  • As a quadriplegic artist who mainly uses Procreate, I personally cannot physically do a lot of the gesture controls because of how my fingers are. I actually think this is pretty neat and might have to look into getting one! Thank you for sharing information about this little device!

    • I've seen some professional artists using procreate and grab a USB keyboard to use hotkeys off to the side with one hand, rather than trying to use the gestures. I think they're used to constant hot-keys with Photoshop. But they're VERY fast with it. Seems like it really helps their productivity quite a bit, but they also look like they've been doing it for years. Undo and redo are the most obvious ones.

  • So as someone who has really struggled with learning the procreate interface and memorizing all the tips/tricks and such that make it easier to use, this looks supremely helpful and I will definitely look into getting it for myself. My hand dexterity can vary from day to day or even hour to hour due to my health, so to have a physical option I can rely on that reduces strain for both my body and my mind is really encouraging

  • Looks to me like all those "save a few moments" moments adds up to a much increased work speed. When you make art for hours a day it's ALL about work flow efficiency. It's not the kind of time savings you find with Photoshop and keyboard shortcuts, but it looks like it would save a ton of extra gestures, and it's not like your off hand is doing anything else important while drawing.

    • I agree with this statement 100% As someone struggling to embrace Procreate or Affinity Photo/Designer after using Photoshop and co for ages on Desktops, I get disheartened quite quick the moment I feel too much friction iterating on the same tasks… the way I learn is to try many things many times wrong until I start barely to get it right, selecting/locking/switching layers in procreate felt painful. Clipping layers and masks on Affinity is also painful (compared to photoshop)… if this little keyboard helps doing some of those tasks faster, the cost of the mistake gets diluted big time and motivates to try over and over again. As an example, not the best one but bear with me, imagine if “undo” and “redo” was hidden behind a few menus, taps, gestures and clicks… it would be a no go for me right away or would look for ways to undo faster (i.e. erasing it).

  • I'm so glad i found this video - was looking for a numpad to speed up my workflow, but couldn't find anything that would work well with procreate. this is perfect. For me the tap/touch commands honestly don't work half the time. Switching between brush and pen with the double tap on the pencil doesn't always work. This will save me so much time (from angrily tapping my iPad and Pencil over and over again)

  • I really can not warm up to any gesture related controls on any device. I do not know exactly why but half of the time I do not accomplish what i was attempting or have to go way out of my comfort zone to even perform a gesture. And it still is this way although I have been using my IPad for over 3 years now. A keyboard like that would almost certainly be way more intuitive to me. I will definetly look into getting one for myself

  • My issue with Procreate’s UI is that you can’t change the orientation of the menus and I have torn muscle and tendon problems, so all that reaching around and tapping kills my arm and wrist if I’m having an off day where art and programs refuse to just cooperate. I wish they had a way to make all the buttons on the side because the way I hold it with my other hand I can tap them more easily like a giant game controller 🤣 but since I’m right handed and the tools are only always on the top right I can’t just use my left hand to do all that crap instead of my drawing hand and quick menu has a habit of showing up at all the wrong times. The one they made for Accessibility is completely useless, you can’t customize it or change the orientation from horizontal to vertical and the original buttons you add to it stay rather than switching into it which makes them in the way if you have a problem hitting them, I’m constantly tapping the size and opacity instead of undo/redo and that middle button, which hardly works because you can’t even make that larger either… they need to make things more customizable. I end up not bothering with access options because of all of these issues. The layer select confuses me too. I have no idea why they don’t just make things more visible at a glance, like layer opacity % and what not. There’s a ton of extra space that’s just taking up room if they don’t make use of it. Meh. I wish the controller had arrows for menu navigation and some sort of brail type markers to make it quicker by feel, but that’s not a big deal considering all the useful shortcuts lol

  • Its best for such keyboards to be programmable via an app. The problem is this keyboard is specific for the procreate shortcuts. If this was programable you could then have a button to switch between profiles and use it for any other software and even change what each button does in procreate itself so you could assign the shortcuts you want for the keys you want instead of having a standard layout that was decided by the designer.
