    • He would trick members into drinking the flavoraid and then tell them they had 45 minutes to live to see their reaction. He then announced that he had a nuclear weapon that was synchronized to detonate at the end of the 45 minutes. I’m amazed that so many people stuck around for Jonestown because he was doing this in California way before Guyana.

  • Just to keep things productive (and maybe shine a little ray of light on this horrible story), there were about EIGHTY people who survived the Jonestown massacre, one way or the other. While some 36 of them have died in the years since, the many other survivors have been trying to get the mass media to tell their stories all this time. Alas, the media only seems to want to talk about Jim Jones, himself, effectively giving that naricssist free publicity even after his death. But since your coverage here already seems to be moving a bit away from that direction (thank you), talking to these people might be a good follow-up to this video, somewhere down the line. Welcome to the family, ladies; it's good to have you.

    • They missed alot. They didn't mention the regular death drills. How he'd have sex with men. His fake assassinations. His fake faith healing. His pet monkey who killed it's self. The fact that people started trying to leave and that's what pushed him over the edge to begin his final solution. And that's just the top of my head. It's buzzfeed so I don't expect that much from them. This was decent and they talked about the racial aspects which almost never get mentioned so I'll give them a pass.

He devoted his life to take this Escuela de Yoga de Buenos Aires down for over 30 years and the most painful thing in this story is that his whole family is still in it. Recently there were arrests made and even Vice made an article about it. It is a David and Goliath fight for over 30 years where he helped other victims from these cults and is fighting for an anti cult law to protect people and help rehabilitate survivors.

  • This was really nice, actually enjoyed it. I hope y'all wi do the Davidians too and how the gov messed that whole situation up and the Rajneesh movement. Also everyone still whining about R&S, yall know you're not forced to watch content on Buzzfeed right? They have their own channel now called watcher. Go there if you miss them so much.

Crying for these victims is important and drives home how horrible these acts were. We should feel SOMETHING over content and history like this. Thank you!

  • I was 13 years old when the mass suicide/murders took place in Jonestown on November 18, 1978. This has intrigued me since then and it still intrigues me now. It amazes me how one man can convince so many others to follow him even to the point of harsh punishment for them, the sacrificing of all their income and all their properties, and eventually to their deaths. When I see videos of how things went down in Jonestown and the stories the survivors shared of their experiences, I learn something new each time. May the Lord continue to be with families of the victims who lost loved ones on that horrible day and the survivors who are still living today. I know there is not a day that goes by that these survivors don't think of that horrible day on November 18, 1978.

Some crashed of a cliff, some were murdered a few years later “no trace” Paula Addams and her family who survived Jonestown were all murdered like 5-6 years later

  • It just feels like black people thought that this man was some sort of savior for black folks because of all that he had "Given" they probably thought "Finally someone understands what we have gone through and now we can begin a healing process." Just for them to end up leaving their families to go to some place worse. What stood out to me is how you guys referred to it as a "Plantation" and it resonated with me because it sounded and even looked like a plantation. It was almost like the stories that the captains would tell the slaves on the boat when they were on their way to America. Hearing him talk to Christine sounded like an awful mother belittling their child because they think they knew better because they are "Older" or "Wiser", it shows how he knows that he brainwashed them.

    • What you read about Jonestown was U.S. government propaganda. Jim Jones was practically raised in the KKK. The whites were allowed to come and go in and out of the camp anytime they wanted, while the blacks were held captive inside the camp. Jones followers were murdered after Congressman Leo Ryan threatened to expose Jones for trying to operate a U.S. intelligence agency-funded mind-controlled slave labor camp which is what Jonestown really was. Jones himself was killed before it even happened. The victims were either murdered by some type of poison injected in the back(evident by all the bent needles found all around the camp) below their shoulder blades, shot, stabbed, or strangled. Those people never took any cyanide and the pathology reports, issued by Dr. Cyril L. Mootoo, never supported it. Who murdered them?....The C.I.A.-trained Guyanese police forces, trained by Dan Mitrione, a close friend of Jones who was a U.S. government official in Latin America who trained local police in the use of torture along with British Black Watch troops, around 200 of them, who were waiting in the woods with serrated knives to kill the ones that tried to escape. The U.S. Army reported a series of lies of how they 'died' which took six days. Why did it take six days? That's how long it took to drag all the bodies, around 900 people, into position and lay them face-down in neat rows. In some of the photos, you can see the drag marks. Leo Ryan was gunned down at the Kaituma Airport strip by mind-controlled Guyanese defense forces, trained by Dan Mitrione, who was also a close childhood friend of Jones.

  • What I always found striking about Jonestown is that most of the documentaries initially set up Jim Jones as the archetypal one-dimensional villain who did the evil do by himself. And by the end of the documentary, the documentary makers just an off-hand mention Jim Jones's inner circle and the guard force, without elaboration. They always remain a faceless force in these tales. I'm always wondering why people don't talk more about their role. Sure, Jim Jones was the ultimate authority in this atrocity, but he couldn't have pulled it off without these people. They 100% shared Jones's delusion and we should hear their tales.
