  • I’m just learning of this and it makes me sad! I remember being excited when gyms were a part of Pokémon go, feeling like I might finally have an authentic Pokémon gym experience in the real world but ended up being disappointed at the implementation. I wanted it to have the feeling of walking into a gym and challenging it. That excitement of walking through the doors staring down all the gym trainers I planned to challenge. The anticipation of watching others challenge the gym and rooting for them to get their badges. People excitedly finding others to battle, trade, and talk Pokémon with as they waited their turn or as they spectated. Friendly rivalries built and tested. But that really wasn’t what happened with go. I hope you do this again because watching this video I had the thought “omg that’s exactly the type of real world Pokémon experience I’ve been craving.”

  • A fun ideal you might consider. Here in Balboa Park, San Diego CA, there are several small houses for most of the countries in the world. They often hold events at this locations and each house has their own items. You could apply this concept to Pokémon. Where people come and go to each house/country battling the houses Pokémon. This would give trainers roughly 20 to 30 House battles leading up to a final elite boss who could be on a center stage for everyone to watch as people make their way through the houses/Countries. This would also would teach people about each country as they make through way through the "world" battling.

    • As someone who grew up in a very small town, I 100% felt this sentiment and understand. However, you do have to think about it from the logistics perspective of the people planning these events. Their event will cost a huge amount regardless of where they host it, and if they put it in a really niche location that is difficult for the majority of people to make it to (though convenient for a small minority).... it just doesn't make much sense on their end. It is definitely the suckiest part of living in a smaller town or in a state that is not near any huge metropolitan cities. However, I will say it does get a **lot** better when you're older, because if going to events like this are a priority to you, you can spend the money to actually travel out to them and it is a lot of fun.

That's why major events only happen in big cities. And of course, big cities can accommodate huge amounts of crowds with Airbnb, hotels, and motels.
