The monsters are real this time. I feel that was important enough of a statement that they should have made it the tagline, Other than that though there is no difference from the previous games. So here are the sins of House of Ashes.

Jason and Salim's friendship was the best part of the game.
Salim? omg. Beyond: Two Souls flashback...
Can they coexist? It’s like a wrestling tag team cliche.
@@jakespacepiratee3740 Don't even remind me about this stupid game.
yes
Jason sucked but Salim was cool. This whole game was a goddamn clusterfuck. I liked all the other titles except this one. Never understood why people adored it so badly. A lot of clichés, horror tropes and bad writing.
I served 3 tours in Iraq from 2003 to 2005 when I was in the Marine Corps. I didn't see a single damn alien vampire. I did see a lot of other types of vampires though. But that's only because I spent 90% of my time sitting on my ass, playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on my GBA. Also, that knucklehead who made that comment about women bossing him around would have had his shit pushed in by the C.O. Even the military has rules against sexual harassment.
I know right??? That's a nice way to get court Marshall
Sounds like you had a better game too, then.
No he wouldn't. He would have been yelled at for about 15 seconds. At most. Besides, women wouldn't be flying in helicopters like that as a combatant. She's not a WO and she's not flying the helicopter.
@@marishiten5944 You're probably right. I was a POG. You know how they're more about the dog and pony show than the actual mission.
Correct to an extent.
20:25 Actually you do get a hint that there is an eclipse. In the first chapter where you play as Eric, one of the computers says a total solar eclipse is coming in a few hours. It's easy to miss, but it is there.
Still worth a sin if none of the characters who were preparing for a raid knew about it despite an eclipse being a great way to sneak into the chemical weapon storage
@@lucasmillerthelewderofloli9327 The driving motivation is that they had to began the raid asap. (So the "WMDs" won't be relocated.) What I find a sin is perhaps the duration of the setting. I think the entire campaign only lasted about 10 hours? The protagonist escaped by the afternoon.
@@yharnamiyhill787 no hate, but it's because you play as multiple people, I guess, like you play 30 minutes as Jason and the same 30 minutes as Salim, for example
@@lucasmillerthelewderofloli9327 and I know it's a military operation but just like earlier in the game when the guy pointed out that an eclipse should only last about 6 minutes at most during the prologue same thing hear a play maby 6 minutes to enact that operation when to there knowledge it would have been fine if it weren't for the ambush and cave
Im pretty sure someone also explicitly mentions the enclipse at some point. Also we saw an exlipse at the start of the game, doesnt take a genius to realise that since we're fighting creatures who cant be in the sun and we have seen an eclipse itll probably happen again
The sin about the Akkadians not speaking their native language can be forgiven. Because nobody speaks an extinct bronze age language anymore, nor do we now how it sounded (simliar to latin) or what the grammar was like.
That doesnt make a difference since the devs also didnt care to research the language and dialect iraqis speak , salim and dar were speaking in an egyptian dialect which is extremely diffrent from the iraqi dialect
Actually we do know how Empire Latin sounded, it was kinda different from the Ecclesiastical one
So from what I recall, Supermassive isn't reusing actors for these games, but rather just reusing the same character models with different actors playing them. I was just surprised they didn't model Salim after his actor since Nick E. Tarabay is reasonably well-known.
I think they didn’t model Salim after Nick Tarabay because they had Ashley Tisdale being the celebrity model for Rachel. I’m not sure how well known Ashley Tisdale is globally, but I know in the US she was pretty popular on Disney Channel
I don't think Nick E. Taraby is not that well known, since he was featured in media that is not that main stream. Ashley Tisdale was more recognizable than him, since she made a gen z following. Her role in High School Musical and Phineas and Ferb also helped her to be more recognizable.
Also, it's supposed to be a story reacuring characters, maybe ?
A sin im sure its okay you missed since you dont actually speak the language but why the heck were the iraqis speaking in Egyptian Arabic and not iraqi arabic? They are different accents
All Arabic is the same, right?-the devs, probably.
I think it might be because that's the kind of arabic the actors know. The guy voicing Salim is from Lebanon - I'm not sure how close a dialect and accent there would be to someone who's Egyptian or Iraqi. The guy voicing Dar though is actually of Egyptian descent. Just a guess. They could have tried to find actors who are actually Iraqi though, or can at least pull off the right accent.
@@dreamfall815 im Egyptian, that was definitely Egyptian Arabic
@@crankthetank3581 I picked up a little Arabic at one point preparing for a possible rotation that never came, and was warned that a lot of the Arabic language sources in the US at least are Egyptian Arabic. Apparently it's similar to learning English back in the day for a lot of folks before US pop culture really dominated the air waves. You'd either learn English with a British accent because it was the dominant dialect, or in a more American influenced area you'd commonly learn what's called a "Continental" accent, or a Newsreader Accent. To my understanding Egyptian Arabic's kinda in the same boat, as a primary dialect for media in Arabic, because the vast majority of other speakers can cleanly understand the Egyptian dialect, and it holds the largest single population of speakers for anyone dialect of Arabic. That's half remembered from my instructor, so don't quote me on it, but it probably explains the situation to a degree.
@@kalashnikovdevil probably. But interesting enough usually when characters speak Arabic in games it's usually either Egyptian or classical dialect
To be fair, as a vet that used those radios, you could have line of sight and those fuckin things wouldn't work so the rock blocking the signal is kinda reasonable. Embrace the suck is also the unofficial moto of the USMC
"We love you long time" - Space Vamps apparently?
Ain't that the damn truth about the radios... we literally bought $90 radios and switched frequencies throughout the convoys because the radios were hot garbage... not the carcinogenic hot garbage but close enough
Wait embrace the suck is a real saying??? I'm surprised that I haven't seen marine memes about that yet.
Imo the best out of the three games. Actually fun characters and interesting story
Ong and it actually had monsters in it , not drugs or hallucinations
Personally I disagree on the fun Characters for the majority of the US team but the rest of the game was interesting. Was actually wondering what they were going to write the vampires as being so it just being face value after the first two was a little out of place in the series to me personally.
Yeah the story was fantastic, Eric and Rachel were horrible characters tho, their acting was also really bad for the most part, loved Jason and Salim and the vampire aliens were amazing too
Fun characters? Ok my friend, the story is amazing but characters are terrible. Enough terrible so I could kill them all with a smile on my face.
agreed. everyone was actuaLLy LikabLe weLL at Least the pLayabLe characters
I just realized that Selim is basically the Magical Negro trope. He's the non white person who inexplicably have all the best wisdom and insight
They could have made him just as bigoted toward Jason and have them BOTH grow out of their preconceptions but I think the devs wanted to avoid portraying any Muslim as hateful...
@@Zinlain I think that was my main dislike about Salim, unless you’re controlling Salim and go out of your way to be as intolerant as possible, he’s basically some perfect being who bares no hatred towards anyone else and is more than happy to be working with his enemies, it’s kind of why I prefer Jason since he feels a lot more human and actually grows from the experience assuming you played normally
@@Zinlain Salim’s commander (who was a Muslim) was pretty much the only unredeemable human character and an avid American hater who attacked Eric’s team after his government fell and even in that underground tomb. Salim seems to be just a kind dude overall, nothing wrong with having pure heroes in games every once in a while.
"We shouldn't be racist by making the only non-white good guy a dumbass. So let's overcorrect in the other direction by making him unnaturally intelligent."
@@SalvageET Salim can be hateful, but tone done for example he can yell he does not trust the Marines before the huge shoot out. Another example is threatning Nick, he says he can feed him to the vampires. So he is not a kind as the fans portray him.
“The monsters are vampires.” **Insert Morbius joke here**
lol
Do they hunger for plasma?
Morbin time
Vampires are cool.
You know it's a good Dartigan video when he sums up the game in over 2 minutes. That, or he just want the video to hit the 10 minute mark. Will still watch it for both mine and his interest.
Even without the stretched out 1st sin, the videos are always around 20 to 30 minutes, often even more. So that isn't the reason. It's something he started doing about a year ago to mainly hand out his blunt opinion on the game, because in his older videos the first sin was as quick as all the others
@@JThePervertedSummoner I know, I have seen his older videos. I mean I have never seen his first sin being 2 minutes long.
despite its flaws, house of ashes is definitely the best of the dark picture games, and salim and jason's friendship is my favorite thing. Also please do the quarry next, since you may as well cover all the supermassive games lol
True, but I could have lived without the “they’re actually aliens” twist. would have been dope to just have standard and mutant vampires crawling around in there
I was able to discover an additional 10% of the ocean and assist the development on a cure for cancer. All while you were explaining the first sin.
When he said "insane rich kid from until dawn" did he mean josh? Aka rami malek? Cause if so then where in the hell was rami malek in this game??
Yeah i highly doubt they can afford him anymore
I highly doubt that Joey is Josh because they can't use the Until Dawn models, or at least won't use.
Joey has the same model as Daniel in Little Hope. i think Dartigan just had his words mixed up
The wording had to have been messed up because no one from the cast of Until Dawn is in house of ashes.
He wasn't. The character claimed to be using the same model is Joey who uses the same model as the judge in Little Hope. None of the Until Dawn characters are reused
I guess we should consider the characters lucky that no one was affected by Pazuzu. Otherwise, they might've chucked a priest down a flight of stairs.
I feel like Pazuzu would have made this game A LOT more interesting.
19:55 actually you can find out in game that when vampires hunt they make a prey feel intense fear first. The high level of adrenaline in prey's blood helps vampires see them better and they enjoy stressed flesh ig. So when Nick went setting bombs he was prepared to die, therefore had no fear of death or anything and that's why all vampires just stood there doing nothing to him cuz they barely saw him
I believe that they actually feed on the adrenaline in their preys blood so they need their prey to be scared in order to get nutritional value
Another sin you missed was that during the flashback vision thing, the asteroid is about to hit an earth that has a Suez canal. So therefore the aliens arrived after world war 2, or the dev team didn't bother to map a pre Suez canal world.
honestly the ending of this game is so balls to the fucking wall i loved it.
The girl looking like the cafeteria lady is haunting my mind, its soo true.
She’s hot in real life too. They did her dirty.
@@deepvoicedude4749 remember when CGI was used to make poeples more attractive instead of uglyer.
@@alfasilverblade ahhh yes, before the dark times
what girl are you talking about?
@@j8457 watch the first couple minutes of the video
You do see a second generator down with Dar and Salim. That's why the lights work in the later parts of the game. They must have started it up.
I won’t deep dive into every mistake in this video, but Rami Malek wasn’t in it, the vampires got a pool of blood as the shepherds had been feeding them sacrifices (hinted on by some Americans going missing and Rachel finding their ID-cards in the pool), and the satellite is mentioned-ish in the beginning when there’s a pretty big screen showing it before and after the briefing.
love how nothing you said about the voice actors were right insane
They acutally don't use the same actor for every game, they reuse the same character models and hire new voice actors. If you check IMDB you will see that the same person who played Nick in House of Ashes is a different actor than Alex from Man of Medan but same character model. Same goes for Taylor in Little Hope and Clarice in House of Ashes. All the games do this, its probably cheaper to reuse character models and hire new voice talent than to contract the same voice actors for multiple games.
That's the problem. Model characters should look different so they could finally be creative.
Question for everyone the blonde female soldier is Ashley Tisdale right?
I never noticed how many flaws there were in this, lol. They had no reason to keep going down, unless they were worried Iraqis were around or up there. Still though, good point that they could've gone up to the surface to get their signal to contact for help.
When I first saw this game's setting I was half expecting the big bad monster to be a shape-shifting Jinn or something (which would make sense given the setting), but upon realizing they went with "space vampires" I'm honestly disappointed it wasn't the Jinn. 16:44 I always hate in stories like this where the characters have undeniable evidence that something is real, but still stubbornly deny the existence of the thing they've already seen with their own 2 eyes! -__- 17:50 I'm assuming these games all take place in the same universe as "Until Dawn", so monsters always existed they just decided to go down the "psychological horror" route instead of embracing the madness and turn this series into the video game equivalent of "Tales from the Crypt".
Until Dawn is it's own stand-alone game. Only games in the Dark Pictures Anthology is canon in the universe.
@@allniner87 Still it's kinda sad that Until Dawn is their only gud game. Even the quarry sucks as a stand-alone game.
"Doesn't see it the monster for the first half" but one of the first thing Salim does is kill a monster
I also have to take away the sin for Salim staking the Vampires, there is an actual explanation for that. In one of the medical files it was mentioned that the Parasite nests itself ontop of the heart.
Also you asked the question why Alien Vampires should live up to the Vampire lore, I think the game tries to say that from these creature the legends of the Vampires and therefore their lore came from
Which makes no sense as Vampires have european origins and they are rather recent folk monster.
It's a video game guys it ain't real life
True but this is game sins. Overthinking realism is the point.
@@0v_x0 Yeah, if this stuff isn't sinned the why the hell are we watching this
Aliens came to Earth on an asteroid sounds familiar… isn’t that from Final Fantasy Spirits Within?
Gonna admit I've been waiting for this for a while. I was not disappointed.
Salim is the only character I truly liked in this game and didn't want to see die
Well said bro.
Maybe The Quarry will be better... hopefully. And I think the characters being the same has to do with some weird overarching story with the Dark Pictures, with the Curator being like an evil captor- but it’s a hell of a way to save money and time as well.
I just finished the quarry. Basically just imagine if Until Dawn took place in summer and that’s The Quarry.
@@deepvoicedude4749 Took the words right out of my mouth. There’s so much The Quarry borrowed from Until Dawn, it’s pretty crazy. Like, I know it’s supposed to be a spiritual successor, but a lot of it really feels copy/paste
Great video as always and one vote for The Medium please.
i forgot actors in film/tv can be voice actors too, so I was shocked to discovery ashley tisdale from High School Musical, plays Rachel and Rami Malek is in this too, he played Josh in until dawn
Sure, the game is cliche as fuck, but you gotta admit that Salim and Jason are the two best characters in the game.
I'm surprised this video is not just you saying "Rachel X Nick X Eric love triangle" for 22 minutes
Anyone else miss the jump scare star wipes?
I’m glad he did this game. I thought he wouldn’t.
I was wondering during my playthrough recently if you had made a video on this one yet. Talk about good timing. I liked this game quite a lot. I'm a sucker for these Syfy style horror "movies". I'd love to hear your thoughts on medium, another one that I actually enjoyed.
Seems fitting to do “The Quarry” after this video. I love your videos Dartigan. You always make me laugh and love when you point out such simple plot points that make no sense that normally we would all easily overlook
How does this series look low budget and high budget at the same time? 20:32 Also to be fair, even if Eric never discovered the vampire's weakness, if someone just asks when the eclipse ends out of nowhere for no reason, I'm going to assume it's their weakness. Especially since these things live underground, it's not hard to put two and two together.
Been waiting for this
amazing how even in the year 2022, creatures like zombies, vampires, demons, etc are shrouded in mystery in every single horror game or movie. As if the characters have been living under a rock and have never heard of any of those myths before in their life. When in reality, every single child with a hint of imagination is fascinated by vampires and zombies. Which is why there's about a thousand games and movies about them. It's mainstream horror-fantasy. So if the characters have no flippin idea what's a "Vampire", i'm going to assume they were born in a lab and have severe autism, much like the author of said characters.
At least in From Dusk till Dawn they ask if anyone has read a real book on vampires and aren't just going off pop culture stuff they've seen. Not a smart movie by any means but I appreciated that bit.
Because obviously, autism is bad. If you look up famous people who had autism, you would see how long that list is.
I know right?! It's an even bigger problem in zombie movies/games because there it's like nobody has ever even heard of a zombie and they go out of their way not to use the word. In most vampire movies/games it's more that nobody believes they're real, but they still at least know what they are. Frankly, this game might have been better served if monster was a shape-shifting Jinn, because at least then it would be more reasonable to believe the characters don't know anything about it.
@@cartooncritique6625 or any number of ancient Mesopotamian mythological creatures considering that's the setting they chose. I mean they grabbed a relatively obscure mythology to most people and....vampires. that's what they went with
@@MrDalisclock I guess they thought they were being "creative" by making them SPACE vampires...I guess nobody told them they already tried that back in the 80s with "Lifeforce".
Ay!!! Glad ya made this dartigan!
I think you should play these type games multiple times as intended to do a proper sin video cause my playthrough was very different and I feel like you missed out on so much info
2:00 yeah, I noticed that too. No way would such handsome men compete so hard for such a plain Jane. Eric looks like he could be Chris Evans' body double...
Been looking forward towards seeing you make a video on this game. Been waiting since the game came out.
Another excellent video! My vote for the next game to be sinned is the quarry. Let the supermassive train continue lol
While I agree to you about the last two ames I really liked House of Ashes. Also aliens are used rather often in horror and it tends to work well, I don't think saying goofy is fair to that. But I will admit the question why they didn't just climb out is one I always asked me
well, I think the reason they didn't just climb out was they tought they were in the hidden weapon silo and when they realised there were monsters the way out was blocked by them.
Sin #20: I would also like to add that the Iraqi soldiers aren't even speaking the Iraqi Arabic dialect, they're speaking in the Egyptian dialect
Well Salim's actor is Lebanese(-American) and Dar's is indeed of Egyptian origin. Probably wasn't worth the trouble for a difference that only a very small amount of people would notice.
I look forward to these every month let me tell you
I've been looking forward to this
Thank you Dartigan!
Good video, I vote for The Quarry.
Again play the game earlier in the game it foreshadows echo location when it talks about bats
I vote Quarry. I feel like it can be done more easily for just one video.
Quarry had not really good ending.
@@icy6673 it has a lot of endings and some of them are good
5:42 Yeah. In addition to potentially getting the piss beat out of him, random guy and blonde girl here actually have grounds for getting court-martialed for being culpable to adultery. That’s a thing in the US military.
I was waiting for someone to mention that.
It's a reason to be court-martialed for this specific reason to
Interesting. What's the reasoning behind that?
@@Mintylight Because it creates serious bad blood among people with full access to automatic weapons and explosives, in addition to, in this case, undermining the authority of Lt. Col. King and possibly clouding his judgement (he may for instance send the jody boy and his squad on a suicide mission in the hopes of getting rid of him).
@@bendakstarkiller1270 They should simply forbid all types of romantic and sexual relationships if they expect people to get unprofessional about it. Solves alot of potential problems then. Including all the widows and widowers created by war. Soldiers surely perform better as well if they don't have to worry about some loved one/s?
I will at admit i was disappointed by this game when i learned that space vampires were the enemy the reveal trailer had me believing that pazuzu was gonna be the main antagonist
Personally I'm just glad the monsters were actually real this time. They pulled the "It's actually all just hallucinations" twist twice in the series, so this was a step in the right direction
@@JThePervertedSummoner im glad they used real enemies i just feel the reveal trailer was misleading even if pazuzu was revealed to be the cause of the vampires instead of aliens or parasites wouldve been better
Yeah ..... That is not how relationships work. Not unless Eric is a simp with no backbone. You dump that garden tool immediately and leave. That's why you shouldn't ever marry.
I was waiting a minute for this
The mighty gamen sins
Waiting for this bruh for so LONG
The curator is like a bird twitching his head so often.
•”You’re tactic is to get closer so they can’t shoot u?” 🤣 •”u want to read that Line like you’re actually in fight with someone” you’re responses are so great
7:15 I'm adding a sin here cuz these Iraqi soldiers are speaking Arabic in an Egyptian accent.
My wife really likes this type of games and she made me play through all 4 Dark Pictures games. It was a total pain. Laughable settings and barely coherent plots, zero to absolute zero gameplay. The last one was at least tense which you can't say about the first three...
Since a clip is just the predecessor of the magazine, the slang term is understandable.
Jason sounds like he’s doing an impression of John bernthal
asking dartigan for another time to make a retro game sins video on deus ex
hey Dart's back nice🎉
gasoline doesn't necessarily stop working past the 6 month mark, i've seen vids of old ass cars starting with like 10yo gasoline.
Can you do the Sinking City? Its a Silent Hill Lovecraftian inspired horror game
Small note Rachel didnt know Eric was arriving then. Which is clearly stated by her. For someone who complains about spoonfeeding and subtelty its a bit funny to miss this😂 Additioanlly the research team that was down there before wasnt only down there for a day. Pretty sure they spent like a whole year in and out of those ruins! And if you explored, youd find an ID of a person in the blood pit with Rachel, that indicates people have been going missing and probably been sacrificed to the alien vampires. The shepheard in the hut also says "youll find out" or whatever when Rachel asks about the effigy, which tells me that they KNOW the eclipse was coming and possible know abt the alien vampires. So perhaps someones been sacrificing people to them? Idk though
8:52 you described a chimney. I don't think that's the actual answer, but that's basically what a chimney is.
You learnt too from your mistake, you wrote "Gamen Sins on the vid" 😂 then fixed it but yea, nice vid as usual
That’s not Rami Malek from Until dawn with the glasses. what’re u talking about?
Great vid 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
The insane rich kid from Until Dawn was played by Rami Malek, the guy with glasses in this game is clearly not Rami Malek
Ding
That school lunchlady is Ashley Tisdale, aka Sharpay Evans from the High School Musical movies. 😂😂 She has a legion of fans, a younger me included. Her depiction in this game isn't flattering, but this ain't High School Musical. 😂😂😂
I thought the girl looked like Ashley Tisdale. It is not Ashley Tisdale. It is the Lunch Lady.
Very curious to see The Medium sinned!
do mass effect 2 and 3
Wow, longest sin to start. This is gonna be good
I know it’s not a video game but can you do RE Degeneration since it takes place in the time line of the Resident evil video games.
Thanks for finally making this video. Don’t know why it took so long though
Jason Looks Like A Blend of Scout In Team Fortress, And Michael Cera.
This was still the best game in this anthology. I enjoyed the story a lot despite some of the goofiness.
Good game, hopefully the Quarry doesn’t suck
Did that one dude look at Eclipse? Well, his eyes are screwed
The Quarry next please!
Space vampires? This will get sold very well.
i would like to see the sin video for The Medium
Iron was out wayyyy before you were told it was made into bars. They been used for bars.
I vote The Medium! I have no idea what that game is but based on the short bit I saw it seemed interesting.
At least they didn’t do the “hallucination” plot twist of third time.
Yes that's a plus.
Let's face it. They weren't planning to recast like 85% of their former casts. This game was always bordering on cancellation and To state is their recognizable pull. It was budgetary.
About the sins, the more the merrier? Also can you do both games?
Gas lasts between a year and a year and a half, actually. It doesn't degrade within a few months.
They actually make 2 of the games every year. Not 1 every year. House of ashes was just delayed because of covid. But they release them 6 months of eachother
4:51 Bullshit, I actually love Choose your own Adventure books
