I once was unsure if Edward Snowden -- who leaked documents showing that the NSA spied on Americans -- was a hero, or a traitor who made us all less safe.
Now I've done my research, and I think he's a hero. What do you think? Our full interview, above, will help you decide.
I served in the US Army for 24 years. We were all taught that "I was following orders," was not a defense of wrong doing. We were obligated to refuse to follow illegal orders. Snowden saw what happened to others who tried to report illegal activities. Snowden did the right thing. Mr President, please pardon Snowden.
24 years is quite a hitch! Thank you.
Santa is a bad ass all year round.
Thank-you for your service.
Exactly! Briefings all the time reminding us we could not monitor US citizens. “Stay in your lane, Bro” is usually derogatory but it’s extremely important for the government. Because the government has so much power it MUST be constrained.
I did 4 in the marines and 19 in the Army. I know what you are saying but at the same time he took an oath and I can say that my team have done things that may be considered illegal by an average citizen but I took an oath and my word in my bond. If you get and unlawful order you report it via chain of command. You dont release classified info to the public.
When a whistleblower is treated as a criminal we know we are run by criminals
Unless its whistle blower against Trump, and those claims were false. The swamp runs deep.
I don't disagree, however he's not just a whistleblower - he gave away national security secrets. As a security analyst myself - he could have culled the information he released a helluva lot better than he did. No problem - give away program names, general procedures, etc. - basically proof of what is happening. There was no reason to indicate the exact methodologies to our enemies. That's the problem he has. A Pardon won't even help him in some regards unfortunately. The President can pardon him of Federal offenses - he cannot protect him from civil offenses nor military tribunals.
@@MandrakeDCR hmmmm I guess you need to understand all the in's and outs of technology. I didn't understand the national security part. I do understand I'm tracked ....and listened to, and watched by my little cell phone. Always wondered if the phone in the microwave worked lol.
@@MandrakeDCR he wasn’t in the Military at that time! And if he hadn’t divulged what he did we might not have understood the depth of what a corrupt government we have. What was his civil offense? Even President Trump thought he could “drain the swamp” but a swamp has no beginning and it has not end it just goes on and on. Their are many who are nice and have moral fortitude, not many who have integrity that can’t be bought at some point in time. Not many men will sacrifice their own lives for the good of their countries. So their countries will know how much the Government lies. Lying to Congress is a criminal offense and yet those who we know are lying to Congress have to pay no consequences for their deeds or their lies but we do.😳 I can’t stand to hear the Elites say “NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW”....that is a huge joke. THEY are all above the law and it sickens Americans like me who know what a farce that statement is every time we hear it.🙄
@@Robint4460 it works. I only do it once a year tho

Unfortunately not happening :(
There would be no President Trump and Deep State exposure if an Edward Snowden didn't do what he did.
@Edgf Wfe their not holding him. Its the only country that wont get strong armed by the U.S. to hand him over
@Edgf Wfe well enemy is subjective. Are the people that punish whistle blowers enemy's to the people? Not saying one is over the other just sayin things are alot different today had he not done this. Definitely woke everyone up. Policies change. Maybe what I'm saying is Russia is a enemy you can see. I'm more concerned with the enemy that you cant see.
Snowden isn't a traitor; the government has become one.
Well said!
State TV (Fox News at the moment until it changes) go out of their way to constantly get it into trumps heads to not pardon him. Every guest that talks about him calls him a traitor. Usually that speaker is connected To the govt. nobody outside the government would call him a traitor. That’s how we know we can’t trust the govt . The whole country agrees with Snowden and what he did was the right thing. How is it that it’s the govt vs civilians? They are supposed to represent us. And they aren’t. What happened was so insanely unconstitutional, that I find it hard to believe that calling him a traitor is enough to undermine his efforts to expose what happened.
And the earth is flat
If you have an issue do something more than talking about it anonymously or move to another country. You are free to do either.
AGREED.
So many people choose "to see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil" because of fear.

Snowden was a whistleblower for ethical, justifiable reasons. He took the chance that, through his actions, he might suffer gravely, and yet he still acted. This is a true heroism.
And the major media outlets could report on this more. Both major political parties are fine with him not receiving a pardon. This is a mess. Edward Snowden did the right thing.

I like the weather there.
I was in the military when he exposed the NSA and I just couldn't believe what he did and I hated him for it. I felt betrayed by him, like he somehow put my life in danger. That's kind of the message that was put out to us. After getting out and realizing more and more of the government's lies, I can appreciate what he did. I think he should be pardoned because he stood up to a system that was wrong and that shouldn't make him a criminal.
I respect your ability to adjust your beliefs, sir
@@virus2003 Thank you
I was caught in the same trap by the fake news. After seeing how they treated President Trump a light came on in my mind, maybe Snowden was a patriotic after all. I think the president should pardon him. But i'm afraid if he comes back to the country the deep state will kill him.
That's a testament to the naivete of most Americans, especially boy and girl soldiers
@@mark-wn5ek I completely disagree. Conviction to one's beliefs is universal to man. The ability to accommodate new truths is unique to introspective people with some intelligence. One's nationality has little impact beyond propaganda absorbed as a youth which ALL cultures are "guilty" of.
A pardon implies guilt. Any charges against Snowden should be dropped.
Pardon is better as it protects him from fascist Progressive scumbags in power, at least until America becomes a complete banana republic dictatorship.
A pardon is the only way, because new administrations could bring new charges.
Well, tech iCarly he is guilty if breaking a "law". An unconstitutional law but most laws are unconstitutional. If he is going to wait on the feds to drop the charges it will never happen. They want to bury people like him. Look what they did to Shaffer cox. 28 years in prison for doing nothing more than telling the truth. There are hundreds of these people in federal prisons today. Most in supermax prisons with no contact to the outside world. Pardoning him is it. That's the onky way he will ever be able to come home. But,it won't happen. He threw the DNC under the bus. The Clinton's, obamas. And because Trump is a socialist Democrat, he won't pardon Snowden. It just isn't going to happen. If it was going to it would have already happened.
In a crooked country, a pardon may be all one can hope for.

This dude is the man: a true American hero.
In a world full of spineless cowards, Snowden is a breath of fresh air.
This man put his civic duty over his duty to the government. We should all be so noble.
THIS MAN IS A HERO FOR EXPOSING THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTIONS OF HIS GOVERNMENT, RISKING HIS PRIVACY, HIS FREEDOMS AND POSSIBLY HIS LIFE IN DOING SO. WITH WHAT HE NOW KNOWS MUCH OF THE RESULT OF HIS ACTIONS, WOULD HE DO IT AGAIN? "MUCH LOVE, RESPECT AND GOD BLESS. THE DEMON WE FACE IS NOT IMMORTAL."
THIS MAN
Or all so criminal. Do you want to break the law? Why not?
The government is supposed to serve us ...
This man Edward Snowden, leaked more classified information to foreign nations than any spy in human history. Which is why he is housed by Putin. Only morons think what he did was a hero. And the fact that the CIA has been monitoring americans was literally written into the Patriot Act. Only the fools who don't pay attention didn't see what was happening.
9:55 "...'office of information sharing' and it turned out I would be better at this job than anyone expected" -- what a sense of humour! ❤
He's brilliant 😂🙌🏽
Snowden is a GD HERO and a true PATRIOT who sacrificed everything but life so far to remove the propagandists veil of lies and show the horrible truth to US citizens. He deserves a damn medal.
HR does not exist to protect employees, but exists to protect the company.
Most employees would never say a word about criminal activity at any of these alphabet agencies. With the fear of losing their jobs or pensions it's easy to keep employees mouths shut. Snowden is a rare individual.
Or even worse being Clintoncided or Obamacided = suicide by 6 shots to the back of the head, a mugging gone wrong where nothing is stolen, or a hit and run by a driver never to be found.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this wasn't just a conspiracy against the American people. In fact this was a conspiracy against all people. Remember they hacked Angela Merkle's phone. Yep, I completely get that, she's obviously supporting terrorism. Without trying to be a smartarse, the whole pretext of mass surveillance is "We need to monitor everyone so we can can ascertain who is a threat" Then why are you spying on the leaders of an allied country? America is so paranoid since 9/11, that's gotta change. Cause to be honest if you don't then the people who crashed those planes on 9/11 have won. You think their plan was to crash four planes and kill 3000 people ? No, their plan was not to attack some buildings, ultimately their plan was to attack democracy and freedom. Why did he stay with vagaries? We want specifics!
Thank you very much Mr Snowden you did the best job for humankind.
I was fooled by the Uniparty. This guy was done dirty. The crooks are rewarded but people that expose the crooks are punished. It’s why so many people join the Go Long to Get Along game. They aren’t all tyrants. Some are just weak.
The lack of interruptions as well as the well asked questions is extremely refreshing. Thank you for this wonderful interview
Exactly! Haha good point
You are a hero, for doing the right thing!!
yeah, very good interview
Wake up wigouts. It was NO surprise that the US (DEEP STATE) GOV was spying on their citizens. Its information warfare. You dont need a 'well spoken' nerd to tell you this fact. Snowden is a bad actor. Read the drops. Its obvious.
Heelys to escape my feelys absolutely agreed. snowden is just one of the latest and most publicized
Fabulous interview. He is articulate, brilliant AND ETHICAL. DESERVES A PARDON!
Simply brilliant.
And brave.
he has a 145 iq
It's probably best that he wasn't pardoned. Chances are, there's gonna be a few unhappy people with deep pockets waiting for him back home
@Ernie H who would benefit
NSA sounds like a type of description that George Orwell wrote about and tried to warn about in the book 1984 written by George Orwell . He wrote that in 1933 got it published in 1934 ?!.
We are not paying you , A huge news, media scoring, an amazing interview, and they’re not paying him knowing How much he is suffering in another country? That’s pretty awesome John Stossel you just showed the world what an opportunist you are. This man is paying with his life to even do this interview. The least you could do is compensate him something.
Clearly, Mr. Edward Snowden is a true hero. It is despicable that he is still in exile after many years like a criminal. I think something is very wrong with America.
Shakespearean tragedy.
How true .
Understatement of the century. Anyone here can tell you that we're in a horrible situation right now. Our individual freedoms are being tested to the limit while the state & federal governments are having the time of their lives. The pandemic has been the perfect cover for disingenuous activities.
There's a lot more than one something and it's getting worse not bettet
@J Venner leave Israel out of it. America bears the responsibility for what America does.
Look how uncomfortable Clapper is, rubbing his forehead. First "No" then qualified "not wittingly."
would love to play poker with Clapper. lairs deserve to be fleeced.
A lie on both counts.
Is an honest embarrassment to a head of security as him.
Lie to congress and get high-level jobs on CNN and Amazon...well done!
Clapper and Brennan are two of the biggest rats of DC. They exude pure evil.
THANK YOU, EDWARD! THANK YOU FOR CARING ABOUT THE “REST OF US.”❤😊
This interview is stunning all the things he is saying and three years later !
Hes going through all this BS because he was looking out for every American citizen.... He needs to be pardoned
So does assange.. Snowden came out rejecting a pardon and said he prefers assange gets it. Snowden is one good dude
He needs a punch in the face
He doesn't need a pardon. He needs a fair trial. Anything less than that would not satisfy his needs or our societies. Maybe some day this country will be a place where he can get one.
@fatguy9; and many of those same Americans can't even understand the implications of it all!
Mr. Stossel, you should post more long-form interviews like this.
Fuzzy...watch better sources. 😘
Yes.
@@nathanlang2169 its a unedited interview not CNN, it will be ok.
@@nathanlang2169 Please post links to these better sources.
He's learning !
Great interview, Snowden should be granted immunity to be a free man, he deserves to be recognized by Americans for being a patriot and looking after people's interests. Time is paying him back, everyone knows google, apple, facebook, wassup, Instagram, youtube, TikTok - Chinese, and amazon are listening to all Americans through our devices, phones mainly. He told us years ago, and look what is happening now.
Thank you for coming forth.
HERO. Absolute, genuine, courageous, selfless HERO. If we all had even a fraction of the integrity and moral compass of Edward Snowden the world would be a far better place.
Well said.
Yes he deserves to be Pardon and also Julian Assange.. they both released the truth for the people
Snowdon speaking for the little guy, while Stossel argues vehemently to crush the little guy. Yet Stossel doesn't appear to understand how utterly evil he's become. Privileged. Entitled. Elite. Everything Stossel once fought for, he now argues against.
Great interview, thanks 😊
This man is a hero. He took the right stand, despite the cost. He deserves respect, and of course a full pardon.
Yes agreed

😅
He sacrificed so much for our continued freedom. The government needs to be held accountable for actions that violate the US Constitution.
well, thankfully he was smart enough to get away, and thus didn't sacrifice much, he lives a comfortable life in Russia, now imagine what would have happened to him if he were in Europe or any western country - instant deportation to USA, and at best life in prison.
@@Grafomanokrasto I would agree with you if he was an orphan.
The government writes the rules. That entity never abides by them!
Snowden is a hero. He deserves full pardon and a proper apology from this corrupt government we have.
What a great interview. Wish I would have watched it sooner. Our government is out of control and needs to be checked. We need to follow the constitution.
