Bald King | Kenny DeForest | Stand Up Comedy

This is the last recorded set of Kenny’s before he was tragically taken from us in a cycling accident this past December. Kenny was a prolific talent best known for his appearances on Comedy Central, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Late Show with James Corden, HBO’s Crashing, and TruTV’s Friends of the People. Kenny’s two stand up specials ‘B.A.D Dreams’ and ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am?’ both debuted at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts and have gone on to receive critical praise. Recently, The New York Times released a posthumous review of ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am?’ lauding Kenny’s ability to tell a story that can be both funny as well as ‘provide solace and inspiration and even hope’.
Kenny was a truly generous person who’s crackling energy had the power to lift and inspire. He devoted his life to this artform and never stopped pushing the limits of his own creativity. More importantly, and evidenced in his body of work, Kenny never stopped trying to improve himself. He was an instant friend to any who met him and his absence will forever be felt in this community and in all the people he reached with his humor and vulnerability.
Everything you’ve read so far was written by a friend because while Kenny was a gifted comedian he was really awful at writing his own biography. However, here’s one piece of his actual bio that was definitely wrong for the television executives he sent it too, but finally has an appropriate home here with Don’t Tell:
‘…[Kenny’s] core belief is that no matter how much we disagree, beneath it all, when we stop taking ourselves too seriously to laugh at ourselves, and we put our phones down, we are just a bunch of people doing the best we can with the tools we have. Or, whatever.’
Enjoy this set and please check out rest of his work.

  • Kenny drove me to the first open mic I ever did in Chicago, when I was still a very new and not very good comic. I was homeless, a complete stranger, a little strung out, and Kenny was nothing but kind and warm and I owe him more than I could ever put into words for being an inspiration and enabler to me in the thing I love more than anything in this world. The fact that people mention his immense, unwavering kindness as often as his world-class talent and skill as a comic really speaks to how good of a dude he was, and he'll be greatly missed. Love you, buddy

    • You should absolutely check out his Comedy Central set on KZhead and his two self released full specials on KZhead as well (they’re in my stand up playlist) he has really great analogies for what therapy is like, and what anxiety feels like, and how athletes interact with the world. He has a way of describing things with empathy and levity that makes it easier to relate to people you maybe wouldn’t have before. This set is so good, but you’d do yourself a disservice if you didn’t seek out and consume the rest of his oeuvre, at least his short CC set.

  • I'm a woman and I've always given importance to personality as the top priority. Good conversation, intelligence, common sense, ambition, etc. But physical attraction also exists. So, I also have to admit I used to specifically care about dating a guy who was losing his hair, because it's, in general, a sign of aging, a.k.a, "the grim reaper's hourglass". I didn't hate it per se since it's not something men can magically control or afford. Now in my early thirties, I don't care. Why? Not because I'm at the age of dating someone around my age or older, but I thought to myself that if it were ME, I wouldn't want people to dislike me just for losing my hair, something I wouldn't be able to control. Just that 1 thought one day and for those two seconds was enough to make me not care about it.
