    • This is actually a thing. But you really wouldn’t signal anyone on the ground unless it’s more of a desperate measure. It’s more so for locating an LZ.

  • We never used it for signaling, just for marking an LZ for helos. One of our boots freaked out and started walking backwards away from the bird and it followed him until he fell backwards… don’t walk backwards people

    • IR, infrared, can only be seen with night vision. Often used with tripwire devices when trying to set an ambush.

  • I keep chem lights in my backpack when I'm hunting. If I have to track out blood and its getting dark I can mark my blood trail.

  • Excellent idea. Combining motion and light makes that a highly visible signal. Nonetheless, you only had a cord wrapped around your chemlight. Cordage is a collection of chords. For example, old fashioned square rigger ships were replete in cordage.

  • Raised by a drill sergeant i learned hand signals but never how to expose your position in enemy territory. This seems more practical with thermal.

  • When I need to signal someone, I tie my cell phone to a string and swing it around while calling them. This gives me the strobe effect at night, and they're notified with a ringtone too 👍 If I want to be incognito, I text them to put their phone on vibrate before I call.

  • Krill lamp sells IR lights that run on 2 AA batteries and you don’t have to waste chemlights. Nod friendly and they sell them in different visible colors, intensities and configurations. Happy booging.

  • It would be great to walk folks through other chem light marking techniques, etc. like for trap locations, left and right lateral limits, etc… the classic platoon in defense tactics. Really useful for defensive survival in the wild? Perhaps!
