Funny how no one realizes that the show came to him. He was on set of a movie at the time at they brought the characters over to his trailer on set and filmed this during took less than half an hour. He was given the script minutes before...a true pro

The actress that played alice was so brilliant, she was underrated actress, she was so brilliant as Alice and in Notting hill, she was the backbone of this shows, she should have been played more roles, she didn’t have the confidence and didn’t know how pretty she was. And how good she was as an actress.
She was brilliant. So sad she died in her early 50s from a heart attack.
I don't think it was a lack of confidence, she seemed massively loved by all of her colleagues. She had a lot of health issues and I think she decided working wasn't worth it just for a pay check, especially after having children. All the women in The Vicar of Dibley (Liz Smith, Emma Chambers, Dawn French) were/are fantastic actresses, especially in comedy.

Some will disagree but I think it takes great intelligence and special skill and ability to play characters who are Dippy but with an innocently pure sweetness and a not always logical or sensible sense of integrity yet still have them be real and believable and so endearing to viewers... I dont think its something that just always easy to pull off by any type of actor/actress, it takes a rare special kind and Emma Chambers was one of those few with that had the ability to do just that and the world lost a great and sadly not always valued and truly appriciated talent when she left it but she leaves behind a great legacy that can never be tarnished or taken away... It belongs to her always and forever....

I got a kick out of James Fleet (Hugo) discussing the “Sense and Sensibility” film at the beginning. James Fleet, of course, was *in* that movie, as Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet’s somewhat villainous brother, John Dashwood.
Nice catch, I saw that too! My sister and I saw Sense & Sensibility at the movies when it came out, and we’ve watched it again together many times since.
James Fleet comes from my neighbouring town, Bilston in the West Midlands, but you would never guess that when you hear him speak!

I have followed excepts of the court case and at 1 point, the defence council stated that he: “Didn’t give to charity...” I found it interesting to note that his team omitted to list the number of Pro-bono events he’d attended, over the decades.
@@danielw5850 he also pointed out that he makes anonymous donations because he doesn't do it for the recognition and likes to ask the people in charge to make movie premieres and events into charity benefits. The guy that said he doesn't donate was his angry ex manager who stole from him.

I've been somewhat drawn into this court case, as it touches on so many facets of the human condition: childhood, upbringing, values, parenting, interaction between men & women (trans folk - stand down ffs!) and the strange realm of showbiz. This man (my vintage - 1963), is clearly a polymath and has much more to give to our public discourse; I wish him well; his family appear the more closer (perhaps comforted) from this ordeal.

I get the sense that Johnny is one of those guys whom ALL girls, always, have loved. I’d bet girls started swooning for him in 6th grade. He’s got that thing some guys get when they grow up with a bunch of sisters.
I remember Depp on The Fast Show in the 90s too - there was a moment when he and Paul Whitehouse were really good friends and there was an interview where he said he loved British humour and 'got it' whereas a lot of Americans struggle with distasteful humour and sarcasm (hes still right 😂). Obviously, he then appeared in Ricky Gervaise's stuff too. Hes had to explain away 'horrible' texts exchanges between he and English actor Paul Bettany during this trial, the black humour comes over as quite shocking. Less so when you realise the type of sense of humour he has.
Geraldine is kinda all of us right? It’s also wonderful to note that Mr Depps caffeine habit is a steady fixture. I think his court cup is nearly as famous as he is now

I always liked this guest appearance the most in the series, not just because the guest was Johnny Depp, but also because Geraldine never got jilted or had her hopes dashed, as she had gotten in the episodes with other guest stars.
I remember this as a child teenager OMG thank you for taking me back to a time I sat with my now dearly departed dad laughing at this and my dad looking very confused you are really helping me through my chemo treatment 💛

Another chemo person! KZhead has been a revelation and a boon. That three in the morning time when the you tube community wraps it's arms around you. I've been watching the trial and yes, JD comes across as a generous, thoughtful and warm person. What he's endured is horrific. You might find some of the audio books and radio plays good. I watched the old Hadley and Gazette programmes. An eye opener as far far as how our attitude towards women is concerned and now Amber Heard has set us back decades. What a twit. Hope you're near the end of the chemo. I had 24 weeks of it and only four days to the end of the last cycle. Hope it works for you 🥰

Aw, I love this show! I love British humor. Sadly, the woman who played Alice died young, in her early 50s. She was hilarious, a genius comedienne. I miss this show, it's not on PBS anymore.
Depp IMO is one of the all time best actors ever. I have never seen anyone get so into the part they are playing.
