Spec Ops REACT to Team Fortress' Meet the Team

It's finally time for Cameron and Israel to discover the amazing "Meet the Team" shorts from Team Fortress 2, almost 10 years after the last one was published. Israel's already reviewed some of the guns in a previous Total Recoil video, and now he can't wait to get more of this whacky cartoon world. As for Cameron, he has no idea what he's in for.
From 2007's Meet the Heavy to 2012's Meet the Pyro, they're here to check out all nine classes' shorts and find out what the fuss around this game is actually about. Afterward, Cam and Israel spend some time talking about some of their favorite characters, who those characters remind them of in real life, and who they would select for a real-life team.
Let's get to it!

  • 4:20, to be fair Team Fortress 2's history is very weird, New Zealand is an ancient city under water (like Atlantis), Abraham Lincoln invented stairs because everyone kept blowing their legs off trying to rocket jump to the second floor of buildings (he later dies doing the same), Merasmus (an evil wizard that WAS trapped in a castle before the Soldier helped him get out of the castle by destroying the castle with him in it, and who was also roommates with said wizard) even went to become roommates with the Tom Jones, who was then assassinated by Soldier (who broke into his house) and had the murder pinned on Merasmus. Even George Washington was called the inventor of the United States of America and that his major fail was because he couldn't stay invisible (oh right I forgot to mention he invented invisibility through various methods) and that the cloak and dagger was the real invention allowing the user to stay fully invisible. That's why there's a fair chance that what soldier says about Noah, Sun Tzu, and more could be real. Although some of it (like punching through someone, being in the military) is fake. Although it's actually just because Soldier went to Vietnam (by himself later) and then gave himself PTSD by actually just attacking random people.

  • The Medi-gun Medic uses in his video is actually the in-game 'Quick-Fix', a Medi-gun notorious for its utter lack of Ubercharge, or the ability that allows Medic to make his heal target (and himself) temporarily invulnerable. According to the game's developers, the Quick-Fix lost its Ubercharge ability due to the singular usage of it in the video.

  • The Spy is actually an interesting one, as far as usefulness is concerned. Because on one hand, you're right: Spys are often not very useful. They normally cannot handle themselves in a fight due to their low HP and the fact that their main killing tool is made for stealth attacks, so they stay covert for most of the match which means they are also absent from the frontline fighting most of the time. On the other hand, the Spy just has a very powerful toolset. He can go invisible, one-hit any class in the game by backstabbing them with his knife, impersonate other players (which is admittedly not his best tool as the disguises are often not very convincing) and he can shut down any of the engineers contraptions. He also got a revolver which, whilst not a good weapon in prolonged combat, can deal a considerable amount of burst damage. A good spy in the right situation can pick apart an entire enemy team by himself, however for every good spy there's a hundred bad ones and the perfect opportunity often only comes once a match. Additionally, spotting and eliminating spies is a skill that all new players end up learning eventually, as getting one-hit out of nowhere is a bit of a jarring experience.

Pewds have 100 mil subs but only get an average 1-3+ mil views a week. But why isn't his channel dying? It's because if those 1+ million viewers get tired from his content, some viewers from that 100 million will come back. That's what's happening with TF2. It's a huge ass fanbase but it doesn't seem like it because it's always a rotation. A new batch will rise after some batches get tired of the game. If that new batches get tired, another new batches + new players will come. It's just impossible for TF2 to die unless the bot problems become worse that any batches will leave IMMEDIATELY, causing TF2 to actually die for good.

    • Pyros a pretty savvy businessman, able to run a business highly well. Scouts an idiot who can barely read, spy's got his head on straight the most, demoman is actually a pretty nice guy minus his drinking problem and apparently lives with his mom in a self bought mansion and holds down 3 jobs. Medic straight up invented Uber and the medigun, along with most likely being a pretty competent and skilled doctor if the orginal team fortress classic mercs hired him as their medic, the classic heavy is pretty smart and wouldn't just hire some random dumbass who knows how to stitch things together. He's so skilled he managed to bring someone back to life after they were dead for nearly 9 hours. Snipers not the smartest, but I'd say he's got at least a highschool education, and you can't be a professional assassin/sniper and constantly get away with it while also being an idiot. Heavy having a degree in Russian literature has never been stated as cannon, but it's clear that he is a very smart man, with wisdom and good and quick thinking. An example of this is during the interview comics, where he distracts the interviewer by only talking about his gun so the man wouldn't gain any access to knowlwge about his family. Along with finding and breaking into the overseers office, that being pretty impressive in and of itself. So he's not on engines level, he's still pretty damn smart. Like you said, engie has multiple doctorates. In fact, about 11 doctorate's in total. He's the son of another famous inventor and has worked with the Mann family and the overseer for decades, just like his father did. He's more then smart enough to invent the sentry gun, the wrangler, the teleporters and the dispenser, all of which he holds the patents for. Along with that, his father invented the life prolonging machines that the Mann brothers and the overseer use, but engies smart enough to highly and heavily improve on the original design, I'm pretty sure nearly quadrupling it's efficiency when using aulstralium. Soldiers a listened priest in Santa Monica and canonically has lead poisoning and such high mental instability that WW2 era America wouldn't take him in any form of military position. Back then the military would look at a 14 year old and believe the lie that they were 18 and toss him to the military. He can read tho. And is a legal lawyer thanks to the help of his old roommate, a melinuim old wizard. And apparently he's also immortal and also killed Tom Jones.

The first Rainbow Six game released in 1998. There were a *LOT* more between Doom 2 still getting mods, other Quake mods that competed with TF, Quake 2, Unreal, and Half life mods (and TFC which was arguably a HL mod too) before TF2 came out. There's no basis to claim it's the "oldest" and while none of the older ones are still as active as it is, there are several which predate it and still see regular play.

    • Rule #1 of Medic 101 for Dummies: Watch your ass, then help your team. Your team can't always be trusted to save your ass from stabbings.
