In this video, I will show full preservation of the German Helmet M40 size 64 from the World War II. This helmet has been in the ground for 77 years. As a result of the restoration, the original paint and the color of the helmet were preserved.

Thanks for viewing!
I had always heard that the original German helmet decals were tough, but the fact that this Luftwaffe decal stayed on through all those years of moisture and rusting is amazing!
I was thinking the same thing. I was like " Damn, And that decal is still on there?"
@@BadRonald1 and he's ruining history by restoring it, do not praise this man.
Definitely worth a bit
Das gut, mein Freund
If anyone wants to know what a tough restoration looks like. Here it is. Absolute stunning job.
if anyone wants to see a proper helmet restoration, here it is kzhead.info/sun/fcxqaMWBjp58ep8/bejne.html
Always happy to see a preservation instead of a full restoration. Great job!
This man knows what he is doing! Love it!
Just found this …….Wow!, bringing out the authenticity is so much more effective than a complete “like new” restoration. Excellent job.
Just watched this and the other video of the restored helmet you welded from two parts. I’ll start by saying you’re far better at this than me! I have attempted with varying degrees of success to preserve different things over the years. I was wondering if you had ever used ospho, and your opinion of it. I used it on a large enamel petrol sign with many spots of rust, and it did a beautiful job of turning the rust into black primer, while leaving the enamel intact. Also used it on an old wheel barrow and it preserved the paint while neutralizing the rust. Only suggestion I might dare offer you on this helmet is the part where you used the pick to remove the heavy chunks of rust. I’m thinking perhaps a small hammer and a chisel might better direct the force where it is desired, but I don’t discount the idea that you may have considered this and have a reason not to use that method. Amazing work you do and I enjoy watching. Thanks for producing these clips.
Very sympathetic preservation job. I thought that you might have gone for a full restoration but in my opinion, what you have done is better.
What a beautiful job, this us absolutely amazing and saving a piece of history albeit a horrible reminder of terrible times.
Great technique. I prefer preservation over restoration!!
I was amazed to see that much of the paint remaining! It looked as though the entire helmet was covered in rust. Great restoration job!
The paint and decal surviving under THAT much rust was indeed unbelievable. I don't believe it for one. Something very fishy here, starting with the orange colour of the rust - it's _new_ rust. Why is that do you think!

I enjoyed watching you restore this historical helmet. You saved it.... Good job indeed.......
Great job. I'm happy to see it wasn't sandblasted, filled with body filler and repainted.
Incredible job with the restoration. The fact that most of the surface remaining intact after all of this time is astounding. Those old helmets were definitely built to last! I wonder if there was a name inscribed somewhere? I absolute love how you handled this restoration with extra care and delicacy. I imagine this would be a potential museum piece somewhere? :)

@@Impuesto. don't worry. Just some angsty Soviet fanboy
they never inscribed their names into the helmet they only would, paint and chalk their names on the helmets in either white, black or red I've heard
@@Impuesto. Google Tranlator.. The soldier was lucky that he did not have a hole in our bullet. Don't visit us again!
Very well done. Amazed that you managed to preserve the original decal!
Why Paraloid B72 on the metal strip but candle wax on the helmet? And why did you change from a solution of micro-crystalline wax to candlewax? I have been reading about conservation of metals and would like to know your (practical) opinion. Thank you for the videos.
Thank you for conserving rather than restoring that artifact.
Thanks for not sandblasting the surface. Not new but well used in it time. Great job
A true preservation, some replace the helmet with filler and paint, destroying the authenticity, this is very well done.
I enjoyed this. The person doing this restoration looked like they knew what they were doing. So many of these KZhead restoration videos are done in a ham-fisted way, where they do more harm than good to the artifact. Excellent work!
Not many veterans left from ww2 this helmet tells stories about what happened in ww2. Beautifully preserved.
As a museum professional I would suggest that what you did was a nice job of “restoring” the helmet. “Preservation” is keeping the patina of an artifact with very little intervention. “Conservation” is maintaining the original found condition with additional steps to prevent further deterioration.
Got the same luftwaffe helmet M40, nice to see someone do the totally same :D
Its very respective work involving the removing of rust & pitting problems i called it valuable especially when coming to the particularly point to preserved one of the best helmets of W W 2 .which in fact gave very satisfactory all around complete head protection but what i enjoy most is the techniques used & expressed in order to preserved it ...
Fantastic work, so glad you didn't sand blast it and paint with Rustoleum!
Just found your channel I love world war relics being restored the right way I go metal detecting and I've got tonnes and tonnes of bags full of stuff going back to early civilization they just keep mounting up been detecting for 35 years that's probably why..SUBBED 👍
Terrific job freezing it in time in the condition it SHOULD be in by this age. 👍 Looks terrific.
Back in the early 60s my dad went to a antique store in Oregon and bought a WW2 German dagger knife. It had the name Schneider engraved above the handle and a swastica above the name. It came with a sheath too. He also bought a German flag that was rittled with bullet holes. I have no idea what he did with this stuff but this helmet we just watched brought back some memories.
Awsome job.Love your work.
Growing up I had a friend who's father brought one home with him from " the war". I hope he still has it.
at first i thought you were going to strip every last atom of rust, fill all pits with metal or bondo, paint it factory new. Excellent work. I love these artisan channels. Amazing how much is left of eagle. Thanks for the upload
The use of the heat gun and candle wax was inspired!! Thanks for the video
As close to perfect as you can get awesome job 👍
Preserving and restoring is trusted to your hands!!!
As soon as I saw the gram scale come out I knew this was gonna be good. Great job my friend and a grim reminder of a horrible time.
Nice. Love history restorations
I like a guy that keeps his helmet clean.
Amazing work, well done !!
Well done! Looks amazing.
I didn't expect such a good result too.
@WWII Tube Restoration me too! The luftwaffe M40 helmet looks very nice. You did a good job getting rid of the rust and revealing the original blue paint and decal!
Did you put the helmet in the oven to fully dry it of moisture it absorved after the last bath with oxalic acid?

Soviets weren't much better, and regardless it's still a neat piece of history
Nicely done. It is so much better to try and retain the original if possible. Here is a tip for rust removal, 10:1 ratio of water and molasses, just let it soak for a week or so, it is gentle on the metal
I love watching your videos. Peaceful Quite and no one droning on. Keep up the good work.👍
Lovely job
You did a Nice job preserving it It looks stunning 😁👍🏻
Thanks for this video! You are restoring beautifully! Congratulations! I have a question. What is the spray you use to brush down the sticker? Any fixer? Thank you in advance for your answer! Greetings: from Serbia.
Amazing Restoration 👍👍
Wow a very nice cleaning job. On the actual German helmet. 😂
Great job as always!
Thank you so much!
Those knights from the middle ages would heat up their armor and helmets. They would liberally apply beeswax wax to the raw steel that acted as a preservative and make the surface slippery thus allowing glancing blows to not penetrate. Great video
Good job, and nice helmet 👍

Ficou top demais 👏👏👏👏. Saudações do Brasil. From Brazil.
Great work 👏
Are there ways to remove the wax to take another acid bath? I already coated the helmet in wax but realized it would need a new acid wash
Have you ever done a helmet that has paint covering the original paint and decals?
Hello, really a very, very excellent job. I am also starting my restoration of my Luftwaffe helmets and wanted to ask if you can give me a tip which matt lacquer you use for the emblem? Manufacturer or something? Best regards from Germany :-)
Uh oh... a proud german
@@lightfox11 Nothing wrong with that.
I Would use A sponge liner for the inside ..That metal headrest looks rough..

Hello and congratulations on your fantastic work! Can I ask you what is the spray you sprayed in the lid to give it on the decal at minute 4.20 and what is the green liquid inside the long neck bottle at minute 5.40? Thank you, I would love to learn from your tricks thanks, a greeting. Mike
Hello. 4.20 - Matt lacquer 5.40 - Toilet cleanser with hydrochloric acid

Magnificent souvenir you restored impressive job restoring that piece of history.
Hi, you did a fantastic job. There is a reason, because you colose on top, the box with water and oxalic? After oxalic, did you put the helmet in water + baking soda, or not? Thanks in advance. Ivano
Achtung! Good morning to you too Shultz.
That's a fairly decent result .
Stick it in a 3 gallon bucket of evaporust, worked great on my resto.
awesome job!!
I saw an old as helmet at an estate auction, almost this rusty , it had ss on one side, the other side was bare, it sold for $300. A plain iron cross went for $80
Hm
As time goes this stuff gets harder to find.
Sergeant Schultz would be happy you found his helmet
I came here from tiktok and I'm so glad I did! 😊 this is the most soothing video I've ever seen 😍 Thank you
Nice restoration work from a molecular standpoint, even though I find anything about Nazis to be distasteful!
that is extremely impressive work
Fantastic restoration...
Saludos desde Guadalajara Jalisco México 😎👍
You are amazing!
Like magic..and the old veteran shine again..!
GREAT JOB. Greetings FROM GERMANY.
I don’t know exactly what year but I can tell you that it is a early war helmet due to the fact that the edge of the helmet is rolled over. By the later stage of the war of the helmets were just simply left rough cut around the edge.
INCREDIBLE HELMET..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗😑
Yeah. I'm surprised at the end result, too.
Do you take project helmets from people and fix them up? Or do you only do personal restorations?
I would have thought the severity of the rust had compromised the integrity of the helmet to the point where it had become so brittle as to just fall apart. If only tat helmet could talk, I bet it would have quite the story to tell.
That’s a hard restoration
Nice preservation
Very well done! I,ve nerver restored a Helmer befor but havet restored a lot of bicycles etc and in the final stage when you used sandpapper i'd use Steel wool and solution, if You're ever going to reapply candlewax and want to remove the last bits of rust i highly suggest it, it can smear the paint tho bit so van sandpapper anyway, again, really Good job!
The video (14.40) shows a half of a personal medallion. Half means that the non-commissioned officer broke the medallion in half after the death of a soldier. He took half with him for reporting, and inserted the other half into the teeth of the deceased (the skull is the least susceptible to decomposition). Usually, when such medallions are found, it is customary to give them to German veteran organizations with an indication of the place of discovery, so that they inform their relatives that the place of death of their relative has been found. At least this is standard practice for historical search clubs.
Fine restoration through chemistry….and elbow grease.👍🏼
Congratulations on the achieved effect.
I know very little about restoration BUT I'd be very curious to know what electrolysis could have done in this case. Nothing was going to save the eagle but electrolysis would have gotten ALL of the rust.
Dam that’s a old as helmet good job bringing it back to life.
NICE JOB Sir.👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🤗
Nice job conserving the item. I am glad to see it not restored.
That original decal is still there worth quite a bit of money.
Good job .Thanks
Thanks bro!
I've just cleaned a M40 helmet in Oxalic acid and there seems to be a lot of black paint work showing (especially when it's wet). Under the liner, where that was you can see it the best. Would this have been SS ? Still really rusty, and no sign of any decal...
Nice job, looks great
