Love these Terra guides! They give me confidence for when I finally put mine together. I'm hoping to go the classic 7800x3D / IS-55 route, but with a slightly beefier 7900 GRE. I know the larger card will negatively impact the thermals, but hopefully not to a super detrimental degree. Appreciate all the work you do!
Sure thing! One thing I noticed (and I have experimented with the IS-55 in this case), the position is not great on many modern ITX boards including the MSI B650, it can work in one position but sits pretty low and the fan touches the bottom panel. Just something to watch out for!
@@MachinesMore That's what I've learned from the r/SFF community, and a few pcpartpicker builds. I'll definitely experiment with positionality, and if it means flipping the MOBO upside-down to make it work then so be it haha
This MB is fantastic value. I upgraded the flakey MediaTek WIFI card for an Intel AX210 and it doubled my speeds and connection is rock solid. Highly Reccomend you do this if you own this MB,
I love your channel and thank you for posting such high quality content frequently. I have a few questions in regards to doing an SFF build in either the Fractal Terra vs CH160 if you wouldn't mind entertaining them. 1. For the Fractal Terra, a 7800x3d and 4080S build, do you HAVE to undervolt the CPU for good temps, or can they run stock if you are only gaming? I continue to feel intimidated about undervolting as I feel like I might mess it up, even though people say it's so easy. However, the case is so beautiful and feels like it is a breeze to build in. 2. If not for the Fractal Terra, would you prefer the CH160 or NR200PV2 for a new build with these specs? I feel myself leaning towards the CH160 because I will be truly using the case as a pick up and go for friends houses and LAN parties, yet the NR200P overall has been used for years and appears to be in good standing, regardless of your thoughts on air vs liquid cooling. Yet, the thermal performance you showed for the CH160 was impressive and it appears it can jut be plug and play! 3. Any alternative air coolers you would use for the CH160 besides the Assassin 4S or an alternative 140mm fan you think is better? Lastly, any fan recommendations for the 120mm fans, I like RGB and was wondering your thoughts vs going with Noctua even though they are tried and true! Thank you for the great content!
Glad you enjoy it! 1) Undervolting is not really necessary with the 7800X3D (5800X3D also) and something like the IS-67-XT in the Terra- it sips power even at load. It doesn’t hurt to tune the PBO setting though, and allow the boost ceiling to go higher. The first step would be to increase the maximum boost clock and the second (though not required) would be to give a slight negative curve optimizer offset. 2) CH160 for the handle, but personally for a 7800X3D build I’d go Terra though. IMO the small size and weight would outweigh any convenience from the handle. One other thing is I’m more hesitant to travel much with a glass panel, just since it is more fragile. It won’t fall out randomly but small impacts could quickly become a huge problem. 3) I’d also look at the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 5, and if you can wait another few years (only slightly kidding) the next gen Noctua D15 will be coming. The current D15S is still great but if the new one is just around the corner then I’d wait. From what I’ve seen the Assassin 4S is good but necessarily the best amongst its peers, but it is just convenient since the form factor lines up well with case dimensions with regard to the spacing to the rear panel, plus you are only paying for the single fan which allows you to supply the rear 120 separately. That being said- all these coolers are complete overkill for a 7800X3D build. You really don’t need much cooler for it!
Excellent build tutorial but just a couple of questions or things that would be really useful: 1) Do you know what other versions of the 4070 Super would fit with the CPU cooler and general set up you have here? I am hoping to do almost this exact build but Founders Edition versions of the RTX cards seem to be nigh on impossible to get in the UK - so if you know which versions are nice and thin or exhaust from the back it would be good to know. 2) I'd love it if you did a video running through your BIOS settings for this build. I hear a lot of talk about PBO and Curve Optimizer but still a bit confused by it so would be good to see how you've tweaked the settings in the BIOS to get the temps you show in the video. Cheers!!
Put spine in position #1, insert fan without the grill and then insert the fan grill by pushing down on the top. This way you don't have to remove the front panel.
i recommend anyone using this MB to remove the NVME fan if you are using the drive for gaming and barely any video editing or similar. The fan whine can be heard when approximately 20cm from the case. It also messes up the airflow of exhausting cpu cooler. sucking towards the motherboard and staying stuck under the PCIE extension cable.
Have you tried adjusting the fan curve? A few things I noticed when reviewing the board- the stock fan curve is indexed to the CPU temp, which is not the most accurate way to dictate the fam behavior, and also you can dial down the curve itself and still get good temps.
Just setup the fan rpm in the BIOS to the minimum! i did that and its golden, i even use Fan Control to disable it until i go gaming!

I replaced mine with an acidalie heat sink it works well for airflow

New socket incoming for intel at least, and 50 series wait seems more ideal for me. Already have a good setup. 12700k, 64gb ddr5, evga ftw3 3080, 850w psu, 13 ql120 fans lol and lian li evo

How many advertising orders did Fractal actually place? I've noticed that almost all PC assembly KZheadrs suddenly released another Terra video.
Ive noticed you primarily base your builds around FE GPU's, subjectively these arent readily available to the masses and most midrange customers use aib GPU's. Would it be possible to implement more aib cards in the future? This doesnt deter me from being an avid machines and more sub but may align better with tentative subs.
the issue is, in north america there are no AIB cards thatre 4070and up that are exactly 2 slots besides FE

Yes, correct.
So, basically to begin with both CPUs are extremely competitive for gaming, and where there is a difference is going to be dependent on games that can utilize the 3d v-cache. At 1440p and higher resolutions, most builds (and certainly this 4070 one) will be limited by the GPU’s capability. It doesn’t help much to get too good of a CPU when your card is the limiting factor, therefore spending that same incremental budget towards a better card (4070 super, or Ti for example in this build) would yield a more meaningful benefit. The difference between 7600X and X3D is almost the difference between vanilla 4070 and 4070ti, and even then the 7600X will not be the limiting factor.
I think I have seen somewhere you shouldnt use pig tail power cable with the gpu adapter.
It really depends on the power level and the gauge of the PSU power cables. For a 4070 which will draw around 200W, you could normally run that off of one dual 8-pin PCIe power cable so it’s fine. For 4070ti and above using separate cables is safer.
