  • Brilliant! My daughter's 2012 Corolla is all beat up and we certainly didn't want to pay to have all the clips and fittings replaced. Both sides were hanging off between the headlight and wheel well. I used Permatex Black Plastic Welder. 5min set, 10min cured. The black line between the two panels looks great and intensive wiggling shows everything to be stuck up in there really well! Thanks!

  • This is caused by bumper scrapping and catching on those parking spot curbs. The curbs are too high for today’s cars. I always park a foot short of them now.

    @Herlongian@Herlongian3 жыл бұрын
    • The parking curbs are not the problem, the low orientation of the bumpers on the cars is the issue. This is just another example of how car manufacturers exercise planned obselence of their vehicles.

Figure out where the front of your car is, park there. Or, pull up until your tires run into something and tell you to stop, it's just plastic.

  • TIP: Firstly thanks so much for the clear instructions. I just finished my repair. Try carefully peeling the masking tape away when the glue is 2/3rds dry. I did this on the second side and had perfect results. First side i has the same tearing as in the video and has to use a razor blade to finish the tape removal. Rather than duct tape, i just help the bumper in place with my hands (actually a leaned my whole body into it and used my hands). The bumper was not a nicely refitted as in the video so duct tape would never have worked.

After about 5 mins I started to peel the tape off whilst still holding it with one hand and with my knee. Getting the tape off before it hardens made a massive difference, there was sill a little bit that I had to cut out but I reckon your comment alone saved me about 30 mins. TIP: If you're reading this, wear a glove and push the glue in with your finger, it goes in cleaner and further.

I followed your instructions and both sides of the bumper came out beautiful. I was able to find a clear self mixing epoxy with a detachable long nozzle. It was basically injecting the epoxy. The paint tape and duct tape worked great. I used alcohol on a cotton ball to remove the small amount of duct tape residue. It’s been bugging me all this time. Don’t know why I waited so long. • I found an easier way! If you remove some of the clips holding the plastic liner of the wheel well, so you can get access to the 'inside' of the quarter panel, you can reach in, pull off what's left of the old broken bumper clips, and insert a ZIP TIE there instead. You then thread the length of zip tie to the hole on the bumper and bring it around to the other part of the zip tie where the hole is. You then pull up the excess length of the zip tie, pulling up the bumper, and that's it, fixed.

  • Great video! Question: how much would it cost to repair something minor just like the one you fixed but at a mechanic? Roughly? Thank you! 🙏

  • Thank you for this walk-through that explains it perfectly! My bumper got nailed a couple of years ago in my work parking lot (hit and run, no note) and I can't afford the repair that insurance won't cover. In our hot and humid climate in Texas, tape alone won't hold. I'll be trying this and hoping for peace of mind while driving ☺

  • Thank you for your video. I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu it doesn't have a lot of years left but it is mechanically sound. I will be using this technique on the bumper. But prior to the bumper being tapped the other day I was hearing a sound and it was emanating from the trunk. So my guess is it's the spoilers loose. What can I do? Can I put some kind of sealant around the base of where it attaches to the trunk? I have touched myself and it doesn't have any gaps that I can see. So it has not broken off. Or maybe it has on one side I just can't tell. Anyway I was half thinking of using a glue called Flex glue that they claim can be used on any surface. I was even wondering if it could be used on the bumper. Cosmetically my car has damage so I'm not freaked out about it not looking showroom floor.

  • You can also remove the plastic piece with the broken clips and repair that with jb weld or even better replace it with a piece from the junk yard. Also a Toyota with 175k easily has another 100k miles on it if it has been well maintained.
