We are here on the Columbia River, searching for monster Sturgeon! Kirk, Zach and I are up to bat with Capt. Charles and Mark who is a helpful hand on the boat today. I let Kirk catch his sturgeon first, (Which you will see in the next episode (along with some crawdad traps and the fish hatchery in Oregon) then Zach and I had bets on which rod would go off, left or right (port or starboard) I picked starboard, then we got a BITE & we had a fish on!!! I fought this fish for at least 30 minutes until we got it to the surface. HOLY SMOKES what a RIVER MONSTER! Keep watching to see how this fish tasted and to see what else is in store. Congratulation! Wife and I enjoyed the Sturgeon video. While staying in a cabin on Crooked Lake near Balsam Minnesota we saw two men fishing in a twelve or fourteen foot boat. Just on the other side of the boat was a Sturgeon that was longer than the fishing boat. The men were fishing the shoreline and had no idea what was just under water on the other side of their boat.
Man, awesome fish. You should try the Suwannee River in North Central Fl for the Gulf Sturgeon. Awesome videos.

Hi Kelly. I live in Salem Oregon and you got really lucky being here the week you were. It's gone back to the normal rainy weather for this time of year. One thing you didn't mention about the sturgeon was the size restrictions on what you can keep. You are only allowed to keep fish between 50 and 63 inches. Tough stuff to work hard, catch a beautiful ish and have to let it go. Love you Kelly. I can't wait for the rest of your Oregon trip. Stay safe. ❤🙏

pretty darn cool. I've lived damned near all my life with in 50 miles of Mother Columbia River. She brings us a wealth of fishies. I've seen many an historic photo of old sturgeon fishing. With a team or TWO horses holding lines with railroad ties to haul in the big ones in the late 1800's. Those were the real monsters, 15' plus. ps. I'm not a wealthy man, but ya, Cassanda I wish you the best and I did send you not only cash, but prayers.

Glad you had a great time in Oregon! In the summer I dive the same area that you were fishing to spearfish for carp, and just to get my gills wet. Among the little islands next to the boat ramp I have seen 20-30 sturgeon in a day, including swimming with a 10 footer. Sure, 12' viz is considered a good day, but the underwater topography in that area is amazing.

Well Hell, you were in my back yard! Sturgeon are cool, aren't they? East of the mountains you were seeing mule deer. Gotta come over to the wet side to see blacktail. There are hybrids in the mountains we call "bench bucks". Muley/blacktail cross. Excited to see your turkey hunting adventure, too! It's always fun to see people enjoying what we have here.

The best is double cold smoked sturgeon. They are oily by nature so twice smoked is needed but.....divine when smoked about 9 days total (thick pieces)!!

Awesome catch Kelly! I was fortunate to fish there last May and caught 6 small ones and 2 monsters over a 2 day period. We certainly don't have them on the East Coast of Fla. lol The scenery was incredible and fishing on the Snake River was amazing. I thought they would pull like our Goliaths but the fight was entirely different. Again well done. Fish of a lifetime.

Ahh you in my neck of the woods, I caught my biggest at the Bonnevillle dam, about 9’ 6”. The best way to eat them is smoked, but I consider them a catch and release only fish, don’t like them to eat, but I’ve been spoiled with fresh salmon and fresh trout up here in the PNW.
That sturgeon, we call that fish here janitor fish.
You're in my neck of the woods. I love sturgeon fishing. Feels like dragging a Volkswagen off the bottom of the river! Also my Mom's side of the family was raised in The Dalles. I've spent alot of time there. Hope ya enjoy Oregon whole you're here!
