  • When I boxed back in the early 2000's I did a Floyd "seminar" where his uncle did most of the teaching (It was fucking expensive) I learned how to truly pick my shots. You throw your percentage of power based on your percentage of accuracy and they showed you how to set that up but basically you should almost never throw 100% because you usually can't get 100% accuracy but if you line it up you throw like 65% accuracy with 65% power your going to do damage, once your accuracy starts rising you raise your power percent too. It was a science and I won my next 10 amateur fights using that method then I stopped due to injuries

      @GOSUmartialarts@GOSUmartialarts2 жыл бұрын
    • @@GOSUmartialarts The fact that Floyd had late nights, & partied without drinking, doing drugs or slacking in his training is proof he was MORE disciplined because he never let his environment influence him negatively, he would run after leaving the club at 3am… And scandals have nothing to do with his discipline

      @Logic7@Logic72 жыл бұрын
    • @@Logic7 How could he be more disciplined by having more bad habits (late nights, partying, women, spending sprees) and scandals (domestic violence, bodyguards jumping pple) and a shorter career? That doesn't make sense to me.

      @GOSUmartialarts@GOSUmartialarts2 жыл бұрын
    • @@GOSUmartialarts You are making a bunch of side issues that have nothing to do with his discipline. You don’t even realize the reason he would go to clubs even though he didn’t drink or smoke was because he literally lived boxing, his entire career he lives like an owl where he slept mostly during the early day time and woke up in the evening because he wanted to train his body to be at its maximum potential during night time being that every major boxing match usually happens at night time and that’s why it didn’t matter if he went to a club for a little bit to visit friends at night because that’s not him staying up later partying, that was him just being up during normal hours and that’s why he could run home a few miles from the club. It’s honestly not even comparable in boxing who was the most disciplined, Floyd surpasses bhop and everyone else by a wide margin. I also don’t understand what his bodyguards protecting him or fighting people to protect him have anything at all to do with discipline? Especially when he was one of the most hated boxers by many casuals. I’m also confused as to what “shopping or spending sprees” has anything at all to do with his boxing discipline? Lol you are reaching so much it’s beyond obvious.

      @James_Edward59@James_Edward592 жыл бұрын
    • @@James_Edward59 Who had the longer career? You can look at records and all, but how many fighters had Floyd fought in their prime, at their ideal weight, and on the p4p list? I bet you can't name me more than one. Pac fought 5-6, Bhop fought 5-7, and Floyd fought 1 and chased weak title holders. And Bhop had a longer career bc he took better care of his body and held the middleweight record of 20 title defenses. After the age of 40 he moved up 2 weight classes and still beat the best guys for another 6-7 years (Pavlik, Winky Wright, Cloud, Shuminev, Tarver, etc.). Any disciplined boxer should make their health and training number one. Floyd ate fast food and partied after fights until recently. Bhop never had a poor diet. That's why he fought until age 50.

  • I mentioned many years ago to anyone who would listen past their hatred that Floyd's odd training times was key to him out lasting his opponents. His body responded better than his opponents not just because he ran, all fighters run but the larger majority of them don't run/train at such odd hours after sun down. This made his body perform better than his opponents during fight night, which are times that his opponents were used to being in bed sleeping. Even when other fighters claimed they trained harder than they ever had in their life, they still didn't have the stamina of Floyd.

  • As a huge boxing fan and follower and student, also as a big Mayweather Jr fan with a good amount of knowledge on him, this video did a great job and one of the most knowledgeable videos I’ve seen yet on him about why he is who he is and why he separates himself from the rest. I would of also added that he ever drank or smoked either though towards the end when talking about his diet. Other than that, there’s nothing else of importance I would have added to this video. Zab mentioned he would have 15-20 sparring partners lined up but what he would do is spar with a partner for 2-3 rounds with hardly any break in between and sometimes for longer than 3 minutes and keep changing partners every 2-3 rounds so that the partners were always fresh and that’s also what helped him with his endurance.

  • Floyd reminds me of bruce lee... in that he obsessed with training as if it was life or death. He was not going to let his opponent be in better shape than him ever. Many boxers lose due to who tires first. Floyd was determined to eliminate that possibility. Bruce used to say that every time you fight it could mean life or death, so you have to train as if your life depends on it. And in pro boxing that can be very much a reality.

  • The padwork is all about positioning. It teaches all the main positions and ways to transition your head slots without overcommiting. I don't personally use it but it's all about how you interact with your opponents centerline. Slips, pulls, ducking under, rolling and pivoting etc. There's much great stuff in one drill. Problem is that a lot of coaches teach it completely wrong.

    • It depends, like usually in gyms I’ve boxed you will get trainer shout at you when to go hard. But doing it by yourself…you could set a timer to go off every 20 secs. Or you can count your light punches up to 20 then go hard for 4-6 punches for example.

  • You spent the whole video talking about how much he works out throughout the day but then find the fact that he eats whatever he wants "unbelievable" (not an actual quote but basically your stance). How is that so hard to believe? The guy spent thousands of calories working out a day, he can certainly indulge. I used to work out 5 hours throughout the day in the military and would eat whatever I wanted and still maintained weight. Look at Michael Phelps talk about eating 10 pancakes a day in the morning for breakfast. These are elite athletes who train more than us mere mortals can imagine...they can probably get away with eating whatever they want.
