In a slight change of gear for the Therapy Crouch team, Abbey and Peter sit down with Natali Kelly and Dr Jeffrey Braithwaite to discuss endometriosis - a condition which affects 1 in 10 women - during national Endometriosis awareness month.
Discover more about the symptoms and treatments of the disease and how we can all do more to raise awareness.
In Agony Ab, we learn about the perils of watching a blue movie with your phone connected to the family bluetooth speaker, and why you should always leave the lights on when going for a midnight pee at your new in-laws house.
As always, expect plenty of laughs and some outrageous one liners whilst also learning about something you may have been unfamiliar with beforehand.

  • I went to see Dr Jeffrey Braithwaite after watching this podcast! I was just about to turn 27 when I first saw Jeffrey, I had a laparoscopy with the NHS 5 months before seeing him, but I was told I likely didn’t have endometriosis and was discharged. My pain was constant and worsening, it was massively effecting my quality of life and my mental health. I was completely lost and was constantly being ignored by the NHS. I had never thought about going private but Jeffrey has completely changed my life! I went on to needing open surgery to treat fibroids and endometriosis which I had done with Jeffrey. He and his amazing team are incredible and still looking after me since my surgery at the start of December 2023. I cannot thank him enough and highly recommend him!!

  • Wow, you guys have completely outdone yourself with this podcast. I didn't think I could love you more! I'm a young female doctor, so naturally a lot of women choose to book with me to discuss women's health issues. One thing that absolutely pains me is that the strings of the NHS mean you can't refer someone until they have met a certain criteria. For example, the referral criteria for infertility is failure to get pregnant for a whole 6 months- 1 year! In other situations, you will arrange ultrasound scans, swabs etc which can come back normal with endometriosis, and the woman is then forgotten about. It makes absolute sense to do scans first, but they are sometimes waiting months for this on the NHS, and in that time they aren't able to have sex, taking time off work for period pain, not able to get pregnant etc. I just hope at some point the NHS guidelines for endometriosis/infertility change, so that it isn't such an obstacle course for women to try and get referred to a consultant. A lot end up forking out privately when they shouldn't have to- a lot of the success stories you hear will be when women have gone straight to a private consultant. Thank you so much for this pod ❤ and that gynaecologist seems like an absolute legend too

  • Omg that made me cry, what a lovely doctor, and how generous. Amazing. Wish more people were as kind as that 🙏 he's gonna help so many women. I remember my aunt having it when I was a child, no one had even heard of it 30+yrs ago. This is great awareness, well done. 👏 👍

  • Crouchy with muff in hand and teeth and Abbey slapping a manager's arse 😭On a serious note, maybe it's just my male ignorance, but I didn't realise the extent to how common endometriosis is and its high prevalence in women with infertility. As Natali said, despite its high prevalence and cost, endometriosis is underfunded and underresearched so, if you are able to, it's important to go to your doctor and get checked routinely/regularly because it's easy for things to be missed and to let things go undiagnosed, especially if you have literally zero symptoms. Sending all my love to the woman who wrote in and shared her heartbreaking story. Abbey, sharing your story and dedicating the first half of your podcast to endometriosis awareness month is amazing - well done!

  • Fantastic pod cast. Thank you so much for this. Women don't have enough support with conditions they may have. We should have more screenings for conditions for this. We know our bodies amd if something is not right we should be able to express this and be taken serious and be checked out

  • Hi, I’m in my 5 operation after 30 yrs of endometriosis - had total hysterectomy 7yrs ago with ovaries taken which put me straight into menopause without medication because of endometriosis and now next week going in for grade 4 bowel rectovaginal endometriosis with 5cm cyst. I have to have bowel resection and bladder surgery which in my 50s - now 51 and still got the re growth of endometriosis. I have to say I deeply hate endometriosis. Sending love ❤wendy 💕
