So I grabbed her up, brought her in the house and decided I was going to get the cat good and dry. So I take her to the bathroom and pull out my hairdryer. I had no idea the hairdryer would freak the cat out. I'm holding the cat, turn on the hairdryer and she FREAKED OUT at the sound of the dryer. She clawed me so badly. Deep claws. I learned my lesson that day. lol

For me that means I brush and pet my cats according to their reactions and also according to what might make me feel good if I were receiving the brushing.

She wouldn’t let anyone near her, but I eventually managed to get her to warm up to me by being patient with her and before I knew it she was cuddling up to me and being a little darling. She even deemed my bed her safe space when she finally gave birth and kept being me her kittens. My cat was very jealous and not happy with me for that. Once her kittens were old enough we took her and kittens to a shelter so they could be adopted out and they were. She went from super violent to such a sweet cat, I hope her new home is treating her well.

When my 3 cats started out they would fight but no matter how hostile the day was they would always cuddle up and night so they felt the love as they sleep.. It always warmed my heart.. When you bring the snacks don't take them to her.. Put them by the cat and walk away.. Or even put them down as the cat looks at you far enough to not get attacked but close enough for the cat to be curious.. Its worked for me with almost every wild cat I have crossed and rescued..

    • First thing to do to get along with cats is to stop thinking they are hostile. In my experience this applies to most animals, how you treat them is how they will treat you, animals are sensitive to human emotions, so if the animals thinks you are cautious of him/her, then the animals will be to you too making you both on edge for no reason. I agree to the idea of giving treats, making a new friend is way easier when you give them free food.

  • I adopted a cat that was "rehomed" several times. People didnt like him, his behavior, the fact he was too energetic and didnt like cuddling. Being a cat person my whole life I took him in not knowing what to expect. He would wait for the post office to arrive and ravage all the correspondence, he would climb curtains...I played with him so much till he couldnt do anything anymore....he waked me up in the morning to play, and gradually we became best friends. Sheldon is on my lap now sleeping...the craziest, loudest cat I know and the most friendly! He loves visits and I started to rescue kittens and he would always be nice to them, play together and sleep together. Sometimes the wild cat is just misunderstood hahaha

I literally hate “rehoming.” Unless circumstances are so dire that you gotta choose between food for you and your human family or food for your fur babies, you shouldn’t be rehoming. Adopting a pet is a commitment. Animals give you everything of themselves and they deserve to be loved in return.

    • @@rgeorge1536 Thank you for caring for feral cats. I took in two feral kittens, brothers, who just appeared in my yard in 2015. The smaller kitten (named Lucky Carl) was a challenge at first, but became a happy house kitten in record time. The bigger brother (named Stars) made slower progress. He would only calm down and sleep if he was in a crate outside in the yard. Eventually we just accepted he would be an in/out cat. He proudly brought me mice and birds every once in a while. He always showed up for his meals and he did spend time inside, bonding with Lucky. He just would not sleep in the house! Today, Lucky Carl is a very neat and tidy little man who keeps his black fur very clean and shiny. He also does his own nails. Very distinguished boy. Lol, who will also turn gangsta in 1.2 seconds if he smells a rotisserie chicken. He's 6 now, and very happy. Very loved. Stars ("Starzie" to me) went over the rainbow bridge in 2017. He was struck by a car. I don't regret allowing him to spend time outside. Of course I wish it were a different story, but Stars was an outside cat. Like in his soul. I miss him still. He was only here a little while, but he showed me how you let someone you love be who they are. Even if you don't really like their choices. He would never have been a happy housecat. He left too soon, but from the minute I found him, he lived 100% of the rest of his life exactly how he had to live it to feel happy. Free. Self sufficient. And always, always he knew he was loved.

The kittens are my latest but I've had many strays before. Only one loved being inside. The rest came and went. And it was very sad when they took off to mate and didn't come back. But that is their nature. We have street dogs outside who killed two . We were not able to do anything. I enjoyed reading about Lucky Carl and Stars. I'm sure they had/have a very happy life and are waiting for you at the rainbow bridge.

I've worked around ferals too, and usually you can't socialize them once they're past the kitten stage. but depending on that specific cat's background, maybe they were once owned before so there is some hope for them. If they've spent their whole life on the streets though, they most likely won't ever warm up to humans. I fed a colony for 5 years or so, and still some of them even though they'd meow loudly when I came up w/the food, they'd run across the street when I got close to them or their food dishes. But a couple did come up and nuzzle against me too, but I think those ones were owned before.
