Being a part time driver escort for overload size trucks convoy in Canada , I’m sure happy to live in a country where transport regulations rules are steady applied to protect against idiots .
I also escort a 90 ton load around Ontario. Same equipment I operate and even with the regulations, I still see close call after close call every year. Regular vehicle traffic thinking it can't be crushed and trying to share a lane with the overhang part of equipment that's wider than the lane it's driving in. Cars come inches away every year and the equipment is going to win every time.

There are moron and idiots in every country. The standard of driving in the UK has decrease over the year's. I have been driving 50 years. I my opinion due to poor instruction and reliance on the brakes instead of taking your foot off, engine braking, gear changing and planing ahead for one example.
Always love the overloaded trucks, whose drivers would rather tear out a clutch -- at the very least -- and do unintentional wheelies, because they'd rather not make a second trip.
They make a second trip; but overloaded the same as this trip. Dude they get paid for how much they deliver, period. There's no money driving back and forth (loaded or not).
No safety requirements (or intelligence) in those countries.

Uhhh yeah that was in the UK and that would not work as a defence here. We have something call excessive force which means you cannot defend yourself with more than the required amount of force to stop them hurting you. So you can stab someone once but only once. Not 12 times. Bentley prick could have had him and/or his car sideswiped if he'd broken the glass with the bat though - as you'd be just trying to get away from a madman.
