The New California Republic - Legion War | New Vegas Cartography

The biggest conflict in the wasteland is undoubtedly the multi year struggle between the burgeoning NCR, and savage Legion, dueling for the fate of the gem of the Mojave -- New Vegas, and its power house -- Hoover Dam. We look at the conflict, map the entirety of it and all the events that lead up to the start of the game, and then examine what an absolute victory scenario looks like for both the NCR and the Legion.

And there is no feeling of territory, the sense that the specific faction owns an area and is in competition with another. In Bethesda fallout, factions dont have a presence. they may only have 1 base, which they concentrate on.

The shady sands discrepency has been addressed, the chalkboard denoted the "fall of shady sands" then an arrow, followed by a nuke. Notice the arrows separating all other historic points on said chalk board without any reference to how many years passed. • Have yet to watch the video but I do hope it covers one topic that is rarely touched. Namely, Legion's logistics. After all, they have: relatively lightly populated territory, no civillian administration to extract resources from said population, no or very light tax burden on the surviving people and no higher tech supply delivery method like rail, meaning they are subject to the wagon equatuon. Yet they somehow manage to establish and maintain a large permanent base for about a year in the middle of a desert. Quoth Benny: "How in the goddamn?"

    @Altom941@Altom94110 күн бұрын
    • They have plenty of civilians back East and they have to pay a "tribute". It's not basic taxes like the NCR but probably more of a weekly/monthly type thing.

      @FlakoDaDon-Dada@FlakoDaDon-Dada9 күн бұрын
    • There are a few things that work in Legion's favor in terms of logistics. Most of these are from Josh Sawyer's posts on various forums and cannot be found in game. Not the most ideal source of canon lore, but still better than nothing. Fallout universe has a lot of magic tech. Power sources that could literally last for centuries? An automatic robot capable of performing freaking brain surgery in non-sterilized environment with almost no medical supplies? A vial of fluid that can bring people back from almost death? Yeah, those things will make supplying a big army not as challenging as real life. Legion does not require as much supply as NCR due to their preference of simple, easy to maintain and often melee weaponry and their distaste of modern medicine. No need for bullets, gun oil, spare parts for firearm repair, drugs and stims, pay for soldiers, etc. Minimal corruption and less outsourced contractors to caravans and gun dealers mean their supply line is also highly efficient. Legion does not require a civil government to extract resources from "independent" settlements under their control. They will ask the settlements to provide food and water only once. If the settlement does not comply, well I think you know what will happen. They also do not control large population centers, so all settlements are basically factories of food and water. Legion is known for asking entire settlements to relocate. Therefore, they can literally take means of production with them and minimize the length of their supply chain. They also launch raids into NCR territory, and it won't surprise me that apart from as fear tactics, these raids also "generate" a portion of Legion's supply. Nevertheless, Legion will have supply problems if they take control of large population centers such as Vegas. You can convince the Legate not to take Vegas by convincing him that Legion supply chain cannot maintain a large population center.

      @justanotheraccounthere2014@justanotheraccounthere20149 күн бұрын
    • @@justanotheraccounthere2014 yes, fallout has a lot of magic tech. But we have no reasons to believe Legion uses most of them. Medical tech in particular is highly indicative because the Legion has no means of fixing the only autodoc they are shown to have, nor ideed are they capable of bringing a working one. Given that the autodoc is needed to save Caesar himself, it seems like a fair indication that legion doesn't have working autodocs. Similarily, when you enter the Fort, legion guard will take away your prohibited items. That includes your stimpacks. That means that stimpacks are forbidden. We don't have direct evidence for other examples of tech, but overall there is no reason to believe the Legion is using any of that tech on any significant scale. Considering that most legionaries come from tribals conquered by the Legion it makes sense for them to not use such tech. They have no knowledge of it. Caesar himself does, but he does not share it much. For a faction that claims to prefer melee weapons their assassins are sure as shit packing some serious heat. I joke, but the point is still relevant. Most of Legionaries do not use only machetes, they use guns including high end guns or technilogically sophisticated melee weapons, like thermal lances or rippers or chainsaws. Those also require maintenance and fuel and spare parts etc. Furthermore, legion is using at least somewhat standartized armor, precious metal coinage and we do see a field smithy (or at least a blacksmith) in the camp. All of those would require logistcal support. Fuel for cooking and for the smithy is actually another bulk consumable that the legion would catgorically need, because the real life armies with even lower tech still needed it, and they can't just get it locally, not a whole lot of trees in that part of the region. The problem I have is not with the idea of legion's settlements being unwilling to give what they have. It is with the idea that those settlements actually do have enough to give and also with the idea that what they give can actually be efficiently collected and transported to the frontlines without food going bad or being eaten by the guys doing the transporting and their pack animals. Secondly, assuming that under all settlements are basically factories of food and water, you mean they are agricultural communities then that is probably true. The problem is, from what little evidence we have, both populational density and agricultural productivity of Legoin land should be pretty low. Why? Well, from dialog with both Raul and Caesar himself. Raul tells us that Arizona was mostly small towns, tribals and raider gangs with constant small scale fighting going on. Such an environment is rather counter-productive to significant population growth. Rise of the Legion did fix that patricular issue, but the way Caesar did it was to either destroy or integrate into the Legion the tribals and raiders and subjigate or, in some cases, destroy the towns. Considering that legionaries do not meaningfully contribute to the economy, it means that rise of legion had effectively wiped somewhere around 50% of already low population (technically quite a few of those people eneded up in the legion rather then dead, but again,as far as the economy is concerned there is little difference). But there is more to the problem. Modern, in this case meaning post agrarian revolution, agriculture is significantly more productive then it was before said revolution. But in order to achieve that, modern agricuture requires a lot more then just the farmers. It requires machinery, artificial fertilizers and many other things which can be only provided by the rest of the industrialized economy. Well, in Fallout verse that infrastructure got nuked and what survived the nukes is, at least in legion territory, very likely to have degraded even further due to lack of maintenance, collateral damage from constant fighting and locals cannibalizing what they can to keep their communities intact. And considering that Legion has little to none technical experitize or desire to rebuild the lands of their subjects, we can fairly safely assume, that majority, if not entirety, of agriculture in Legion territory is done in pre agricultural revolution way. And what little benefits they may have from things that did survive despite everything, is very lIkely to be countered by the residual effects of the Great war. Now that is a problem. A big one. Traditional agriculture is inefficient and has relatively low yealds, meaning that the farmers do not have much food to give in the first place and even less they would be willing to give away. Legion can force the issue, of course, but the thing is, even if they take everything, it may not be enoguh, and if they only take what the farmers can give away safely it would definitely be not enough. There is a reason why before agrarian revolution peasants made up around 90% of the population: that was how many people were needed just to feed the population. Firstly, I have not heard anything about Legion straight up relocating settlements. Secondly, even if they do, the efficiency is still a problem. There is only so much food that can be produced in the area in close viscinity to the frontline even under the best circumstances and having farmers just moved from the land they know well and have pre-established infrastructure, however meager it is, to the land they know little about and have to strart cultivating from scratch is pretty far from the best circumstances. As for the raid in the NCR, well, firstly, NCR in the region has serious supply issues as well, so they don't exactly have that much to give. But bigger problem is that raids by their very nature require troops to move fast and relatively stealthily. Which is not something that can be do if they are loaded with looted supplies. But even they do load themselves up, between their other gear, like armor and weapons and food they will consume just to feed themselves would mean that such raids would be a deop in the bucket even under the best possible condtions.

The mojave doesn't have a lot of the new vegas factions but most of them have cores. Utah is mostly canon due to honest hearts,but the extremist Christians north of new canaan probably aren't. In new vegas the montana bos chapter is mentioned but thats the only canon in the new areas. • If/When you cover Fallout 76 Cartography, I'd recommend collaborating with or watching the KZheadr Irresolute Cartographer who has thoroughly gone through 74 locations Pre-Wastelanders Update in his "Fallout 76 Surveyal" series. It would be a huge mistake in my opinion to ignore the Pre-Wastelanders factions, territories, and locations. To see the change from 2102 and 2103 would be fantastic. Great videos as always, RadKing.

  • I'd love for a version of the Cartography that covers the Mojave if the Courier goes independent-My personal idea is that the Mojave itself would become a loosely associated federation of the various communities, with New Vegas as the "capital". But that's Best Case, Courier Helped Everyone And Upgraded The Securitrons type stuff. A fun video could be "What if the Courier did the MOST for the Mojave" and then "What if they did the most TO the mojave", aka... a. courier helps everyone, makes everything better, kicks out the NCR and legion vs b. the courier ruins everything, slaughters communities, nukes the long 15 and dry wells, destroys hoover dam, etc etc

  • Nope. Mr. House is the best ending. Being a good neighbor means setting boundaries. • Arcade Gannon - Is triggered by Mr. House coming to power, but stays in Freeside a bit, then returns to the Boneyard to live happily as a family doctor. Similar to Doc Mitchell, who saved you at the start of the game. Requires Mr. House winning, and convince him to stay in Freeside during the battle. • Craig Boone - Protect New Vegas as a security and caravan guard. Requires putting Mr. House in charge, and convincing him to make amends for the Bitter Springs massacre carried out by the NCR. • ED-E - Remains a loyal companion to the Courier, the Followers of the Apocalypse learn to use solar power to help people. Improving life in Freeside, and for the Khan Empire. Requires letting the Followers upgrade his weapons. • Lily Bowen - Stays in Jacobstown. Loses the significance of the recording of her grandchildren. Requires telling her to take her medication. • Raul Tejada - Settles down in the outskirts of New Vegas, and takes over New Vegas Steel. Producing and repairing goods for the city. Requires full maintenance, not old vaquero. • Rex - Settles down in Freeside, and hooks up with Roxie from Old World Blues. They create cyber puppies. Roxie must be created, and Rex on standby as a companion. Which brain he receives is irrelevant, though I always pick Rey's or Lupa's. Protectors of the new children as well. • Rose of Sharon Cassidy - Heart skips a beat at the splendor of Mr. House's New Vegas. Requires Mr. House ending. • Veronice Santangelo - Stays in New Vegas with the Followers, pays her respects at Hidden Valley Bunker. Convince her to join the Followers, destroy the Brotherhood of Steel bunker. • Courier - Good Karma Mr. House. • Black Mountain: Tabitha is reunited with Rhonda, their exploits become a children's book. Published by Mr. House's new publishing company, to instill trust toward robots in children. Black Mountain itself is repurposed as a signal booster for securitrons, listening outpost, and radar station for tracking aircraft such as vertibirds, bombers or the development of jet fighters by a faction. • Boomers - Repair their bomber, and put Mr. House in charge to get them to mingle with the rest of the world. • Brotherhood of Steel - Destroyed. Good riddance, Elijah locked in the damn Madre vault. With the Boomers bombing the surface structures into oblivion from high altitude. • Fiends - Kill all the leaders to spare any securitrons having to do it later. Use their vault to research House's vision of advanced medicines, and support Raul's steelworks, the secondary Neon Sign factory, and bottling plant for beer production. • Followers of the Apocalypse - No Mr. House ending available other than mention of them still being present in Freeside and the Mojave in other endings. • Goodsprings - Victor protects the town out of appreciation to saving Mr. House's lieutenant. • Great Khans - Create a mighty empire with the help of the Followers of the Apocalypse. Convince them to break alliances with the Legion, leave Papa Khan in charge. Convince Papa to claim a new legacy. They act as a buffer zone to threats against New Vegas from another front, and can supply medicine to New Vegas by teaching Jack, and Diane. • Jacobstown - Prospers. Complete quest, pass speech check, and science check or ignore it entirely. First option is positive, second results in positive with trade with New Vegas, etc. • The Kings - Mr. House accepts them. Incite full scale war between them and the NCR, side with Mr. House. Train them as well as Misfit Company, via their idolation of Elvis (old reels of his military movie) and play to their delusions. • NCR/Misfit Company - They serve admirably and earn promotions. Train them properly, side with anyone except the Legion. • Novac - Survives thanks to the Bright Followers. Repair rockets, improve guidance, convince the scientist to stay in Novac, side with anyone but the Legion. Use telemetry, and data on rockets to jumpstart Mr. House's space program, and if necesarry later seize Bright Space holdings and resources. • Powder Gangers/NCRCF - Abandoned. Kill Eddie, side with Mr. House. Convert into a trade route station/fort. • Powder Gangers/Vault 19 - Side with Great Khans. • Primm - Securitrons protect the town, and the citizens pay taxes to New Vegas. Convince the NCR to protect the town, then side with Mr. House. Casino helps keep it afloat, but minus that Goodsprings and NCRCF caravan company become more probable stops. • NCR Rangers - Hanlon fights the imperialism of the NCR at home as a senator, once the dam is lost to Mr. House. Don't expose him, side with Mr. House. Thus keeping the NCR as another buffer against threats to New Vegas, and resource supplier. Crimson Caravan exposed, plus Van Graffs all killed opening the way for Mr. House's, Jacobstown, NCRCF and Boone's caravans to flourish. • Remnants - Reunite them, and let their legend grow. Side with Mr. House. Use it as a story of grand technological advancement as part of House's propaganda machine, and the basis of a true Technocracy. Added: Helios-1, equal power distribution everywhere. Securitron protected, with turrets and full maintenance staff to get it fully operational and restore the power grid. Hoover and Helios bring full power to the area, allowing more automated defenses at powered caravan checkpoints. White Gloves, Gamorrah, Tops, Vault 21 all positively handled. No cannibalism, Cachino, Benny killed in the Arena and Swank in charge, turn in Vault Suits and produce them as well using gecko-backed leather for aesthetically and practically pleasing vault souvenirs. NCR Farms/Vault 34/Westside, save the farms and doom the family. Have Westside take over helping the farms as they share water. Salient Green production. Vault 22, do not give the data to the NCR or Mr. House. Return it to Big Mtn., and personally renew research with strick safety protocols. Release it slowly to Westside, and Jacobstown to compliment their restored Bighorner ranches outside of New Vegas at Brooks Tumbleweed Ranch, and Horowitz Farmstead. Manure and research are used to create better soil. Camp Mccarran/Rail, taken over by securitrons and engineers. Rail extended to bottling camp, 2nd neon sign factory, but most importantly New Vegas Steel under Raul's direction. Gun Runners, have fresh steel to produce guns under contract for Mr. House and trusted neighbors like Jacobstown, Goodsprings/Sunny's Militia (It's Always Sunny in the Militia, ba dum tiss). This in combination with mass produced Divide weapons and armor, including power armors with shoulder mounted machine guns boasting greater power and accuracy. Sloan, base camp for restoring the rail and roadways along trade routes or to deliver passengers to New Vegas, and its surrounding areas. Big Mtn., kept as a contingency to overthrow House if necesarry. Lonesome Road, nuke Legion town and poison Cottonwood cove to create area denial zones. Ulysses alive, keeping the marked men and tunnelers contained. Joshua over Daniel, another ally buffer zone and supplier of medicinal herbs true to Arcade's vision of tribalism and high tech solutions combining. Happy Trails, see shattering the CC and Van Graff monopolies. Joshua in charge for shorter routes. Stellaris continuation: Housians, leader named Mr. House. Tombworld start, Earth. Technocracy, Fanatic Materialist and Egalatarian. kzhead.info/sun/qL6wqsZ5cGOPoac/bejne.html

  • I just realized Chief Hanlon is naive and I had misjudged General Oliver. Hanlon complains that his plan was to station the Rangers on the ridge above the dam so their sharpshooters could take out the Legion as they attack, which was the same place they were stationed in the First Battle of Hoover Dam. He said Oliver overrode his decision and ordered they be placed on the dam itself, which Hanlon claimed was because Oliver was jealous the Rangers got the credit for the victory at the First Battle. BUT, @1:21:09 it's noted that the Legion will lay down constant artillery fire on that ridge, presumably expecting the Rangers to be there again. If Hanlon had had his way, his Rangers would have been slaughtered before they could have fired a single shot. So, it could very well be that Oliver's decision was based on experience, and he knew you should never place your troops in the same spot twice, whereas Hanlon naively thought if it worked once it will work again. Hanlon, being a Ranger, has little experience in full scale warfare and is thinking like someone fighting raider gangs rather than a professional army. It didn't occur to him that his opponent will analyze the First Battle and be ready to counter any tactics the NCR used in it. Like so many inexperienced soldiers, he failed to recognize his commanding officer's decisions weren't about arrogance or pettiness, but about decades of training and experience. Hanlon knows how to win a battle, Oliver knows how to win a war.
