems all but wasted, but they are all but used-up from an ancillary equipment service life standpoint.
Scrapping of that vessel has to be a challenging operation, inside her hull is a labyrinth of small spaces, bulkheads, storerooms, kabins. Plenty of asbestos inside, oil, and other toxic stuff. Cargo vessels are empty hull, but this hull is full of materials
@@davorbatinic7594 No asbestos in those ships. They were made after all that.
Man it hits different seeing that thing all abandoned, I remember me and my sister always getting icecream each morning in the buffet, it is inconceivable how what seemed like paradise can all just leave in the snap of finger.
its heartbreaking when you see how much work was poured into this
Why don't the scrapers drop the lifeboats before they crash the ship's into each other at the dock and crush them!? They could be re-used or converted into smaller boats surely? Doesn't seem very clever to smash all the easily removable ancillaries. That's a job for life ripping out all the interiors of these gigantic floating cities!
My wife and I had our 25th anniversary on this ship in 2016. It’s saddening to see this ship in such a state. But time goes on. Thank you for the video.
Would have been good to see the different cabins/suites
Blown away by the video quality!
Normal episodes are better! I could only make pictures in this place
you guys go beyond exploring with your history bits and slow enough to take in the beauty of these once vibrant places, keep up the fantastic videos.
Having worked in the marine industry for 25 years, this is total waste of resources.
If you've worked in marine industry for 25 years, you'd know that old ships get scrapped all the time.
@@phillxor most ships don't get decommissioned/scrapped after 25 years.
@@PenguinWhispererThe most don't, but if they're done making money they do.
Yes, but what's the alternative? Who'd spend millions a month on minimal maintenance of these, when nobody operating these anywhere in the world want the liability of maintenance. The company tries to save their other ships by cutting this liability out of their fleet, and still will have trouble staying afloat as a company.
Cruise ships in general are gross. All the effort and resources for what? Massive vessel that lasts maybe 25-30 years, just full of bars, restaurants. Mindless consumption. It’s pointless.
That’s wild, I would have thought that these ships would have a lifespan longer than 25 years!
They have but no income uder corona they go bankrupt. It is incredible how much money is needed to keep them in shape even in a harbour. Also no one want to buy them right now, so scrapping is the only way to get rid of these money pits.
They are not cost efficient. Engines are old school, water filtration emissions and even design for crew is old. Like aircraft eg 747 is costly per hour v other modern planes.
Thanks for uploading this video. I sailed on the Inspiration numerous times, the last time being in 2017 for my wife and I's Honeymoon. It really was a nice ship, especially considering it's age. It will be missed.
Breathtaking footage. Fantastic work. It's so sad to see these beautiful ships and to think for the longest time these bars, pools, corridors would have been bustling with people.
It’s crazy how four years ago I was having the time of my life on the carnival inspiration, and now it’s ceased operations. I was having fun in the promenade deck, the water park on the rooftop, and the golf course.
27 years seems such a short amount of time, but these ships remain in constant operation for most of their working lives. They can quickly become antiquated and undesirable by passengers looking for the next wow.
Inspiration was my first big ship. Beautiful memories from my past and my father. Was a wonderful ship.
Loved seeing the inside. It’s really so sad seeing this once bustling ship just sitting there waiting out her past days. I’m sure that in her heyday she ruled the oceans, but for now she’ll forever reside in the memories of those that sailed on her. Thanks for sharing 🛳️
Wow this video was a trip. Worked as a performer in 1998-1999, so the ship was home for almost a year. So many memories...
this magical meditation music makes me think about life, thank you!
Really enjoyed this type of video Bob... Liked the panning of images along with your commentary and title graphics. The sound track was perfect and I liked the occasional shots with you guys in view. And of course I would be remiss without giving a SPECIAL thank you to your visit to the engine room and support facilities. Wonderful Job!!
Been on this ship 3 times in the last 4 years. Love the burger place and the buffet. So sad to see it's being dismantled.
Wow, they let the designers go wild on this ship. I loved this!
Yes love these designs! Nowadays they all have the same style
I was admiring the designs, also. I realized that, to many people, the interiors are “over-designed”. But, to me, I adore the attention to detail: imaginative theming, contrasting materials that create layers of texture, dramatic use of scale, the fantasy use of lots of color, all that! Which is why my imagination is captured in themed environments found in Las Vegas , especially in the 1990s. All entertaining, stimulating, magical!! So bored with plain, straight, minimal color that is “in” now in interior design.
A lot of this still looks brand new, I’m surprised they don’t let you like buy anything or salvage anything from the ship, when it’s time to get rid of it
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath Joe Farcus, Carnival's designer of this era.
@@bodyloverz30 Yes, I found out when I was searching information of the ship. Thanks a lot :)
This is so crazy to see. I was on this ship back in 2018 for my 21st. Such good memories!
Just incredible, Bob the places you go around the world simply amaze me and inspire me , I wish Australia had 10% of the places you go too . Love your work.
Great video - this was the first cruise I was on embarking from Puerto Rico in 1997. So sad to see what’s become of it but nonetheless, great memories where had there.
Thank you for showing some of the crew only areas. Much appreciated.
Super excited for this episode🚢
I will always wonder why so much hard work that has gone into these beautiful ships are just destroyed. Its such a shame.
Money problems due to covid maybe?
@@deadly1246 no shit Sherlock
@@deadly1246 not due to covid but due to restrictions, dont forget that.
I know in less than 30 years it's garbage. Strange.
Human throw away society at its worst sickening all the resources used for such a short life span of that ship sickening
That’s crazy! Those ships look brand new! Well, they did. It’s amazing how quickly they deteriorate!
The last of many times I sailed on the Inspiration was in 2008. She was a beautiful ship and I have so many great memories and photos from my cruises on this vessel. Thank you for this video. It's heart breaking to see her like this but I understand why it had to be done. I hate this pandemic so much. I'm going to miss this ship, can't wait to sail aboard the new ship that calls Long Beach, CA it's home port.
That was really special Bob. The music was perfect. I'd love to have that Shakespeare library in my house. Thanks!
Thanks Joe, not a regular episode but a really unique one😊😊 the library was great and pretty big!
Its probably for sale!
Joe, if you had the means to get it home from Turkey you could probably make an offer. There's a guy in California who makes a living going to this yard and the one in Alang and sending home collectibles which he then sells.
I bet that scrappyard in Turkey have a constant garage sale of ship's equipment, and cruise memorabilia, so grab your money and fly to Turkey, ASAP. Maybe you gonna get a complimentary Fun Ship Special a plastic cocktail glass.
I've been subscribing to you since your Fukushima video. I did not comment. You make good video content. Greetings from Turkey.
Thanks a million Ünsal! Hopefully more epic adventures coming up soon! Seems borders open up a little
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPathThank you so much. I'm looking forward to new adventures.
Some years ago, I used to go on the inspiration all the time, and it’s nice to finally see that one part of the mini-golf course I missed, the canyon hole.
Holy shit! That’s the ship I was on when my family went on a cruise 15 years ago! It brought back so many memories.
Thank you for sharing. What a massive ship.
Ongelooflijk mooie tijd gehad en supergeweldig leuk om jullie terug te zien, Enorme complimenten daarvoor.
In days past old ships were used for prisons and Military housing. These ships hardly seem ready for scrapping
Refitted in 2016. They weren't ready for scrapping by a long shot. Covid-19 really destroyed this sector.
In days old, they didn't care about inhumane conditions for prisoners and wounded soldiers. The ships they took in days old were in good condition liners planned for decades of operation before the war broke out and their maintenance was neglected even in days old to the degree they weren't worth their weight in scrap metal after the war. The same goes on here, either they spend the millions a month to maintain them or they neglect them, quickly turning them into scrap metal and selling them to a scrapper before the neglect means they become a liability instead of still worth their price in scrap and fancy 2nd hand furniture.
I've never been on a cruise ship but they look amazing. I would so love to explore a retired abandoned Cruise ship. So much detail that have been put into these.
I traveled on the Inspiration back in 2005 with my wife and kids. Imagination too the previous year. Sad to see them gone.
The music is so relaxing. 😌
There is a heart of wonder and exuberant artistry that went into these designs that just aren't replicated in newer ships. In a better, less shallow world, this would have been converted into a museum ship.
Thank You for sharing. I've sailed on the Inspiration & Imagination many times through out the years from the port of Long Beach California to Catalina Island & Ensenada Mexico. They were fun quick 4 - 5 day trips as well as New Years Eve Cruises . So sad to see them both go. Thanks for the footage and a last look at the ships.
in the first 30 seconds I was thinking, this channel is about to blow up! Great content! Subbed!
My first cruise and many to come were on the Fantasy. Many good memories with family that are no longer here. It makes me sad to see her gone. My Dad's last cruise was on the Carnival Miracle in 2004. This year is 20 years he's gone. Miss you Dad ❤
❤Amazing pictures well done
Love the fantasy trance backing music...😉👍
This video gave me tears😢 I know it’s stupid to be so sad about a cruise ship but, carnival is my home away from home
My very first cruise ship.
ive been on this ship two times. loved the fun experiences she brought me.
Must have been an amazing experience!
I've been on that ship in 2000. Thanks for the memories
Amazing! I really loved the ship and would’ve loved to see it sailing😇
The best at urban exploring is knowing there once was life, places filled with people. To see that huge contrasr
The videos are just amazing
I’ve been on that ship back in 2002. 7 day cruise out of Tampa. I have the video log they did for our cruise. Great video
I was aboard the Inspiration from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico to Catalina Island and back in October, 2016. Its surreal seeing the state of the ship I was on for my first (and still only) cruise and now knowing that it no longer exists having been scrapped.
This was the first cruise I went on in the summer of 2017, it was a 4 day Catalina- Ensenada cruise from long beach, I had so much fun on the ship, and they had really good food. The one thing I didn’t like was that the cabin was really small, but I got to sleep on one of those beds that hang from the wall, and I got room service almost every morning.
Your video quality is amazing, music perfect. I'm stunned at all the work that went into fitting out this ship, just amazing. And seems like a waste but everything has its day. I was on her sister ship. Bye-bye.
Amazing how fast they deteriorate.
Kind of amazing some of what was left of the ships for the scrappers .:)
*_Immer wieder schön_*
Great video, thank you :)
Just think of all the good times and all the great memories had on these cruise ships. It's sad it came to this.
this brings back memories from my cruise :)
Sad to see her go. I too travelled on board and really loved this ship
Nice meditation music, I'm dozing off & don't even have my ear buds on!
5:34 Oh my god my sunglasses still there exactly where I left.
AMAZING VIDEO!
wow. incredible location.
It’s crazy to see the fantasy like that!! I have the time of my life on that ship
Great video, makes me sad to see those ships go so early in their life, waste of resources
The reason why these ships are being scrapped instead of sold to another cruise line is because the cruise lines that used to buy old ships have all went out of business.
Weer vol verbazing zitten kijken. Vooral ook de muziek die je uitkiest bij de beelden maakt het iedere week weer een waar genot voor oog en oor.
Makes me cry.
My wife and I went on our honeymoon on this ship… it’s sad to see something that you made wonderful memories on finally come to an end. I’ve been on newer and larger ships since then that evolved to a better layout for the passenger, BUT the Fantasy class ships did have some of the most elegant lines you’ll ever see for a cruise ship.
i went on the inspiration to mexico the same time as that Philippine tsunami. we also had 17 foot waves. lots of people got sick the first day. my dad was still alive then. i was a little kid. crazy to think about. i remember the little library there
awesome photos and footage. very enjoyable
Thanks ! Normally I make videos with 100% video material but now I could only make pictures. Thanks for watching😁
Wow unbelievable !
The inspiration was my first cruise ever I had good memories on that ship.
this ship had nice resturants ad nice pool and nice gym
Enjoyed the video
Many of the ships that were scrapped during the pandemic were older ships that had been laid up for a while costing money in storage etc waiting works for one reason or another for example a refit or other major works and they became more valuable as scrap and were a quick way to raise much needed funds instead of costing lines money in a time of no earning and ongoing business costs. Sadly some smaller lines without such resources went out of business and the ships still went for scrap, one ship nearly went for scrap before its float out but another established line bought it. I think one or two of these carnival ships had been laid up for four years and carnival decided with the increased desire for balconies and the cost of storing them and eventual refit etc they’d be more value and could earn more money releasing cash quickly than wait for the industry to recover, then refit them but they still won’t have the much needed balconies making them dated by modern standards so were better to scrap them, and later replace them with modern ships that meet todays cruising needs.
They should build a ship city and make a harbor of all these ships and people could live on them. I definitely would!
Super Cool !! Keep doing this !!!
Thanks! Check out the coolest adventures episode since we couldn’t film here
I’ve been on Imagination and Inspiration several times. It’s so sad to see 😢. All the memories on those ships. Felt like I was at a funeral 😭
I went on Fantasy back in 2011. It’s crazy to see it like that
Even pre-covid a cruise would be my idea of hell... awesome photography as always though!
They’re actually very fun but I understand where ur coming from
Went on this ship in 2016 & 2019 thats frickin crazy bro. Guys burgers was the spot 🔥
I remember going on a Carnival Cruise when I was a kid. Come to find out it was one of the smaller ships since then. But it was huge at the time.
It’s crazy seeing a ship you were on look like this.
That´so sad, this is a beautiful ship.
I was on the Inspiration and Imagination before...it was some great times!!😢
