So far it has made me notice power wasteful devices in the house. Those have now all be decommissioned. They were a few cheap LED lights that had draining batteries when they were “off”. Took a look at the circuitry, and it had a simple PCB with a bad wireless implementation that constantly drained power. Chewed through 3 rechargeable AAA batteries in day & I never used the wireless feature. So to the trash. Well, to the soldering iron to see if I can remove the wireless component, but it’s essentially the same thing.

  • Imho and also based on experience, I like equiments with separate power bricks more. Based on my experience with all my electronic equipment, the power supply always breaks first. Having them separate means I can easily replace the power supply. When my tablet monitor broke its power brick, I just rummaged in my drawer full of power bricks from old unused tech to find something with equal or higher amperage, and it's working again. Not so with my 16-channel mixer and 500W subwoofer, which had their PSU built-in. I had to remove all the audio wires, take them to a service centre, and waited a few days just for a power supply replacement. And since the 16-channel mixer is essential to my setup, I had to buy a new one and had the old one as a backup 🤷‍♀ It is so prevalent that I opted to convert some of my equipment with busted PSU with an external power brick.

  • Agreed on the power brick, I'm not mounting my PC monitors flush against a wall, so it won't kill me if they're a bit thicker. About the only plus side is if something power related fails you can likely replace it, even after warranty as long as they actually purchase extra stock for such occasions. Also some times the cable from the brick isn't long enough, so depending on multiple aspects of your desk situation it may dangle or have to sit on your desk. Also from an IT perspective, plenty of spare power cables like your PSU and old(/some new) monitors used laying around.

  • If they made this to at least 165Hz and Displayport 2.0 with glossy finish, I might have been tempted. I have Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 and I would like to see this compared to it side-by-side. This is also an IPS display. Black contrast may suffer.

  • 1:44 Once you fully "buy into" NiMH with a _good_ charger and _good_ batteries (eneloop), you want everything to have swappable batteries rather than internal... jussayin

    @adfaklsdjf@adfaklsdjf Жыл бұрын
    • Or save some money and get Ikea batteries. Which are the same as eneloops for way cheaper

      @AndroidSTheOfficialKnight@AndroidSTheOfficialKnight Жыл бұрын
    • Agreed, I wish every device with a battery was required by law to have them easily swappable by the end user, or at least a basic mechanic in the case of a car, or truck. Sealed non replaceable batteries really are one of the true environmental hazards of our time with how much e-waste they create.

    • This is the way. It beats a hard to service "rechargeable" that start losing charge after a few months of charging to 100%. Never mind if you don't want the device powered at all you can easily remove the battery for long term storage.

  • Honestly I was expecting way less features, or way more money for it. It's 4k 32 inch, which is the absolute best balance imo as far as resolution, ppi and real estate is concerned (I strongly dislike ultrawides), 144hz are brilliant for anything other than uber sweaty competitive FPS, and the screen can display proper HDR. You do also get that fancy stand instead of just a porsche logo, and all that don't cost 2500+ euro that I was expecting. You could get the Odyssey NEO G7 for a bit less, but if you are on the market for a monitor of that calibre, you've already spent 1500 to 2500 euro for a GPU to drive it, it's not that exorbitant. Good job PD

  • you do indeed pronounce the e at the end, of porsche. fun fact.. porsche design also makes other things. soundbars, watches, headphones... and there's apparently also a gaming chair (looks like all the other ones) for over 4000 CAD. lol I recall reading about a porche designed kitchen. that was quite weird. And on their site you can also buy porsche hoods (yes, engine hoods, for your porsche) with various designs. Also i agree. built in power bricks is easily my prefered way of doing it. Though my recent gaming monitor has a tiny tiny power brick.. which is nice. (about the size of a small macbook charger) This monitor design only seems to focus on the stand, though? the monitor itself is pretty standard. a slim bezel and the lip at the bottom. But the stand is unique, i guess? so not much point of buying this, if you're gonna mount it on an arm (which always looks best... - highly recommended!)

  • While I don't have the money to get it, I love that this is not a bunch of cheap plastics and cleaner overall in all ways, You have something that looks professional but can be used for entertainment, and yeah If you have the money why buy the plastic ones when it's in your face all the time. Aesthetics is why you pay more, probably will last longer than the Samsung the way they have been lately, and definitely longer than the Chinese budget brands. It's the Porsche when you could get a Vette that is better in some ways for less, but look closer and you see your value in extra work and I think neither would give someone buyers remorse.

I walked around a while, and being a high schooler, quickly realized the only thing I could justify (and even that's a HUGE stretch) was a 15 Euro pack of Porsche stickers! Kinda hilarious but analogous to what they've done here clearly lmao

  • AAA is better than in-built Lithium batteries. Helps in longevity. You can use rechargeable AAA if you want to. But if they used lithium batteries, they would seal it up and make it un-repairable and even if they gave easy access with screws, the battery would go out of circulation since it would most likely be a lipo pack with some non standard funky design or something. Pencil cells are the best. Use rechargeable if you want, Never have to beg the manufacturer for spares. Overall, win-win.

  • Unpopular opinion: You don't need any response time faster than 4 ms. Not going to notice a different, you want OLED perfect response for its motion reliability (because it's perfect in any colour, so no ghosting or smearing - ever regardless of the scene), but not really that extra clarity. Not that you can pixel peek motion anyway, and competitive player probably need less input lag than better motion clarity

  • I know Porsche is the star of the show here, but AOC really deserves some credit for their monitor game. While they have some crappy stuff like any company, they’ve got a metric shit load of monitor SKU’s ranging from very budget to super high end, and a lot of them are really good and pretty fairly priced. To me it seems like their monitors get overlooked a lot by tech-tube.

  • The 27'' monitor is actually reasonably priced at €500. 170hz IPS 1440p, basically the AOC AGON AG275QX, which retails for about 400. 100 Euros for the Porsche logo isn't quite as insane. Yes it is just a logo but in grand scheme of things not terribly insulting. Actually looks like the bezals on the Porsche one are even thinner.
