  • Danai is such a good writer. She wrote real dialogue. She wrote the arguments the way that couples fight it often is circular with ebbs and flows of the conflict. By the end of the episode they looked younger with the heaviness erased from their faces. Hopefully they live to see their children again and possibly everyone reunites by the end.

  • The fact that Rick has been with the CRM for close to a decade is nuts. I don’t think people understand or even know that he was only with the original group (from the pilot until the bridge) for 4-5 years. He’s known the CRM way of life for longer than the one he had with Michonne and his own daughter!! He’s been brainwashed into this way of living. The writing and storytelling in the show is insane, I really hope this isn’t just a mini series as previously stated. This is so much bigger than six episodes.

    @Stephenshorse@StephenshorseАй бұрын
    • I’m still confused about the timeline tbh, maybe someone can shed light on some things… So the beginning episode states “5 years after the bridge” right, following Rick’s failed escape. How many years pass when the episode ends and Okafore blows up? I strongly believe it’s just a year after but I also feel off, maybe 2 years? So going back to the main show, I believe that after the bridge, when older Judith is revealed, is about 6 years. And Michonne is still there until the end of the whispers arc, which last I don’t know, a few weeks or months?? So after michonne leaves for Rick, she spends a year healing from the gas attack but how many years did she spend looking for Rick, before she meets Nat and friends?? lol

      @PhifeZulu@PhifeZuluАй бұрын
    • @@PhifeZulu They've made a few mistakes with the timeline. Episode 9x5 was supposed to be a 6 year time jump at the end, yet it tells us that Michonne meets Nat 6 years after the bridge. In season 9 part 2, they skipped ahead a year, maybe a little less, because of winter. I'll give Michonne a few weeks to a few months in between leaving and finding Nat. So in reality, it should've been about 7 years in between the bridge and Michonne meeting Nat. And then, Nat and Michonne spend another year locked up in that mall recovering from the gas. So that's around 2 years in between Michonne leaving in 10x13, and Michonne finding Rick in this show. That would make it about 8 years after the bridge. So in my mind, they're off by around 1-2 years total in their timeline. They kind of fixed it by saying RJ was 8, but they did make a mistake by telling us that Nat and Michonne met 6 years after the bridge. It's more like 7-8 years, give or take a few months. It's extremely nitpicky lol, but still was noticeable.

  • I think what made this epsiode so special, was the fact that we almost disliked Rick for the very first time. He had a chance to leave when he saw the helicopter and continued to refuse while Michone was just pleading with him. To see how broken Rick was after being there for that long (almost as long from the pilot episode to his departhcher on the regular show), and for them to tie in Carl to why he was so broken was absolutly beautiful writing. I also love the parallels between this Rick and his Grandpa he told the story about. Rick really has become "the walking dead". The acting between Danai and Andrew was incredible and I can't wait to see the final two episodes of the season.

  • The only way to get through to someone who's been broken by the trauma of emotional loss is to love them deeply and to battle through their fear of loss with them and show them that life and love are worth living for, even when they bring us pain. Michonne was the only person who could get through to Rick and she freaking did. Yes, she gave up for a minute there, but when Rick came after her and made it clear he would never leave her to die under that chandelier, that's when Michonne knew she had to get through to Rick and would. I adore the symbology of a chandelier being the moment of truth for Rick, as the name of the actor who portrayed Carl is Chandler Riggs. Utilizing a chandelier to show Michonne the truth was a stroke of genius. Danai Gurira is a masterful writer.

    • @@LadyAstarionAncunin -- Yes. 😄 Dinai wrote in perfect moments of levity, so we could have moments to chuckle. The roomba and Rick being insulted by Michonne calling him,, "Commando," them picking at each other over who had the walker kill in the hallway, them making out in the elevator after Rick kicking the walker out, as well as them having to switch in the truck because a one-handed person would struggle to drive a stick shift. Those moments never took away from the episode. They perfectly enhanced it. The pathos of the roomba still working away, while the building was collapsing was unexpectedly bittersweet.

  • People need to understand that rick was gone for the better part of 8 years, he only knew the group from alexandria/michonne for almost 4 years. He was gone for nearly twice the amount of time that he knew they existed. How many people in GOOD circumstances can make a long distance relationship work? Could you stay with someone if they were sentenced to 10 years on prison? • Exceptional writing and acting from Danai and Andy. It was brutal but I appreciated how long it took Michonne to convince Rick to open up, to keep on fighting for him despite how desperately he closed himself off to ensure her safety. Only when she told him he was hurting her with the back and forth that he realised the harm he was truly causing. Even outside of the dialogue, the multiple shots of them killing walkers when they were at odds with one another compared to that glorious one shot once they'd found their mojo again, the building only falling once they'd figured their shit out, even when they're making love when Rick has something of a panic attack, dude can't even believe his own eyes having the love of his life with him again, so Michonne takes his hand and places it over her heart. One of the best episodes of TWD in a loooooooong time.

  • Michonne: "you have a family!" Rick: *Okafore* 💔 So insane, just like you said. Man, the arguing and the dynamics of how this whole episode played out was exactly like I would expect them to argue. I hate seeing Rick so brainwashed and terrified of the CRM, Jadis, Beale, the whole thing. He just doesn't want to risk anything period because of what he's witnessed himself firsthand. The fact that he forgot what Carl looked like and Michonne got him that updated photo of him from the phone guy in the crm! That was the breaking point when she pulled out that phone.

  • The whole section of the convo from Rick about worrying he won’t be able to figure out out to die again, brought me back to 5x10 in the barn when we were at our lowest & Rick was telling the story about his grandfather and said: “…Every day he woke up and told himself ‘rest in peace now get up and go to war’. And then, after a few years of pretending he was dead, he made it out alive. And that’s the trick of it I think. We do what we need to do and then we get to live. But no matter what we find in DC I know we’ll be OK. Because this is how we survive, we tell ourselves that WE are The Walking Dead”

  • Rick is experiencing a severe trauma response. He's trauma bonded to the CRM, conditioned by threats and fear. Deep down he knows that everything Michonne is saying is true. He knows that them destroying the helicopter is their way out, but he's terrified. It's not about him not wanting to go, or thinking it's up to him to change the CRM. He's trapped by fear. And Michonne's not having it. Also, I'm worried that Jadis is gonna think Rick or Michonne (or both) hijacked the chopper and crashed it to fake their deaths and get away. I feel like if there's another season, and they make it back to ASZ, she'll show up looking for them. At some point Michonne's gonna kill her so hard.

  • This episode was perfect, Rick was really broken and I feel like a part of him dies when he is away from Michonne. She is a such a strong woman and she was able to keep her faith for so long, I admire her strength. I feel like Jadis is not gonna stop looking for them anyway, but I hope they’re able to ☠️ her soon.

  • What a fucking episode. Danai did great writing it and Andy put out an Emmy worthy performance. No way can they wrap it in 2 episodes. I bet we get an announcement for a season 2 after amc sees how great the ratings and viewer ratings are. They haven't had a show this good since Better Call Saul ended. I really hope Morgan shows up as a post credit scene in the finale.. They have showed some Morgan easter eggs so I wouldn't be surprised. I need that. Also Someone said this about Morgan potentially returning "Maybe it's Morgan, and it's BEFORE he gets to Alexandria to see Carol. He helps rick/michonne but they tell him to go back to alexandria and tell everyone they're alive. Either that or he sees Carol, then goes after to look for Michonne." I'd love this

  • Absolutely one of the best written and well acted episodes in the TWDU & television period. All the awards for Danai's writing & acting and for Andy's brilliant performance. Danai said at the NY premiere that she wanted to write an episode that was filled with gravitas to showcase Andy's acting and she definitely delivered.

  • Andy deserves an Emmy...Danai deserves an Emmy. I can say that when I watched TWD, I never really felt the chemistry between Rick and Michonne...it always seems a bit lacking. But The Ones Who Live has changed all of that for me. The chemistry and love shared between Rick and Michonne is so palpable thanks to both Andy and Michonne's depth of acting (plus you can tell they both "love" and respect each other as people and friends in real life).

  • I think if they merge everyone back together again, instead of bring back The Walking Dead main series, they can do 6-10 episode mini series with major events with everyone there. That way they can boost the per episode budgets and also give all the actors the ability to do other projects or not burn everyone out on the old process. Also having mini-series with one really good story arc with great writing will be the best way to keep interest in the general audience.

Judith was 5 1/2 almost 6 when Rick was "taken off' in season 9 she would be almost 15 now. Carl was age 10 almost 11 was he was shot by Otis in season 2.

  • Danai Gurira showed people who didn’t know that she’s a multiple awards winning and agony nominated playwright that she’s more than just an accomplished actor. She wrote ATT out of this episode and gave us ALLLLLL the colours in a marriage of not just two bodies, but also two Souls.A d I am going to be forever grateful that a Black woman wrote this because Michonne isn’t being his mother or his Emotional Mule. She, too gave up and sacrificed. Danai better get 2 or 3 Emmys. Andrew better get a couple as well. Re: a 2nd season? Andy left the show for reasons, as did Danai. These 6 episodes are their Love Story. If there’s someone else’s story needs telling , they will be the next The Ones Who Live. Rick and Michonne’s Love Story was the raison d’etre of the first season. Sort of like a True Detectives type of series. With walkers.

  • So I really appreciate that Danai didn't write in the obvious thing that she believed Michonne expected would bring Rich back. We all thought soon as he heard about RJ that he'd snap back into true Rick Grimes form. But instead Danai brilliantly writes in Michonne excavating the thing that started Rick's slowly dying inside having to do with Carl. What a lovely way to bring Carl back into this story because their family in many ways started with Carl! It wasn't the expected moment we all thought it would be. To me, it was so much better and beautifully done. So many tears fell from my eyes! Wow. Well done Danai! 👏

They are truly becoming Actor/Actress Titans. Can’t wait to see how all of these shows intertwine and finish out. The Walking Dead and it’s series is basically my best friend haha. Starting at the early comics and then watching the show through high school/college into adulthood some of these characters truly feel like family it’s incredibly impactful. Love this series. Loved that y’all finally got the SOA wrap up posted that is an all time great too. Love both of y’all for the constant entertainment, insightful inputs, and belly-crampin’ laughs!
