The 2021 Amstel Gold Race ended in an impossibly close photo finish between Wout Van Aert and Tom Pidcock. In the ensuing days, there has been a lot of speculation and doubt surrounding the accuracy of that official finish line photo.
Was the camera improperly placed? Did Tom Pidcock's tire cross the black stripe first? Was Tom Dumoulin somehow involved?

Can someone please explain to me why UCI cycling has the "finish" in the middle of the finish line, rather than the front edge of the finish line?
It's ridiculous to put the camera that far before the line. Great to see Andy Hollinger, I remember him from my amateur racing days in north TX 20+ years ago.

Photofinish is what matters according to the rulebook. That line is the actual finish. Wout got there first. Also the camera placement had been checked. So i am guessing everything was in order. Also wout his wheel was in the air. That makes pidcock look ahead.

Problem is, the UCI does what it wants. Nothing changes. There is no solidarity in the peleton. The fact that tossing a bidon to a fan is illegal while dangerous finish line barriers still exist is all you need to know.
