Hrm, I feel the exact opposite, whether it's John, Tinman, Kensie/Bayou, I.Horse none of them have "mah secret recipe" and, in general, such sentiments in chainsaw-tuning seem to be fluff (when's the last time a genuine "novel trick" was dropped into the saw-zeitgeist by a saw-tuner? We are the smallest, least developed 2-stroke-niche and collaboration is the only viable path, if everyone was trying to reivnent the wheel w/ porting every platform available then this hobby would have 1/100th the participants it does now!) So cool seeing them collaborate like this, one of my favorite climbers w/ one of my fave builders :D
Haha it's true he could show me every possible step in the world and I wouldn't even consider for a moment to try and compete with it. I don't like wrenching much at all, I'll leave it to the grease monkeys!

It blocks off room in the bar oil chamber so your bar oil and fuel run out at the approximate same time. I believe was their purpose anyway.

Just a little information from an older industrial mechanic snap-on has a set of hydraulic seal spoons that would make your job of installing those grommets a lot easier. I don’t want to step on toes mechanics can be very prideful about accepting any outsider information so if you’re interested I would be happy to get you the information and exact description. BADDDASSSSS!! I saw this saw in a later video and thought you spray painted it but WOW what a process, John is the MAN!
I found a trick with those intake manifold boots all you need is a piece of string that you tie around the end of the boot then just pull through the carb housing the string will come off and the boot will perfectly fit into place.
It's always nice to see a PRO rebuilding a saw!!

that really makes the chips! so fast and smooth! it stinks when they say “new” when they are not! creates so much work for individuals trying to do the job once! great video, amazing powder coating job! just looks like new! great color combination for the saw.

I agree. If you tear down a saw into its major parts - it gets new bearings and seals. I just restored a Stihl 025 and 021. They both got new bearings and seals. It is a cheap and easy repair.

Excellent build. The 200's have been out of production for a decade or so. Most of them are wore slap out. It gets really pricy to rebuild and replace all those parts but, it's a necessity if you want to make them reliable again. The 200 is far and away the best climbing saw ever produced. Your saw is better than new Jake. Congrats to you and John. Nicely done. I definitely like that AV bushing too
Wow, they built an awesome 200T and that bar and chain combo works better I believed possible on that custom saw!! I can't imagine what that saw cost in total to build, but man I wish I could get one too. It's not possible of course on my income, but I loved my stock 200T when I had one and I wish I never had to let it go. Great video. 😎👍🇺🇸
Not going to lie. I was really hoping for a "Before" and "After" comparison. Would love to see how much performance gain you received from the tune up and porting job. Can still tell that thing shreds something fierce. I imagine it's a huge bonus for you knowing you can work on big trees and only need one top handle for a lot longer without having to trade up to a heavier saw. Hope to see that bad boy in action soon.

The Panther guide bars are generally, but no exclusively, built and oriented towards milling. The two cuts that John was asking about, at #53:45, are meant for attaching the guide bar to the Panther mills, especially the Panther Cub which works with smaller guide bars. It serves the purpose of sag (also called bar sag), which is the result of gravity acting on the overhung hardware spanning across the coupling that holds the indicator, because it is a mill guide bar

As someone else mentioned in the comments.. my guess is that plug in the oil tank is for structural support for that large void, to help prevent breakage in the event it gets wacked. Awesome video as always! 👍

Would love to see What you would do with the little 025 Was 15 years in a steel dealership when they came out? I knew that it was awesome. And seems to be still. Porting them is just been my hobby. They are wicked just cleaning them up. And openings them up a little. Good to see a young man. Confirming a lot of what I was taught. In my younger day. Pushing 60 now. My mind and body are in a race to see which one gives up first.

Awsome job guys!! Just a quick suggestion, after cutting like that at the end, let the saw run for 15 - 20 seconds at idle after cutting to help cool it down. What a wicked build. Nicely done. 👍

as I understand it, that little plastic piece in the bar oil chamber of the crank case on 200ts was for crack/depression protection. It's there to help bolster the case to keep it from caving in or cracking if it were to ever get bashed around. Generally speaking it's not needed though. Also think it was really only ever stuck in the earlier 200ts. Super cool video on the limb reaper, maybe I'll build me one on day..

The plastic piece in the oil tank probably was added after the fact because the saw wasn't balanced properly, where the oil side was heavier than the gas side. Stihl probably made their crankcase dies already and didn't want to redo them so they retrofitted it.
That plastic piece in the oil tank is for support. It reinforces the oil tank and helps prevent cracking on impact from common drops and banging around. Cast aluminum cracks really easy. Without that I’m sure it will crack super easy. Good luck.

That was super interesting to watch. Doing the powder coating and dyeing the plastic is on a hole different level. I was hoping that you were doing a giveaway saw video. I would say John is really keeping these saw builds very interesting and entertaining.

In 2003 I purchased a black Silverado SS, the old cliche, black is beautiful when you keep it clean, fast forward 20 years, 20,000 miles on odometer, thus the low mileage, hard to keep beautiful.
someone brought me a Stihl ms 200t to repair one month ago, the first one I worked on .... I was extremely impressed by how good this chainsaw is! you did a very good job! looks great! greetings from Romania!
Tip on using spray paint….. remove anything that can’t handle 450 degrees…. Then heat in oven for 1 hr and use 1200 degree charcoal grill paint while parts are hot. Basically goes on like a powder coat and is very durable
Wow the saw runs and I learned a few things I wasn't expecting on a chainsaw video lol I might try the plastic die for some old 3/4 wheeler, dirtbike fenders and tanks that's faded. Haven't ever seen it done this way looks great. Thanks for all the time and knowledge that went into this.

You only need a little cloud to come out of the powder coat gun haha but whatever works for you haha but you could save a crap ton more powerboat you just want a mist to come out so it's controlled because you can actually get issues with peeling if it's to think

Acetone is in the red can of brake kleen and hence the reason it melts plastic. The acetone you mix in your dye is what essentially opens the “pores” of the plastic to allow the dye to take.

10+ Celsius is when both sthil and Husqvarna recomends Winter mode. But most here dont even use it. It can get down to -20 c too

Rubber grommets or intake boots , motorcycle tech I use a pot of bowling water and heat em up straight off the oven. Or if needed heat em with a propane torch. They get soft as butter. But it’s dangerous with the torch and the hot boiled ones hurt your fingers .

Beautiful job and video of it!!! And lol it was nice to see, for the 1st time ever, someone besides myself epoxy'ing rubber to the bottom (I do it for both balancing the unit when it sits, AND protecting it IE having rubber feeties on each corner of the bottom lets you put it down wayyyy rougher on 'crete! JB Weld works best but even 5min-epoxy will hold the rubber for months if you know how to prep properly, JB feeties have lasted me nearly 2yrs!) Surprised you guys questioned it pulling that bar, my mostly stock 355t wears an 18" at all times, honestly doesn't seem to have any issues whatsoever with it (the pairing just 'works well' it's not fighting to make it happen like if you put a 16" on a 25cc :P ) Love the skidplate have never seen/used one on my climbsaws only groundsaws, gonna go make one for my 2511 after seeing this :D

The difficult grommet problem, put silicone grease tie a string with a slip loop with a long end slip the loop around the centre of grommet then tie off, put the long end through casing with wires put pressure on grommet against casing and pull the string, job done!!

Most video's on KZhead average 10% likes. Pretty silly that more people don't throw a "like" for something good like the material Treeson throws out there. Should be 25% minimum.
Thought painted saws where a little silly, but this looks absolutely worth the effort when it's completely torn down anyway
